- Naked mole-rats have an unusual colony system that, much like ants, relies on a Queen. But when two new potential queens emerge, keepers are concerned that they may kill one another's offspring or even fight to the death!
The naked mole-rat, also known as the sand puppy, is a burrowing rodent native to parts of East Africa. It is closely related to the blesmols and is the only species in the genus Heterocephalus of the family Heterocephalidae.
From The Secret Life of the Zoo: This series gives viewers behind the scenes access to Chester Zoo's 21,000 animals and the people who work there. The zoo's keepers are interviewed in each episode about the various animals and incidents, whether it's orangutans escaping their enclosure or tigers getting into scraps.

So interesting. Wish there were longer videos going into more details about individuals in the colony.
Follow up this story please did all the queens survive?
"Gone off' and mated with someone... You mean with their brothers? 😮
damnit, I wanted to see the fight to the death
I wanna know which mole did they consulted with for interpretations.
this was more brutal than any other carnivore animals fighting for some reason lol
They looked like from horror with those teeth
I thought they were kinda cute, til they got vicious...wow. Lil turds can hold their own. 🌞
If this was in a zoo, can they not allow a bigger enclosed area where they can dig a new burrow and start a new home like ants??? I mean they only require a size of a small garden for that to work right?
It seems like it would even be beneficial to the zoo/research center to have two colonies, since they can observe twice the colony behaviour and even see some of how these splits in colonies might occur in the wild. It makes sense that there would eventually be divides, how else would the species perpetuate? This is a great research opportunity for them!
Imagine movie where people are shrunk and have to escape these creatures
How do they control the population?
Snake food!
Let's lock them up
You say gone off and mated with someone but if its only thr quuen getting pregnant aint they all interbreeding with eachother
Siblings and parents
Yes. Yes they are.
Stop playing God and let nature take its course.
They are not in a natural environment so you won’t see their true behavior
Personne pour chialer de la maltraitance dans les commentaires quand c'est pour la science.
