  • After losing a nice male Coops. I decided I needed to fix a few things.
For your info the trap is 3ft across and 4ft across... when open.
    Hope you enjoy the video!

as a master falconer and a trapper i would suggest using bungee cord instead of the springs...a cooper and goshawk will a lot of the times work around the bottom of the trap on the ground trying to get the bait birds ...they can get caught in the springs and tear flesh remove feathers etc...also i use 1"x1/2" wire for the bait cage as 1x1 allows a coopers hawk to reach inside and you wont have bait for long especially alive =)

The original version of the German Goshawk trap utilized a set of "double coiled" springs. It was actually 1 spring coiled inside of another - these springs are the key to making the original trap as seen in Phillip Gazier's book Falconry & Hawking. I always wanted one of these traps, but never could source the springs.

Nice pun at 2:58 about a working trap and catch you in a little bit.

Yep, I remember that whole fiasco you had there when you were grabbing your gloves and that Cooper's hawk escaped. I'd say you are all set with that trap you fixed right there.

Someone gave it to me years ago. I’m not sure where you get it today. It’s probably a commercial fishing net.

@@bigzachraptors Looks awesome, love that you hodge-podged it together with random stuff. Thinking of making one of these so I wont have to depend on the ol' BC for trapping.
