Susan is one of the most beautiful women to ever appear on screen. Her intelligence & accomplishments make her even more amazing.
I saw her on "Father Knows Best" recently. Her acting has always been first rate. She was lost to us way to soon. She sort of reminds me of Judy Holliday in that respect. Although Susan was not a comedian - She seemed to have the same kind of heart, soul & character.
I wish that some of these artists could have lived longer - so we could have seen what they could have become.
    R.I.P Susan

My memory of her was in The Green-Eyed Blonde, made in 1957. Never forgot it, but unavailable on DVD as far as I can see.

She was a remarkable woman. Multi talented in many fields and more than competent in all of them.
She is one of the most strikingly beautiful looking woman I have ever seen. Her eyes were mesmerizing & her complexion was like white satin. And yes, she will always be Vina as the green Orion slave girl that no man could resist.
She died way too young, God damn cigarettes!
I have had a crush on her since I was a little boy & will till my time on Earth comes to an end.
R.I.P. sweetheart, you shall always be missed!

I remember Susan Oliver replacing Susan Flannery as Dr. Laura Horton on the new 60-minute "Days of Our Lives" in 1975. I think she lasted about a year.

She was an incredible talent. gone far to soon to the addiction of tobacco. I cant imagine if shed lived to her 80.s 90,s? what she'd of accomplished? a space shuttle pilot? sadly we will never know. I first saw her as a kid on the Andy Griffith show. and from then its what hadn't she been on. what a maverick. RIP Ms. Oliver you surely made your mark.

i fell smitten with Susan Oliver in the 60s as soon as she landed in Peyton Place..recall seeing partial scene from Green Eyed Blonde after school one day. Any time I saw her I was enthralled.Surely I was under some stoned impression thinking that she had died much earlier...i would have sought her out perhaps. captivating presence on screen. thanks.

I was just watching Susan in the crazy "Love-Ins" movie. A mind twister to see her character asking for acid and saying she wanted to get "very far out".... sort of with a "why am I doing this movie" smirk.
Susan must have been on every episodic show I knew of in the 60s. I was absolutely in love with her look (those eyes with the makeup style she used), her voice, and the way she moved. She and Laura Devon were just about heaven for me there circa 1963-65.
I still vividly remember Susan's final appearance on the nighttime "Peyton Place". That shot of her character, dead on the rocks by the water. The close-up to her face. What a shocker. Wish it were on youtube somewhere.... I had just been getting used to seeing Susan on a show where I could count on staring at her in one place each week.
For as visible as she was, I applaud that no one can get info on her private life. Such an impossible thing to do.. remain anonymous. Just makes me desire her more than I already did when she was alive.
I hope you get to make your movie.... I hope as an actor, I can be in it... even if as a smitten fan, blowing a kiss as an extra in the documentary. At any rate, I just love Susan. Had I been three years older in 1966, I would have made a huge attempt to find her out here in LA.

I think Susan is much better known for her role in the Andy Griffith show episode, "Children of Love." She was an amazing woman. Not just in Hollywood, but in aviation (as you note), and her other iconic roles.

Susan Oliver was capable of giving such varied performances. Compare her first Wagon Train to her last, and her Route 66 shows to her Gomer Pyle show. Just how long did she date Sandy Koufax? Were they in a serious relationship?

    • @gpxxxxxx
      @gpxxxxxx  11 років тому +2

No one knows for sure about how long she was w/ Koufax. Definitely in late '62 and well into '63. They supposedly broke up in late '63, but there is evidence that they were on again in the summer of '65. She was so secretive and lived such a compartmentalized life that it's very hard to figure out a lot about her personal life (even her family and friends aren't sure of many things). She was, in every sense, an enigma...

She had no kids and didn't get married that's what I call a life. Taking care of yourself is easy and becoming an acteress is nothing without family. No great story here.
