Pete should have a signature delay pedal called the re-Pete
Nice and corny dad joke! 😁
Oh Captain my captain! You sexy beast!
@@cchavez248 Where is your jokes? Anyone can be a Monday quarterback.. lets see YOU come up with good jokes!
@@michaelcraig9449 lol, I can't come up with a better joke than you! 😂
I love my Boonar Pedal so much. Best (echorec) delay available. No wonder that Mr Gilmour has this on his board as well
Is your's the first version, or version 2? Apparently the first is brighter, and the v2 was made to sound a bit darker?
I have to admit that I already planned on purchasing this pedal and after hearing Pete demo it my prejudice is confirmed. Manufactures take note, Mr. Thorn is worth a premium.
1 minute in and I am floored. This track's progression is fire Pete!
Thanks!
Wow... another pedal i will buy because of your videos :D
The UFO-landing in the end was just epic :P
Once again Pete. A tune of magnificent. I think you are really cool.
Thanks Dan!
"I can't wait to play One of These Days", I see what you did there Pete! ;)
This pedal has been on my board since it first came out, truly magical!
Epic Phrasing in the intro ! Epic demo as usual too thanks.
Another amazing, tonally rich pedal. You have some great sounding pedals. Exceptional song feature as well. Love the clean jams. Rock on PT!
Jesus. Thank you Pete. Fuck. I have watched almost EVERY single video available for this pedal. (Short video). And no one has really explained what the input trim pot does properly. Thanks man.
There are also a set of dipswitches inside the pedal which allows control over Tails, Modern/Aged delay type etc. This pedal is designed for tweeking. The instructions ask owners to take the back off and experiment with the various controls. It’s not an easy delay to set up and is really of the same mindset that created the original Echorec. You mess with it until you find what you want. To recreate dotted 8ths etc requires more than knob twiddling.
The disk you see in the Binson is actually only the encasing that contains a reel with a metal string that is used instead of magnetic tape. It's a recording media that was used before the invention of tape, it was largely used on battlefields to record messages (did you have in mind a very old radio back-pack?). The steel string can only record one mono track, it's frequency response is not flat at all and the string will move in strange ways while spinning (like turning on its own axis), creating all sort of distortions and flutters... and this is why we like it.
Actually the wire is wound on the outside of the drum and milled flat to ensure the correct contact with the head.
That’s a total tone boonar! 😎
Frampton used the Binson too 👍🏻
Just bought this pedal in large part because of this demo.
Thank you dude!
I need a t-shirt that says "Pete Thorn demos things, then I buy them"
Out of my price range, unfortunately, but I want one now. Seems like a very unique delay, and not just another pedal that does the exact same thing as 75% of the other delay pedals out there.
Great song , so much feeling!
Sounds fantastic man. Makes me think Dean Deleo must have had an Echorec around in the purple / tiny music era of STP. Totally nails those tones with the swell repeat thing.
Not sure on the solo if you meant to "channel" Larry Carlton via "On Solid Ground" era, but, wow! That was beautiful stuff!
Of yeah, the pedal probably helped too... nice gear;)
Really a great effect Pete thorn.
Rocking the Norman’s rare guitars shirt
Wow that really does sound great.Cool music too Pete.peace
definitely caught my attention! Thanks Pete!
Epic emotive playing once again too, cheers!
Another one for my list!
Beautiful intro track!
Great pedal. I have a Strymon El Capistan. Seems like the Boonar have more control over the sound. Very cool lush quality to the sound. Thanks Pete.
Wow ...great demo & excellent playing as well. 👍🎸🎶 I'm definitely subbing.
Lovely delay! Very shimmery.
Had to listen a few more times. This reminds me of tracks from Mayer's Continuum.
Mayer has a Boonar … though Continuum may be older than the pedal?!
Personally I think this sounds better than the Strymon in the demos I've heard, and I own a El Capistan.
Amazing brother! Was just reading pink Floyd autobiography today while in Thailand, they used the benson a lot in 1967 and onwards, first on the single with Syd Barrett titled “ Candy and a current bun” small world brother, great content once again, cheers!
I don't know why, but the snare in the backing track really got my attention! Is that a live drumkit?
Dude that sounds next level great. Nice song too pete!
Beautiful demo music. And those tones..... I am curious as to the signal chain after the amp. Are you using an IR in the amp direct to the DAW, through an OX or other load box, or a mic'd setup?
Zeppelin used a Binson Echorec on the drums in When the Levee Breaks, so it'd be interesting to see drummers use this pedal, though not sure how it'd work in a live situation, they'd have to separately mic up the different parts of the set
Nope, the sound engineer could have it as a send effect in his mixing console
Awesome! What’s the overdrive for the solo starting at 10:07 ? Very Jeff Beck like
Until I get that Binson and the Pluto Plate and that Fulltone Tape Echo I will have to make do with emulators. Boonar seems top choice to me, hoping to get one this year.
NICE jam. Dude
I got an ad for the kids' choice awards on this video.. lol
i love this pedal, and the only thing it's missing is some kind of offset control for the multiple heads, i.e. each repeat will not line up with the last (makes for a really amazing ambient echo-ey-reverb). if it had this, it would be my pedal... alas, the search must continue.
the video is great, btw... informative and all around good demo. thanks!
Can it get a real nostalgic "twinkling stars" type sound? I am looking for that..
I had one! Amazing! It had a memory disk! No tape! The memory disk was guaranteed for life! It’s the only Echo that gives you the “ underwater” sound! Think submarine sonar! I always regret selling it! Young and foolish!
I have one recommendation. The way the drums are mixed on the demo track are overpowering the guitar making it harder to hear. That’s an easy mistake I’ve done before too.
That riff reminded me of Thin Air by Anathema.
Sonny1096 me too
What do you mean by Echo-"REC"?
I think I finally found the delay I could really use.. but it’s really expensive..
Want!
I'm really liking this one! Shame there isn't an input for an expression pedal, that would be perfect for changing the delay time to achieve that pitch bending effect.
A deluxe version is coming out this spring with expression control (plus tap tempo, midi, presets, and real tubes!).
Awesome! Thank you so much for the heads up and the reply!
Dawner Prince Boonar Tube Deluxe coming in 2024. 950 msDe;ayvs 330 ms with a tube. $$$$$
Please compare this to the Strymon
haven't tried the Strymon....
Pete Thorn - This is a major issue for me. I’m having an extremely hard time picking one to go with. I would need to order either one without the ability to A/B them. I’m sure that if you can get your hands on the Strymon it will be one of your most watched videos.
Oh boy. Let's not tell Pete about euroracks or he's going to flip! 😏
Hi Pete,
Love this pedal, had one for awhile now. Did you run yours in the front end or in the effects loop of your PT15?
I ran mine in the loop for a while. Then I jammed it in the front and I have to say especially using the preamp cranked it's much, much better. I think digital delays are better in the loop, these more "colourful" delays are better in the front.
What scales did you learn to develop your soloing like the shur 80/ video
I had thought the catalinbread was the end-all binson so thats what I bought, never have played a real one. This seems much better and complete. I wonder how they compare.
Still, I just set it for doubling or subtle repeat, still don't know what to do with all the settings. Thanks for showing me
Gotta say, I get the most out of your demos/instruction
I've had both and would say that soundwise they're quite compatible. The eq on the Catalinbread has way more range to it and put a gun to my head I might prefer its repeats. But it having the preamp and modulation controls on the inside was a downer, and the head selection method on the Boonar is waaay easier to understand and implement. Plus the swell switch gives instant access to sounds that you'd have to fiddle with on the Catalinbread.
@@hoover728 same problems I have with it although I can't say any of that stuff gets changed all that much. Good to know I'm not missing out that much keeping the cbread
Cool pedal...buuuut is that a Suhr PT15-IR in da house???? Ohhhhh...
Really nice. Love anything that reminds me of Jimmy Page, the most underrated guitarist.
I know what you mean in today’s context . But in the mid seventies, had you said this publicly , everyone would’ve laughed . underrated ?
Michael Taylors I wasn’t alive during the 70s but I believe you. But nowadays only cold precision is awarded. Listening to some guitarists it could easily be a programmed midi track playing. Many people now have never heard a Jimi Hendrix album from start to finish, and they criticize people like that for playing “messy”.
Guitarists aim to pick with as little attitude as possible, never going to hard or the thought police might come knocking.
Everyone has to sound “polite”.
I like hearing a mess that’s turned into an art form, that’s the real spirit of rock.
Lex Pullman . I love a little mess . JP found the sweet spot
I know it's recreation - but it's DSP, so WHY limit it to MONO???
Poul Winther Knudsen - I bet if you buy one for each channel and set them slightly different it would sound extraordinary.
@@wolfnstrings Yeah, it doesn't really work that way. Still a step backwards.
An expression pedal input, for mixing the wet and dry signals, would also have taken this pedals usage to a higher level.
Really nice! I didn't know Dave Gilmore of Pink Floyd used the original! Was it on The Wall and Dark Side? Keep up the great work Pete!
Run Like Hell is probably the best known example...
He inherited it from Syd who used it on the first album and used it up to til Animals when he went digital. Now he uses the Boonar and has been consulting with Dawner Prince on the new version!
And the drums on When The Levee Breaks by led zeppelin had a Binson Echorec on them too. One of the most iconic drum sounds ever. It'd be interesting if drummers bought this to use live for covering that song
The Echorec entered PF back when Sydcwas in the band. They soon had several of them. Pretty sure that "One of these Days" from the Meddle album has the Echorec on Guitar, Bass, and Keyboard/Organ.
That’s a gorgeous pedal! Dan Steinhardt from TPS loves it as well. It really does seem to have a great vibe to it. Pete, did the ageing above the trem unit on your white Suhr happen naturally or was it reliced at the factory?
What you see is as it is new. I have one and it takes a bit of understanding to use. It is not a delay pedal, it is an Echorec replica. Get one!
As an old Echorec player/fan (I have mine still, but it isn't operational - need a repair source!!!), I can say that this pedal isn't one. But it is very cool, anyway.
yeah Michael Brauer swears by the original for mixing with
Time machine to 1975.
Bought and already sold. Sounds great clean but the preamp really destroys your dry tone. It's really obvious in true bypass mode. If there was no preamp it would have been a keeper. Love the multihead design. Gave you a thumbs up anyway because you're the man Pete!
Which Echorec would you recommend thar doesn't do that?
THE ONLY DELAY IVE LIKED IS THE LO RES ON THE LINE 6 M9
Why has nobody mentioned here the Strymon Volante, far superior:
