- A video tutorial of how to score the Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration, 6th edition using a protractor.
I am an occupational therapist and I work in the public school setting.
I do not own any rights to to this assessment and I am only using this for tutorial purposes to show other occupational therapists how to score the assessment based on the Beery VMI 6th edition manual.
Item 18 - Make sure to read the note in the scoring manual for this item. There is an exception for floating tips. "This form is particularly valuable as an indicator of a young child's developing directionality. However, it presents a bit of a scoring problem for older children, who tend to copy it quickly because it is within their easy command. Floating points among these children are fairly common as a result. Therefore, allow floating points of no more than 1/16 of an inch if the reproduction is otherwise good and the child succeeds on each of the next three forms" (page 53 of the VMI 6th edition manual).
Page 28 of VMI Manual 6th edition states: Most experienced scorers will seldom need a protractor or ruler to score the Beery VMI. In general, it is better to gain a good developmental sense or gestalt for each form's evolution by studying its developmental trends than it is to focus on the details of reproduction.
"If in Doubt Rule: It is very important to remember when scoring a form that, if in doubt, score it as meeting the criteria. Inexperienced scorers tend to be too strict, which can greatly affect the norms."
Hope this information is also helpful.
omg, this helps a lot. #23 "outer trangle left angle" uhhhhh... They should letter label it in the manual.
What if the student's raw score is too low to obtain a standard score? In the scoring booklet standard scores stop at 45, and then dots are provided after. Would the student's standard score be 45, or is the score too low to calculate? Thank you!
Hello. Thank you so much for showing us how to score. I'm now faced with the difficulties of changing raw scores to standard scores. How do I go about doing that? Your help would be much appreciated
Is this the same scoring procedure you would use for adults?
For item 16, isn’t it scored a 0 if they went outside of the box?
That’s what I’m thinking 🤔
