To end the arguments: Kira has plot armor. Amuro doesn't. Kira lived because BS. Amuro died, because even though he is superhuman, he isn't fucking invincible because BS.
Actually, Gundam SEED Destiny, as in its TV interpretation, doesn't fall within either Real Robots or Super Robots as defined by the SRW series. It falls within what we commonly dub "Invincible Robots", which is a genre that bore its viewers to hell by demonstrating a Musou game in an anime. The sole reason that I suggest the Super Robot genre is that the genre is close to the Invincible AKA Musou genre, yet can actually be fun to watch.

What makes you think that's auto-lock? That's kinda like saying Jehuty has auto-lock for its Dash Shot. The DRAGOONs still have to be manipulated using quantum brainwaves. That HUD is simply for him to decide who he wants to target. Kira had no problem using his weapons. Amuro on the other hand, screwed up on that and ended up losing Kayra as a result. I also seem to recall that Amuro's funnels can create a barrier that covers all angles.
Amuro is the one piloting a machine that borders on super robot more than any of MS in SEED making exaggerated poses just to motion to attack. The Nu Gundam was made to respond to the thoughts of its pilot and with the Psycoframe, could do the impossible. Not sure how you find that more believable than the machine that can't use its attack drones in the atmosphere, thus limiting its attack options. And last I checked, railguns aren't beam weapons
Don't say SEED Destiny has its invincible moment at the end like it didn't happen from the very beginning. Ever since the reintroduction of Kira Yamato the show became a complete Musou ripoff trainwreck. Enjoying it? Even porn has better plot than SEED Destiny, so no thanks.

I actually argue he's a better shot than most pilots since he aims to disable instead of to kill. Manipulating eight remote weapons mentally to disable targets isn't an easy feat.
