funny that I found out yesterday that "behind the mask", which is a song by japanese group Yellow Magic Orchestra, was remade by Michael Jackson and was supposed to come out in his "Thriller" album! Even if he dropped it then, Eric Clapton, The Human League and Greg Phillinganes covered it in the 80s based on his version before Michael's was released some years ago!! (though I believe the original would be more fitted into eletronic music, not exactly city pop, anyway it reminded of it ^^')
3:29 This feels like it was ripped right off of Kadumatso Toshiki's song "Hatsu koi". I love it that they actually cared why City Pop is so famous, And put a little thought on that part too.
Honestly, I would rent a yacht and just fish, not even caring if i catch anything just so I can listen to this song with the waves rowing the boat. Forgive my poetry night monologue.
Interesting Question: I looked up Gene Miller on Google and discovered there is one person who did the singing voice of Kovu from The Lion King 2 with the same name. Is that the same guy?
There is something not right with the instrumental. Like it doesn't sync up with the vocal. I'm waiting for it to catch up. Like suspended animation. The syncopation is throwing me off. Trying too hard to sound urban like Fresh Prince Other than that I like the vocals. I agree that Mr Miller sounds a lot like Bruno Mars! Neat!
I disagree. This one has a nice, sexy, kick-ass, and unmatched pop to it. The original is sexy in its own way too. Tatsuro's is quiet sexy and Gene's is both, but more-so a get into the groove with me version.
Of course the original will always be better Unfortunately, the upload(s) of the original will always gets nuked off of this platform, so this cover shall suffice in the meantime.
@@joelwilliams8887 which part of my comment you disagreed with? That the original is better? Or perhaps you misinterpreted my comment and thought I was saying this version is "bad", and disagreed with that?
@@nigrum_angelum6655, I simply disagreed with you. The original is better, in your opinion. In my opinion, Gene Miller's version is even better. I think we can both agree that each of the styles are enjoyable.
It's neat that there were english covers of city pop songs being made close to the originals release dates.

This song is amazing. It sounds like it needs to be playing over the credits of an 80's action-romance.
The two leads kiss as firemen rush to put out a fire because the ortagonist blew up a terrorist factory hidden in the industrial area
80th like
It was on a Japanese romcom drama about pilots in 2003 called "good luck" drama was a mega hit also this song too.
Or an ending where after a freeze frame it plays a slideshow that shows what happened to the characters lol
@@hechannyThe one with Takuya Kimura as the lead role.
If ride on time translates to a 90s sitcom op I'm fine with that.
well it was a 00's ending so
@@munmunyeeGood Luck!! featuring Takuya Kimura.
@@Jiterdomer correct!
This is one of the few covers I love
I love this whole vibe

Thank you Rick Astley AI
So real
The nostalgic feeling of this track is beyond uplifting!
sound like the guy whom sings the Chip n Dale opening
Gene Miller's voice sometimes sounds similar to Bruno Mars. But that's cool, in this way we can see how he would sing this song.
Coincidentally, Peter Gene Hernandez is Bruno Mars' real name.
@@MrScarfaceFr That's true but not really relevant in this context
@@Raphaelmusicofficial Yeah, but you could say singing is in their genes ;)
@@MrScarfaceFrthat was great
The hook did what I needed it to do
such a different flow on the hook but still so good
Love Rick astley doing this one but gene mill isn't so bad
This could be on the ending credits of an 80s film
holy shit i had no idea there was an english version of this song
Gene Miller sus temas se escuchan en la película Maniquí 2
Y en el Rey León 2
Here because I can't memorise Japanese songs but I love the original
Same goes for me
Did it say on the album that this song was made in 1985, because Discogs is indicating 1990?
@@EzraTheBlueKnight Gene Miller was in Lion King II though, released in 1998.
Also this doesnt sound very 1985. The synth horns and programmed drums sound very late 80s and early 90s.
@@yellowpsychopath Still 80s nonetheless.

creo que la versión en español de aquellos tiempos la habría cantado Luis Miguel
We need an instrumental version!
