I wonder about Descartes' first two assumptions: 1) There must be a perfect being, God 2) A perfect being can't be a deceiver These two assumptions seem to be faulty or at least not certain. If we consider the "God" in our scriptures, he seems far from perfect. Also, there are many examples of him being deceitful.
Thanks. He did not claim that there is a perfect being. He proved it by deductive reasoning (which is not shown in the video). One of the proofs is in Descartes meditation 3. He proves it differently in other sections. Scripture may be interpreted differently. the following is straight from the bible: Psalm 18:30 This God-his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. Regardless, Descartes did not follow the bible, but only his own rational methodology.
