    Super useful video, Tony. When I first got my EOS R I had to play with the auto focus settings (for video) a lot before I was happy. Playing around with the AF settings really is a top tip. Playing is learning. 🙂

    With all the screen tapping while recording, having the screen pivoted completely out (instead of being folded flat to the camera) as shown is a benefit because it keeps those taps from transferring to the camera.

    Great explanation! The bit on Servo AF was quite cool too as I know that that along with the focus triangles are some of the newer things in the R. Well described and edited and put together!

    Great stuff brother! Thanks for this help. Have you dabbled with back-button focusing? What are your thoughts on that?

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 4 роки тому

      I used to do it all the time with the 5DmarkIV. Now with the new focusing system, it doesn’t make as much sense. I have it set up on the EOS R but it basically focuses all the time regardless.

    • @linusnguyen727
      @linusnguyen727 4 роки тому

      Tony Mellinger So you do have it set up on the EOSR, but don’t make much use of it? Like on one of the custom modes or something? I found it helpful for action/sports, but not as much with other genres with the EOSR. The system is actually really impressive and “smart” (intuitive).

    Great tip that Movie Servo AF pause - thanks. One question though is continuous AF does it cause the IS system to run non stop (lens dependent of course) and so drain betteries?

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 4 роки тому +1

      Yea, one of my favorites! I’ll use the pause quite a bit actually. Once it’s in your workflow, you’ll love to have it right there. IS works when it needs to if it’s on. If the switch is on and it isn’t needed it’s just as if the switch is off. Shouldn’t affect battery life.

    Tony great video . I have one question . How can i focus the entire frame ? (infinity focus is the name ? ) Let's say i want to have focus in 3-4 objects in the same picture ? I heard you suggest bumping up the F stop . Any other suggestions ? For example in the frame with the plant and your dauhghter , can we have both objects in focus and not having a blury backround ? thank you in advance !

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 3 роки тому +2

      Yep! That’s the way. Get your f stop way up there. Like 20 🤣 another thing that helps is if you use a wide angle lens (24mm, 35mm) and you’re quite far from your subject. Then you could keep your fstop at like 5.6 or so. When I’m shooting real estate and want the whole room in focus I’ll shoot at 7.1. That seeems to be the sharpest for most lenses.

    @Tony Mellinger Im curious to know if those RF lenses are much quieter than the EF ones on the EOS R. Did you pickup the focus motor from your RF 24-105 lens with the Rode microphone mounted on the hot-shoe of the camera? I have only EF lenses and my Videomic Pro does pickup the focus motor audio when doing run & gun. BTW great video series! Thanks!

      Answered on your other comment, but I absolutely love the 24-105mm f4L

      How is your experience using epidemic sound?

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 4 роки тому

      Epidemic sound is pretty good. Everything has a “vlog music” slant to it. Hard to find a good variety, but it’s been getting better. Def worth the monthly subscription. I believe my link is a referral if you sign up 🤣👊🏼

    Is there any way to move histogram somewhere else on the screen? Coming from sony it doesnt feel right there:) but i like a lot everything else on eos r

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 3 роки тому

      I’m not sure if there is. One of the problems I had with Sony is their screens are so hard to see what’s actually in focus. I know on the r5/r6 you can choose the size of the histo, not sure you can move it.

    Would the motor focus of 35mm RF 1.8 Macro Lens affects the balance on the gimbal (ronin sc) as it moves back and forth ?

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 4 роки тому

      No, it moves so little And the motors are really strong. To put it in perspective, I’ll put zoom lenses like the 24-105 and 70-200 and adjust zoom without rebalancing the ronin sometimes.

    HOW is the video AF with Canon EF L lenses? Is it as good? Is it loud?

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 3 роки тому

      Do you mean on this camera? The AF is kind of dependent on the camera. It’s good on the R, it’s incredible on the R5/R6. The only lenses that I’ve noticed noise are the STM lenses. As far as using the adaptor, they are as good if not better than on native EF mount cameras.

      @@TonyMellinger Hi, yes I mean on the R. Particularly, can one hear the focus motor on video recordings with builtin mic or with shotgun mic mounted on top of the cam?

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger 3 роки тому +1

      Sorry, I missed your response. I almost always use a shotgun mic mounted on the top of the cam. The only time i can really hear the autofocus is with the EF 24mm IS STM. That is the loudest lens ever ha!
