They have a general idea of the run time of a sketch, especially after the taped run-through, but you can't be short and left with empty space; they always have more material in case they need it. Sadly, they always do that. They used to do it with those great Kyle & Beck skits too.. SNL hates humor and have a history of firing the funniest people... a souffle had to miraculously rise twice just to get Shane on the program. I would say 'what a joke', but that'd be giving SNL too much credit. Shane's appearance punctuated just how weak SNL usually is.. I didn't skip a single skit last night, between this, Jamaican church, trump shoes and the game show it was the first episode that felt like classic old school SNL in many, many years.
it's not as much that, they just know what's gonna work on social media and they think they know what works on air, so these really off the wall absurdist type things get shoved to youtube content because its more typically enjoyed by younger people, they've been doing it since they had andy samburg (who i think appeared like only 6 times on the actual show) the only thing they're missing is that, the absurdist shit is really all people want now

It's not a racial thing for the vast majority, in fact it's not that uncommon to see blacks and hispanics also rocking it..Not looking to reinstate slavery or any of that bullshit, we just see it as a symbol of Southern heritage. Though I can understand some who aren't from where I am, being a bit confused or put off by it..
