Channel 0 and Channel 5 are distinct when theyre on their own, but when theyre played together in harmony, your brain melds them into an entirely new sound
@@challelamel7396Yup. On top of reusing assets from previous games, they also technically used a piece of music from a previous game, and thought they could get away with it.
@@PsychoticWonders0725 relax man. the entire game is intentionally built like that. not that im defending it, but it was exactly their intention. plus its not a copy paste from the genesis LOL
It took me a while to realize it, but now that I do, it makes me that much more appreciative. This song, composed by Masato Nakamura, is written as a waltz. It's written in standard triple time, 3/4 beat. In each measure, the bass (Channel 1) plays the chord's root note first, followed by the make-up of the rest of the chord (Channels 2, 3, and 4). It creates that feeling of control, and since these chords are mostly majors, they're easy to understand. Meanwhile the leads (Channels 1 and 5) sort of dance all over the place, but still follow a nice harmony that ties everything in. Even PSG 0 is following the chords. I like to think that this creates a sense of wonder, in the fact that the special stages are an interesting piece of the game, one that tells the player to slowly think and make sure you find the right path to the emerald. "Waltz for the Emerald".
For some reason without Channel 5 it just doesn't sound complete. It gives a nostalgic melancholy feel to the entire song, like it's being played somewhere far away. Everything together sounds dreamy and trippy, but there's always this subtle bite of unease with this song. Whether it's sad or not it's always been one of my favorites :)
One of my favorite video game songs ever. Its so dreamy and brings me back to being a kid, playing Sonic in my neighbors living room, every time. Thanks! ❤
This song always reminded me of a sort of lullaby. And with a lot of the comments here saying that its a "waltz" makes me wonder how many actual lullabies are "waltzes" too.
3 of these Chsnnels are dedicated to hurting your ears. I also believe the reason that the DAC isn't used in this song is for the sound effects in the special stages. That bass is really thick as well, gets drained out.
Channel 5 must be also occupy the extra life music because if you get an extra life channel 5 drops out after the extra life music plays. Just a random observation.
Not to necro, but it's because the extra life sound is played in DAC, which confuses the game because while it can use DAC and Channel 5 separately, it can't use them together, so DAC takes the highest priority, and cuts out channel 5 so DAC can actually be used

For me sometimes my brain can separate it and it doesn’t work as well!
A perfect name for this song would be "psychedelic waltz"
I honestly agree
Nah. LSD Dance is better.
If this was a Knuckles Chaotix song
It would probably be called like that or something similar
Masato nakamura said he intended this to be a waltz
Lol😍💅✨✨

The way some beats move in the Oscilloscope remind me of the actual Special Stage, the background images to be specific

Channel 5 is turned off once you get 100 rings (after the "1-up" jingle) for some reason, and maybe the PSG 0 and 1.
Never noticed that. Maybe some bug in the game caused that.
I know why. The 1-UP jingle uses DAC, which confuses the game because it cannot do both Channel 5 and DAC, so it cancels out Channel 5.
I always wondered about that. I thought it was extra special that the music changed when getting a 1-Up there.
Also, PSG 1 and Channel 1 are completely non-existent in the mobile port of Sonic 1.
i think because 1-up jingle's dac channel overlays channel 5
The PSG channels always remind me of the Game Gear sound! But that channel one BASS DOE!
It's because the PSG channels are part of the Master System and Game Gear's sound chip
@@Manu-ei2yj thats what i was thinking🍻🍺🍺🍻🍻🍻🐶
Yeah PSG0 and 1 are 8-bit channels
I never would have realized that Channels 0 and 5 overlay to form a more complete sound before this deconstruction.

My favorite is Channel 0, not just for the way it sounds, but also for the way the crests and troughs of the sound wave dance with each other.

I did realize! The Bass is the same when Sonic dies.

In Sonic 4 EP I, Channels 0 and 5 are erased, and PSG is the lead.
In the S1 remake, PSG are stronger
Actually, I would guess they added another PSG channel for a delay effect in the S1 remaster
@@TheGustavoPlayer11 If that's true, then they did very well on the Remastered music
Channel 1 sounds like the same instrument for the death sound in this game.
That's because it is.

It basically is.

Cool how Channels 2-4 have a harmonica sounding instrument
at the start channel 2 sounds simular to that one part in green hill zone.

the dac isn't used for sound effects. I supposed it wasn't used on purpose.
What category would this type of video be considered??
I'm pretty sure they removed PSG1 in the iOS remake of this game
Could you do Doomsday Zone Oscilloscope Deconstruction?
This has to be the only Sonic 1 song that uses Channel 5. It's so rarely used in Sonic's Genesis soundtrack.
1:39 what's the name of that instrument/sound?
Good question!
Car horn.
2 of the channels in Sonic 2’s Special stage sounds like this song.
And hol up there is no DAC!
I can only hear Channels 0 and 5 as their own now. That’s crazy.
