      @Jim Policke Not necessarily. With single feed mags the convergence still has to happen, it just does so in the magazine instead of the gun. Who doesn’t hoard magazines? If you plan on using the gun for anything more than backyard/range plinking, there’s no disadvantage to having additional mags, aside from cost. I always prefer inter-platform mag compatibility, but lacking that lots of extra freedom seed dispensers for any given platform is helpful.

      Having plenty of loaded magazines before going to range can save you a lot of time. On many ranges in my country you pay per hour, so the less time i spend reloading the more i can actually shoot. I came to conclusion that 5 mags for a pistol and 8-10 mags per rifle is optimal for me, especially if those mags are high quality (like HK pistol mags - immortal unless you intentionally destroy them).

      Strange. I saw the same video (I think) and the guy making the video seemed to think a $40+ magazine should work better. My YHM AR-9 upper came with the Hahn magwell adapter, takes Colt SMG patter mags, and is very satisfactory. You can't beat the ruggedness and reliability of the Colt pattern magazines (which are based on Uzi mags) and they cost under $20 from ASC. If you want just a single mag the Endomag is the way to go. If you want a baker's dozen magazines or more, ASC Colt pattern mags are the ticket.

Double stack, double feed, LRBO in the rear, and curved where necessary. Now if only someone would make a roller-delayed PCC that used them...

    There's a flaw with the business model which is counting on magazine sales to make a profit.
    I've actually looked at guns i was interested in, then decided not to buy them for no reason except the cost and availability of spare magazines.
    This is a particularly big issue for me with inexpensive guns. I have a Taurus 709 slim. For a while magazines were out of stock everywhere and the only option was to buy from an online auction, where the going rate was ~$70. When I finally found one in stock at regular retail price it still cost almost 15% of what I paid for the gun itself.
    I needed a small 9mm for ccw, and it was the only gun that had the necessary form factor that also fit my hand. If there had been any other option at the time I would not own a Taurus 709.
    Manufacturers of inexpensive guns need to either produce large quantities of affordable magazines or agree on some standard designs that they will all use and let the aftermarket industry provide them. The cost and availability of magazines really is a huge factor in deciding whether to buy an inexpensive gun or pay extra for a big name brand with available magazines.

    As someone who tends to end up with guns where there is no mag support, I feel looking for a gun with widely available magazines is a programmed reaction. Sure, it may hurt to be able to spend 30-50$ to buy a magazine made for your specific gun that's 100% reliable, but when you sometimes CAN'T do that...it hurts even worse.

    From a consumer stand point, using Glock mags is handy because every gun/pawn shop has tons of 20, 30+ round Glock mags in stock for under 30 dollars all the time. Example I was able to buy 5 boxes of fiocci 9mm and 5 30 round Glock mags for 100 dollars.
    I wouldn't mind propiotary mags if they are readily available and relatively cheap, or even easily ordered.

      W're slowly getting there, at least as far as PCCs are concerned. The CZ Scorpion was, and I hate to say this because it's honestly an overplayed phrase, a game changer in the PCC world. A polymer magazine designed from the ground up as an SMG magazine, taking direct shots at the MP5, while coming in at half the price of an MP5 mag and equivalent in price to a similar capacity Glock magazine, but containing all the features you're missing from the Glock. Now we have aftermarket support (Magpul, Manticore, F5 MFG, PSA) for magazines, and compatible firearms are starting to come to market too (PSA's AK-V and AR-V, as well as many other AR-platform guns) and we may finally have a 9mm solution for a PCC that isn't a Glock or the antiquated MP5, UZI and Colt options.
      Now we just need someone to bring a similar, cheap solution for other pistol cartridges (.40, .45, 10mm) that can ride the Scorpion's success.

    In all fields of engineering, there's a saying "X, Y, and Z. Pick any two". (Usually X = Good, Y = Fast, Z = Cheap.) It's a matter of making the right tradeoffs so the solution space coincides with the right spot in the problem space, as Ian's just explained.

    • @lord_hemp
      @lord_hemp 3 роки тому

      So if you make it good and fast, wouldn't that eventually lead to it being cheap? Like a kalashnikov relatively speaking
      And if you made it good and cheap (but seemingly slow, because otherwise you would have all three), wouldn't it be more expensive because of low supply and high demand?

    • @parrotraiser6541
      @parrotraiser6541 3 роки тому

      @@lord_hemp "if you make it good and fast, wouldn't that eventually lead to it being cheap?" Only if cost was dominated by suitability for mass production. If it needs high-grade unobtanium to work, it's going to stay dear. There's also a big difference between price (what customers are willing to pay) and cost; the resources needed to make it. Unless price > cost, it's not a product, it's a burden.
