    A really good way to practice checking corners is to go into Practice Mode and play Spike Plant and Spike Defuse. Go from Easy, Medium, then Hard.
    Try it with different scenarios too. Like one with full abilities/armor, and one with no armor/abilities, and with different guns.
    It's really good for practicing movement too. Practice jiggle peeking, counter-strafing etc..
    The bots also change positions everytime so you don't always know which angles they're going to be.

    • @rickzheng2457
      @rickzheng2457 4 роки тому +3

      I've played it alot though since I started playing and eventually you learn the spawn patterns but the hard bots can still catch you off guard ;)

    • @Vennnaya
      @Vennnaya 4 роки тому +3

      Yea the problem with those practice modes tho is that its always the same AMMOUNT of bots per run, and there is only so many places they can stand so you get in to the habbit of just checking where they can spawn rather than every single angle. And spike plant practice bots are dumb as bricks, they just rush the site and go straight for the defuse which makes them predictable. They really need to improve those tools.

    • @bloodwolf2609
      @bloodwolf2609 4 роки тому +2

      @@Vennnaya the bots have a chance to spawn in all the angles, the reason that having a fixed amount of bots per round is bad is only because you don't have a scoreboard or kill feed. If you had those then it would be a better experience but it still shows you the basics of checking corners.

    Coming from Overwatch, I feel like I always have to be doing something. Overwatch is a... dense game. There’s always multiple things going on very quickly and if you aren’t being proactive and taking action, you’re starting to lose. On both sides in Valorant, I try taking engagements early, usually thought out using info and utility, but a lot of the time it doesn’t work out. Even if I get that frag, I usually get traded out (which is why I gravitate towards Jett who can escape, also her ult feels very Overwatch-y).
    This video helped me consciously realize how I need to adapt my play. I recently had the conclusion that I don’t always have to be doing something, many times waiting on a couple angles for an entire minute can be more beneficial than trying to make something happen, especially on defense. Also as I’m writing this- “playing for picks” doesn’t mean trying to force a situation where you can get a lead via a kill, but instead just waiting for a mistake to secure that kill. It’s actually more of a passive thing than an active one.
    Anyways, I hope my comment helped some people who come from OW and are finding themselves with similar issues.

    The only thing I disagree with is the idea of peeking mid (ramps) at the start of the round. It can be very beneficial to aggress a pick on defence, especially if the enemy recognises you won't be holding hookah and overwhelm you by playing too passive. If we run though the possible angles as you said, the enemy will always appear at the left of the arch, so you will always have the right angle to prefire someone's head. Its very easy to smoke, molly and flash you out of passive angles that sometimes you got to push back or you won't be able to retake the site.
    There will sometimes be situations the enemy will always or never beat you in gunfights at (aka strengths and weaknesses). To recognise that is what makes you a good player, not following a strict set of rules that hold you back from fragging and holding more ground (exploring outside the basics makes you a better player).
    Furthermore about the floating point, I believe pheonix did the right move pushing the enemy brim on B long, but he did not know when to disengage, which was actually causing him to float on Mid for too long. You could argue I'm speaking from hindsight but good gamesense can run this scenario through your head after playing a few rounds.
    The enemy will sometimes form a split push too, which gives you the gamesense to understand someone will be isolated from the enemy team, this is the optimal chance to fish a pick as a defender and even flank a rotation. Remember that pheonix is a duelist, taking on 1v1's is his greatest strength, not sitting in CT with an AWP.

    That flash push was totally fine. They wouldn't expeect ct to push aggressively. He just didnt have the aim to back it up. Yea some people over do it but its not a bad thing to do otherwise. Peeking corners comes from experience. The more u play the more you will realise that youre getting killed from peeking this way or that way. Then u slowly adapt. But people dont play the game enough to get better usually. Most people just play for the fun.

    I don't necessarily agree that defense should just play defense. I come from cs, and r6, in which i think that it's best for 1 or 2 people to play aggressively. If you're too passive on defense, the offense will have a lot more space and would be able to rotate between sites, throwing you off.

    I was an aggressive CS player who relied on simply outshooting the other team, I peaked at Supreme. Valorant is different in that once you have "lost" a gunfight (i.e. you haven't killed them and you've lost spray control) you can't escape because the movement speed is so slow. As a defensive player, use that slow movement speed AGAINST the attackers. Learn head-height crosshair placement and just one tap fools.

    It happens to me when I play Solo Q that I am holding an angle that i don´t see the enemy coming from so I don´t trust my team to hold theirs and I feel the need to over agro to try to carry, putting myself in this exact situations. In offense is the other way because you feel like there is no way to break in without coordinating utility, which won´t happen in solo q, so you kind of wait for the deffenders to make a mistake.

    You cant say "there is no need to push as defenders" u can play defensiv or agressiv, u can do a coordinated push to get map control and more info. what dinz and sova could have done is pushing out hookah, shooting an arrow like sova did to get info, use utility to control the door down ramp and peek long and get huge control over the map. this is of course only one example, but my point is there are many different tactics to hold angles or bombsites. Im 3 mins into the video bare in mind im LEM on CS been playing for a while an i take alot of aggressive peaks with low probability but i have never thought of it like this ive always just shoulder peak to get info then prefire but you cant do that in this game so looking at it this way has shown me how i die often in this game due to aim punch an slower movement speeds so i need to be more careful

      I thought i sucked until I lowered my mouse sensitivity. When we get panicked in a fight, overshooting our aim is detrimental. Now I'm at a lowered sens my aim feels "secure"

    Am I the only one that thinks Phoenix flash should give a chance for the opposing side to have a chance to destroy it? Although it may be hard but, just my 2 cents i would like a chance to try and shoot it.. to destroy it if possible. although it may be hard to aim at it so quickly but atleast gives u a chance to counter it some how.. Or does it not take effect if you just turn around? havent tried turning around yet

    This was really informative! My issues is that even if I take what I feel are the right peeks, my reaction time/aim just makes me die anyways hahaha. UGH.

      make sure your mouse sensitivity is right and that your ping isnt that high, I'd say above 100ms gives you a clear disadvantage

      It´s kind of the same for me I almost never win duels but with a little bit of ability use and hitting people of the back because of info and positioning I cheese some kills and end up second in the scoreboard. Try playing 5 stacks, having confidence in your mates makes it easier to hold an angle because you know thata there is someone covering the others. Also, try not being the entry fragger, play in the back and follow up.

      @@signetta6191 you can train reaction time by doing things like Human Benchmark's reaction test. granted it's not 100% accurate because of input delay but you'll get a good idea of where you're at. I'm sure you could knock your times down by using that tool.

      I have bad reaction times. I see someone so then I have to process that they are there, aim, and shoot and they somehow kill me instantly. I also get shot through walls somehow, even though walls are for cover. They might be hacking.
