That's a very simple but affective little tool, well done!...Bill
Thanks, Bill!
Thanks 😊. Very. Nice ☺️. Too know. Thank. U. Brother 😁. Lee
Yes, please do make more tutorials. I enjoy seeing how each restoration artist does their work.
Thanks! Any item you would like to see explained?
@@MatchboxRestoration I'd like to see any/all of your techniques and an explanation why you proceed that way.
Thank you for sharing your tips, techniques and knowledge. I would like to see more of these informative videos.
You're welcome, Paul. Any subject you would like to see explained in more detail?
Look s easy and simple
Thank you
Oh thank you so much, that’s a great tip. Take care as always from South Africa
You’re welcome! Greets!
Very good....virtually identical to what I use apart from the size of the coach bolt head. I use a smaller headed bolt as I find the coach bolt too large if the model has mud guards (fenders). Personal choice. My version falls half way between Martys set up and yours. I also have a slightly larger version for Dinkys as they have larger diameter axles. Really well explained tutorial....I'm sure that other restorers starting out will find it very useful. 👍
True, the shape of the bolts I use aren't that suitable to get in tight spots. I might need to have another one specifically for those hard to reach areas. Glad you like it!
@@MatchboxRestoration baremetalHW uses a lathe....same principle but horizontal rather than vertical...looks a bit weird but it works. This is better though IMHO.
Indeed, many good ideas we can only benefit from. Each will decide what works best for him/her.
Greetings and salutations from Pico Rivera California! I really enjoyed your tutorial and I would hope that you would do more thank you again for your great work.
Thank you! Any subject you would like to see explained in detail?
@@MatchboxRestoration your next tutorial should be about painting. For example kinds of paint that you use for your Restorations and airbrush techniques that are best for a successful restoration. I would love to support your work using Patron could you give me some information about that. Your videos are highly informational and educational you have reached 5K subscribers in such a short time that tells me a lot about your dedication and your professionalism to these Restorations that I really appreciate and so do your fans soon and very soon it will reach 10K and you richly deserve every good thing for your hard work again thanks.
Easy and fast, great,,,,,
That's the way 😉
dank je wel hoor eindelijk is info dat ik begrijp dank je wel voor deze geweldige video
Graag gedaan! Veel plezier ermee!
Is this working with a normal drill? I don't have this standing drill..
It can work, but it's a lot harder to keep the drill in place while applying pressure.
I've tried this today but the axle just deforms the hole in the nail. I can't find anything strong enough to create the domed end.
Great tutorial video. Thank you. But I dont have a drill press tool :-(
BRILLIANT! I shall have to make one! There are other uses, besides Matchbox axles, for a riveter like this.
Good luck! 😉👍
Nice quick video, right to the point. I'm just curious if using a carriage bolt instead of a nail has ever interfered with the body or wheel wells of the diecast itself?
It does sometimes. I’ll need to search for another one that is a bit narrower.
Maybe you can use a file while turning it in the drill press to reduce the diameter.
I am just doing an AA motorcylcle set of wheels using this process.. Many Thanks
Thank you. I don't have a drill press, but I do have a good hand drill and a vise, something similar should work,
Sure, you can try to do the same with a hand drill. It might be a bit harder, but it may work. Good luck!
@@MatchboxRestoration I'm looking in to a fixture that makes a hand drill a small drill press. May make one if I can't buy one. Not all that complicated really.
Thanks for the info!
You're welcome!
Thanks very much for the tutorial, based on your restoration videos I've created a similar one.. and wrecked it the other day. The replacement axle material was tougher than my tool and drilled a hole in it :o( What material do you use for replacement axels? Many thanks and keep restoring them, I enjoy your channel al lot.
Thanks for becoming a Patron, Thom! I just have sent a welcome message with a personalised photo. I haven't used any replacement axles so far, but I have different options laying around. I have a couple 1/16th brass rods and an axle replacement kit from ebay (ebay.us/dpIaye) The replacement kit might be featured in my next restoration video.
I need to get myself a drill press
Haha, I got the same feeling a couple months ago. Check my community tab for an unboxing of my drill press 😉
Nice mate! I have been waiting for a good tutorial on axles! I use 2mm rivets in place of axles from time to time and I have been using a Ball-peen hammer! (Which is hard due to hitting the freshly painted tires :) )
Check out Marty's matchbox makeovers, not sure if he is the one who came up with this idea but he uses the same setup
That is where I got the idea :) Marty's good, that is for sure!
Check out Frank Fords Drill Press Tricks on UA-cam. It will help you keep the drill from walking and stay on center.
Thanks for the advice! I'll check it out.
Strange as this video reads zero views?
Matchbox Garage I don’t know what’s up with that... We’ll see in a couple hours. Thanks for the heads up.
