I go through some of Dean Cundey's cinematography techniques to help you understand his unique style.
Just to be clear: Dean Cundey changes his style to suit the movies he shoots. The goal of this video and article is to drum up enthusiasm and a yearning to learn more.
Think of it as a tribute, nothing more is intended.

I'm surprise I never read anything about dean cundey.
Glad to learn about new people.
Loved the mention of James Wong Howe. A mostly forgotten legend in cinematography.
Dean's woefully, woefully underappreciated. Thanks for doing a proper analysis of his work, it's rarer than I would've hoped.
Great summarized breakdown of Dean’s amazing input into the history of cinema. In 2015 I had an amazing opportunity to meet and talk to him at ASC clubhouse. We talked about his work with Carpenter, and he told me the story about his grip truck. It was a revolutionary move. Most importantly, he is an overall nice person when talking his passion of cinematography.
Dean Cundey is a hero of mine thanks so much.
What movie is that fight scene at 1:22 from? Looks amazing!
4 years later... The movie is The Spy Next Door
.......LOVED IT MY FAVORITE JURASSIC PARK THE WAY HE BUILDS TENSION THROUGH SHOT DIVISION IS EXTRAORDINARY.....THANKS FOR THAT ...THE WAY U TAKE TIME AND PAIN TO COLLECT ALL DATA ABOUT CINEMATOGRAPHERS IS APPRECIATED ...THANKS

Amazing review man! 😊

Dean Cundey is terrific and I miss is high key lighting style which has been replaced today with a dull realism. His is the cinema tof dreams and it really appeals to me.
Hi Sareesh, Plse Upload Video On National Award Winner Cinematographer Mahesh Aney who's Cinema Work is Less but which ever he does which is Astonishing. Thanks Dude to Simply Understanding Us The Art of Cinematography.
Where I can find Dean Cundey's workshop?
Hi,
Another nice review about cinematography. I feel that cinematography is actually an art form, I mean on the broader sense. It takes one to completely give themselves up to camera. I believe that you can also discuss about various aspects of filmmaking.
Thanks!
You should do Bill Pope next. Thanks for the great videos!
If possible, please try to analyze Mani Ratnam's work. All your videos are really good & insightful!
Excellent Analysis!
You should do Salvatore Totino, Bill Pope, Rachel Morrison, Tobias Schleissler, John Schwartzman, Donald McAlpine, Andrew Lesnie, Thierry Arbogast, Michael Ballhaus, Jost Vacano, Dan Mindel, and Jan de Bont.
Dean Cundey also shot the Disney Channel Original Movie: Camp Rock.
Please do a video essay on accomplished Indian DOP Tirru sir's work.
More more, I need more
Would you do an episode on Andrzej Sekuła?
Please do a video on Seamus McGarvey!
Great video again:)
Can you please analyse the cinematography of Adam Arkapaw?
You should cover Shane Hurlbut!
Dion Beebe has a great eye. (Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago). Thanks for doing this so I don't have to. DP's have long been robbed by directors that do not deserve any credit.
Plz do understanding the cinematography of
RAVI CHANDRAN AND RAVI VERMAN
Do one on John Seale!
Thank you! @wolfcrow
Please analyse Haskell Wexler
Please do PETER ZEITLINGER he is Werner Herzogs go to DP.
Awesome Review...@WolfCrow
I was watching Lord of the Rings the other day and realized you don't have an analysis of Andrew Lesnie. Other potential names:
Anthony Dod Mantle
Darius Khondji
Michael Ballhaus
Tak Fujimoto
Even a bad movie like Jack and Jill can have interesting visuals and depths.
Galaxina! Holy shit!
please do a video on James Cameron TITANIC🚢🚢 and AVATAR💪💪 those are still best
Needy Netha Not really
Talk about DAN MINDEL
Next binod Pradhan
Great channel. Do some Polish cinematographers like Andrzej Sekuła or Sławomir Idziak :D
Video on Quentin Tarantino Film making please :)
Hi
I will be expecting your comment about my work. I have shot the entire shoot with P2.
Great DP. Now he does crap like Jack and Jill and Home Again. :(
How do you go from Apollo 13, Hook and Jurassic Park to Jack & Jill and Home Again? Kind of wish the video had elaborated on that. Maybe he was just more ambitious earlier in this career and now wants to do easier projects (nothing wrong with that).
Good video, but the way you present it in your audio narrative is realy boring and unengaging.
