@cheatbluevii9123 well said. I really do want Cory to keep going! We all start somewhere, and I know he has the potential to really make a Smashing Manga
Although I enjoyed what I read (over the years I've alot of generic manga, and comparing this to some of them I'd say it's a cut above especially since cory himself a first time author), I actually think think all your points were valid. I do have hope that as time goes on the story will improve and come into it's own. Cause as of rn it does feel similar to shounen manga like Kaiju 8 and My hero academia (I like those series too and I know some story's can have a similar start but I hope Cory doesn't lean too much into that).
Generic and uninspired are 2 different things. Generic doesn't always mean bad, black clover and mha Academia are VERY generic for Shonen. Its obvious neither of them would exist without naruto etc. They wear there inspirations on their sleeve and theres nothing wrong with that. Just cause something uses an existing formula doesnt make it lazy. That being said..... the book is 7.5/10 tho..... good but not exactly great (yet)
W Video, I am about to release a review over MWM myself that only points out good things but I will say that your video gave a good insight on some flaws about the vol. 1. Since MWM is very new I kinda expected the characters to be flat out as there could be more plot fleshed around some characters and their backstories. This Volume we got a good understanding of Jabari and what his motives and flaws are and the next book might do the same for other characters. You werent lying about alicent tho the artist did seem to like to draw her the most and we even get a small little glimpse into her life that she might have a perfectionist mom. Cory did a good job with this being his first comic (7/10) and I think Vol 2 is going to be the decider if it's going in the right path (for me at least).
@altia117 appreciate it! I look forward to your video (Just Sub). And you're right, who knows? Volume 2 could just change up everything for the better. The story isn't finished after all
This review is all right.I guess there are some stuff I disagree with. Like honestly, I think jabari and September designs are the most interesting. While the other 3 are, the more generic ones and i'm glad this is his final design. Because the design you preferred, i'm sorry, that 1 looks generic. Also, some of the comparisons you make are kinda weird like saying. Jabari's a mixture of static shock and miles Morales. Was that a bad thing? Because that honestly sounds really cool and comparing it to Avatar? And the boondocks doesn't really sound like a bad thing. Sorry. This was so long and hope this didn't come across. It's rude but I just want to get all of this off my chest
@kingj9664 Not at all. I appreciate the feedback. As for the comparison with Static Shock and Miles morales, it was a comparison to show just that there is really nothing new with Jabari's character. It just so happens to be another generic Black protagonist with emphasis on swagger. Which is noting wrong with that, but I am tired of seeing that over and over again with characters of his type. Also, on the comparison with boondocks and Avatar. Monsters we make doesn't necessarily look like a Japanese manga. Sure, it has its influence on it. But I can tell it's American made. Which could either make or break a comic you are trying to market as a Manga.
@TimsSketchVault honestly, something being generic isn't inherently a bad thing. I mean, look, it's say characters like monkey d luffy and madoria, which is what i've seen with people who actually do like jabari. Plus given the fact that Corey is a black man and a lot of the people working on monsters, we make are also black. Sorry, dude, we're gonna put our blackness in a character. For the most part, it seems to be making it because a lot of people have been buying this book and enjoy it. Anyway, thanks again for the reply and hope you have a good new year
Haven't readed the Manga so I cant give a review on the manga but in my opinion on the character desgins I like Jabari final desgin more then the first one just my opinion tho
@kingj9664 Appreciate the support! Yeah, I'll admit I 100% could have gone into more details on some of the points I was trying to make. But at the same time, I didn't feel like it was necessary as the characters I felt though, were a bit shallow. I think the book is great for someone that's like 10 - 12 years old and is maybe just getting into the anime/manga space. But as a whole I think it's average at best.
There will be people who love it, people who like it, people who hate it, and people who dislike it. No hard feelings.

@milesharris249 But don't expect your series to be something New or special if you're just doing the same thing. It's good if you're like 12

If you like to watch funny, let's play some skids. Give his channel a watch if not at least give his manga a read for yourself

The Manga gets a 5.7/10. It's not great, but it's not dog shit. It's alright
