EXO is the only kpop groups that still maintaining the same concept since pre-debut. All their mvs, teasers and concert vcr are connected to each other.
So this is the introduction
The name EXO comes from the word Exoplanet, which means a planet orbiting outside the solar system. EXO's official overall concept is that all the members are aliens from Exoplanet, and have superpowers.

EXO debuted with 12 members with different super powers and comprised of 2 sub-units, with 6 members each: Exo-K (singing in Korean) and Exo-M (singing in Mandarin aka Chinese).

In EXO discographies, you'll see a lot of red colors especially red cube. Actually that's Red Force (the antagonist character)
So this is the simple explanation to understand every EXO mvs, this is not in order or full storyline, just a simple explanation of their mvs
- many people said that EXO lost their super power so they fight Red Force without super power, together (Love Me Right mv)
- you'll see EXO trying to runaway and caught by someone because they're in weak conditions (Monster & Lotto mvs, patchcode teaser)
- Red Force caught the members and did an experiment on them (Lucky One mv)
- once they got their super power back they couldn't control its (Kokobop mv) and overused its (overdose mv) make them turn into wolf (Wolf and Growl mvs).
- Because of the experiment that have been done on them, Red Force create their clone, X-EXO or we could say the alter ego of EXO (obsession mv) so they have to fight their alter ego.
Even though MAMA is their debut song but we believe MAMA mv is the ending of EXO storyline because they fight Red Force with their full super power (Power mv too)
The full story is much more complex like how baekhyun become double agent, Lay hiding somewhere and may rescue EXO members one day, the parallel universe, bla... bla... and you need to spent a lot of time just to understand them and that's what we do since the past 9 years since EXO first pre-debut teaser released on 2011. The story is still on going and I think it will end once EXO contract with SM ent. end.
Because of their concept, every single date of EXO's MV releases are on the date of past or future solar eclipse (you can check it by yourself) and you'll see solar eclipse in some of their mvs and teasers.
The official colors of EXO fandom is cosmic latte, the colors of the universe and the other name of EXO-L (EXO fandom) is "Star". So every single of us are stars in cosmic latte.
btw EXO is Lee Soo Man (SM ent. founder and director) long plan project, some fans discovered "EXO" name at SM ent. building on 2006 and fans found an evidence that LSM had been planning EXO since 1976.
"In 1976, the South Korean military responded to 12 UFOs that were spotted in Seoul, Lee Soo Man interrupted the Radio show he was hosting at the time to report the news of these mysterious objects"

Tbh Exo is really a unique group of kpop because their songs is different than any kpop songs and I think exo is the only kpop group that have acapella section in their song maybe? and their vocals are no joke! They have best vocalist in kpop such as D.O, Baekhyun and Chen, if you don't trust me I think you should watch ' Exo amazing vocals' you'll lose your mind, i don't lie. They also have storyline in their music videos, those music videos are related to each other and every music video have a different logos which is unique to me bcs there's no group do it like exo. NO ONE can resist EXO's charms...They are always classy, elegant, well-mannered, and humble. Truly EXO deserves the title "Nation's pick" and "the Kings of Kpop". IM SO PROUD OF EXO.

So, EXO has a concept/storyline since PRE debut. It‘s really complex and detail oriented. All EXO MV‘s are beautiful and all that but behind every little thing, really, behind the littlest things there is a meaning. And behind every MV is probably a long story but you can only make theories, since it‘s hard to connect all MV‘s. I‘m just amazed by the fact that TEMPO basically just takes place in one location, a cube with 4 rooms, and yet it tells a story and has SO many details that are beautifully done (aesthetically & storywise). Most people, even EXO-L‘s, probably even missed a lot of stuff going on in this MV (and in other ones). But not only the Music video but also the song is a masterpiece. There are 9 of them! Not 8 :( Lay can't participate because he's the only Chinese member left and because of the political tension between China and South Korea he can't promote anything K-related, but he's still a part of EXO (He doesn't have any lines in the Korean version of the song, but he does in the Chinese one, the MV is a bit different too). Oh and yes, there are only 6 of them in 'Obsession' (I see that it's going to be your next reaction), but that's because they are at the age of mandatory military service. 2 of them (Xiumin and D.O.) should be back until the end of January 2021 and the leader, Suho is going to enlist on May 14th. He has a solo album you should check out though :D
It's hard to explain the concept that EXO has really, it's quite complicated and it started before their debut in 2012 AND no one really knows exactly what is what, because everything is connected, their concert VCRs, trailers and MVs.
The themes that are very common in their MVs are:
cubes
superpowers (I'll elaborate on that later)
flowers
moon/eclipse
color red
and masks (unmasking/taking them off, in 'Tempo' it was taking off the helmet)
Hopefully I didn't forget anything...
Anyway, before I get to the story, you need to know that they debuted as a 12 member group that was split into two sub groups. EXO-K was singing in Korean and EXO-M was singing in Mandarin and promoted in China (2 Korean and 4 Chinese members - 3 Chinese members left around 2014/2015).
They are aliens from the EXOplanet that have superpowers and came to Earth to protect the Tree Of Life from the Red Force (hence there is a lot of red color in their MVs). They were split when they arrived and will succeed only when reunited.
As the story progresses one of the theories is is that they lost their powers at some point (or didn't want to use them) were captured by the Red Force and cloned, they escaped, were trying out their powers and in 'Obsession' they are fighting their evil selves. Oh and some MVs happen in different dimensions too (not to make it more complicated or anything :P)

Hey Sammy, thanks for trying Exo out. They've been around for 10 years, and debuted a year before Bts. They are a vocal group where as Bts is rap heavy, but Bts rocks. That's what I love about Kpop, so much talent and variety.
Exo started with 12 members but are now down to 9. Two members are currently doing their mandatory military duty required of all korean men by the age of 30 or close to 30. So Exo is broken up at the moment, and one more member leaves on May 14th.

It it with 6 members, and it tells of the evil clones of Exo fighting the good Exo. So the colorful guys are the evil ones. Moral: fighting the evil within themselves.
