What are you talking about? Portugal never won ANYTHING without Ronaldo. With him, they got an Euro and a Nations. After he left United, they got nothing. As an argentinian, I love watching people discovering our history. I'm almost the same age as Messi, I watched his entire career from the start. What a ride it was! Can't explain the pain of losing the WC final in 2014, and also can't explain the joy of winning the WC in 2022.

The thing that this video does not show is that as a child playing for Newell's Old Boys (NOB) in Rosario Argentina, he had problems with his glands to produce the growth hormones and he was not growing. The parents were trying to procure the treatment. The parents did for a while, but, it was too expensive in the long run. The parent's asked the team Newell's Old Boys for financial assistance to pay for the treatment and NOB denied to pay for his treatment. He went to River Plate (one of the largest teams in Argentina from the Capital Buenos Aires) when Messi told them that he was playing for NOB, the told him and his parents to go get the transfer from NOB. That is when NOB sent him and his parents to go FLY A KITE. Lucky for him there was a recruiter from Barcelona FC (From Spain) that was interested in Messi and decided to pay for the treatment and provided employment for his father (who went with him to Barcelona because he was a MINOR). LIONEL MESSI was injecting his legs AS A CHILD with the medication on a DAYLY BASIS. With this treatment he grew, played in the Barcelona FC Kids league and moved up the ranks until he Debut in Barcelona FC at the tender age of 17.

At the 17:00 minute mark, that game against Ecuador was just one half of the story. Argentina also needed my country Brazil to beat Chile for them to qualify for the World Cup 2018 which we did beat Chile 3-0. But mind you during that time a lot of us Brazilians wanted Brazil to forfeit the game so that Chile would go to the World Cup instead of Argentina.

I'm sorry it's going to be long but here it is. Messi had a lot of pressure to win the world cup and Copa America from the beginning. He put to him self by saying it so many times and fans expected him to do. They lost three consecutive finals even tho he was doing everything win player of the tournaments but kept losing and Messi got destroyed by the media and fans in his own country, he would leave Argentina depressed as fuck over and over again, some reporters would say Messi is the reason they don't win and that he should leave. Even fans started to say it, over and over again after missing that penalty and losing the third final he said to him maybe I'm the problem after all, he was crying on the field for the first time he was a broken man and he decided to leave the national team for his peace and the fans coz they asked for it. But the crazy thing is when they realized he actually left they were shocked and fans were devastated the whole country began to ask Messi to come back, fans started to blame media for that even the president begged him to come back, which started a reform in the national team that gave birth to the national team that won everything with him.
Copa América is a separate tournament for South American teams and invited nationals from North America, the next one is this summer, also this summer there is the European championships in Germany, so it's a big big summer

The World Cup is like the Olympics of football it includes the world. Every continent has a continental competition for Europe it is called the Euros in South America its called the Copa America and in North America, it's called the CONCACAF Nations League wich the USA just won against Mexico in the final. The continental compations have nothing to do with the World Cup but it obviously gives you a good idea of the best national side in each continent. To be crowned the best national team in your continent is a big deal, especially in Europe and South America where football is at its strongest.
