The timings and dynamics would be very different but would like to see you go to GrandMaster with that kind of challenge. Anyone else think that would be entertaining?
Lyrical comment. By naming BC teleport a blink, Thermy revealed another hidden legend: there is one stalker captive in every BC, he is kept in special tank sedated and his cyberbrain rewired. Terrans wanted to officially aquire the blink tech from Protoss, but the templar archives were undergoing reinventarization, so they couldn't find a proper law for selling tech.
The best shot you had was when the Protoss went to attack your heavily guarded base at the top. You could’ve sandwiched the tempests between your static defence and BCs, but you decided to harass on the other side of the map instead. Good game, nonetheless.
Brilliant game. You are allowed medivacs in all your challenges. Maybe use medevac mine drops to snipe his observers? I don't know. It seems like you tried almost everything and it wasn't quite enough. Maybe you can look to challenge him again at some point. Great game. Much appreciated. If you added one or two Ravens, then that would give you vision and you could then take out his other observers. But of course that violates the rules unless you make a rule adjustment.
I remember watching a pro match a long while ago where the mass bc was the clear favorite. Tempests are a really good skirmish unit, and it seems like they have lots of damage, but after the first volley they have that massive cooldown time between the second set of shots. In that pro game, it was basically a question of when the bc's would jump on the tempests, and if they could recall away in time, even having a mothership just for the recall. That game was some time ago, and some specific details might've changed, but the unit abilities and roles are still the same. I can't help but think a similar strategy of just going with the mass bc and jumping on top would've been better. BC dps is massive between the yamato and the regular lasers, and with yamato being able to axe about a third to a half of the enemy fleet right off the bat (accounting for some bc loss in the cast time), they should win, and if the tempests have to run, the bc's do even better since they can fire while moving. In this game, the minerals used on widow mines and command centers probably could've been used to replenish the bc's , and you would've held a lot more map pressure. The tempests still would've reigned while warp was on cooldown, but they would've had to be very careful otherwise. In short, tempests always win the game of skirmishing, it's what they are made for, so the frontal engagement, when done correctly (such as via tp), is their number 1 counter. If the enemy starts to wise up and runs away at the first sight of the bc warp, start warping them in two groups as a sandwich, so they are engaged either way, but running straight on just bleeds away the BC's. Minimizing the amount of time you spend inside the tempest's range and outside your own range is the key to fighting them. Staying completely outside the tempests' range is one way, but then they get to dip in and out with poke, whittling you down over time. So the other option is to charge in, but that bleeds units and the tempests can just kite away anyway. So the only solution really is to out maneuver, or massively outgun them. Either mass vikings (not allowed here ofc) until you blot out the sun, or use strategy or abilities to outposition them so they can't run. In this challenge, that really only leaves BC TP. Widow mines are the absolute worst thing versus them, since it relies on an enemy making a massive misplay, with little guarantee of even cashing out if they do. It was worth a shot, especially at the end it was a lot of damage, but the unreliability of it is just bleeding resources overall. Even if losing multiple BC's in the engagement seems bad, it is far better to lose a few bc's and accomplish something (usually a fair bit with yamato), then to bleed the thousands of resources over a long time doing comparitively little. The little losses add up to far more, even if it doesn't feel like it. TL:DR BC TP is about your only reliable choice versus tempest play. TP right on top initially and spam yamato, then let the lasers do their work. If the enemy wisens up, start sandwiching with the TP so they can't run at the first sight of the warp. If they start working against that, position one group of BC's such that they don't need to warp and the tempests will run into them, and TP the other, then rotate as necessary to hunt them down.
I have a suggestion, how about long distance mining. there was sometimes in the game when a CC fly over to the new base opponent comes and kill it then wait some time to check the base again and during this interval all you can do is to fly a new CC over but as it landed, mine a little mineral the tempest came back and kill the new CC again. you can long distance mine with mules especially those bases are which consider enemy's bases. Wicked game man it was sick Sky Terran Vs Sky Toss
reflecting on the game, in this scenario where you rely on your teammate making a mistake in order to win. the only 2 strategies in your control that might be workable is maybe roll play a zerg, spend some of the bank on starports, get as good of but suicidal engagement as possible with the critical mass of tempests and remax. Or use the mobility of the battlecruiser in small but many groups attacking simultaniously constantly and reinforcing if needed with reinforcing teleport to dilute the tempest advantage and trading better with yamatos and he won't have the benefit of nexus recall, because there will be more hit squads than he has recalls. Just a theory but it does rely on matching the potential for mass tempest after scouting it, with sacrificing bank to building more production and treating battlecruisers more expendably to prevent critical mass and not allow the protoss to use the utility that they need to defend.
few months ago, i widow mined to death a guy, i always gonna remember that game. it finished on me killing all of his protoss fleet. i screamed ohhhh lol
I remember this move the computer used to do and brood War where would make Mass overlords and use it as like a flesh wall. I don't know maybe you could try a similar strategy with barracks.
Hey @uthermal, forgove my ignorance but wouldn't a Raven been a good idea to fly with your BCs on your side of the map? It can't teleport of course but would have saved a ton of scans for observers and DTs and you already had the starports with tech lab. Additionally, you would then know when your BCs had been spotted.
Hey guys, you know that Guardian unit from SC1? What if we changed it so it moved much faster, could also target air units _and_ recall... *I rarely complain about balance issues, but Tempests/skytoss simply is not balanced in high end play.* Tempest have more damage, more range, more speed _and_ can recall wich from a defensive pov completely negates the BC's warp ability. Yes this guy played perfectly, but he basically played checkers against your 3D chess, and was never even close to losing an encounter. *They are basically Siege Tanks, if Siege Tanks also targeted air units, could fly, move while sieged, had no minimum range or friendly fire **_and_** recall! Let the sink in and tell me I'm wrong ;)* Expect for observes he needed no other unit, he could just sit on a ball of Tempests and counter _anything_ uThermal threw at him, that is not good game design. It essentially has no weaknesses, unless you count glaring player mistakes as a weakness, but that goes away in pro play. They either needs to be the slowest units in the game, do considerably less damage, or get a minimum range... so that having 20 BC's warp on you would actually feel like a threat.
Finally someone showed Marc how annoying he is sometimes by being annoying to him :D Super fun video. Watched in one go even is I was not planning that long :)
This game made me wonder even more if Medivacs would be a good addition to this composition. The mines just move too slow to react to army movements and being able to pick them up and move them around would make it a lot harder to predict when they're gonna hit.
Marc, now that i've invested a million hours into your YT channels and essentially you've become a part of my day.. now you have to start doing my weird ideas.. because I stopped playing SC years ago.. plus also I now pretty much only watch you and sometimes Harstem(I love him too).. so you owe it to Winter, Lowki and others for stealing their sub. * Marc it bothers my brain, every single time I see a widow mine/group of widow mines go into a mineral line.. it feels like you should pre-bait by having another widow mine covertly placed to where they are OBVIOUSLY going to drag them away to.. feels like such easy logic.. and the memes alone would be worth it.. even if it doesn't work out.. i can already hear your little giggle.. then apologising to him and you feeling sorry for him.. hahahaa * I notice this with penguin boys etc.. they always group and drag them and there's a point where they are usually so juicy and clumped up and if there was something else there poking from the other end.. it would be BBQ city. * Another amusing thing i'd like to see, would be to covertly put a stack of widow mines into the empty part of the base.. then run in an empty medivac or with 1 widow in it as a bait/distraction.. they drag them away from the medivac and into your other widowmines and you move it in so they are looking at your medivac dropping over the real danger.. heisenberg build.. i am the danger. * then every now and then you can just drag one of these preinstalled widowmines(or.. banelings etc) into the mineral line * maybe similar to above, put randomly preinstalled widowmines in the hope when they expand into an area and then when units build they get insta popped.. i presume that wouldn't work for vs terran.. and you'd have to put them in lucky spots so they don't build the building on top of them..but yer - Call it Marcs War of the Worlds build.. that movie where the Earth was attacked by aliens.. but they were actually here all along. sike.. * engi bay - widowmines to snipe workers trying to build new bases, and above * engi bay - widowmines.. some kind of build that encourages an attack and then covertly places widowmines stealthily in the line of the expected backup, just dominating all reinforcements * engi bay - widowmines.. similar to above 'all your base are belong to us' build.. the entire production is swamped with widowmines..cannot get any reinforcements or build any troops * I'd like to see the above with liberators.. just literal liberators sitting on top of every production, then random medivac sacrifices onto stargates etc.. the you go first build.. where nobody wants to leave the barracks.. because they will get instantly evaporated by the liberator * wingman build, maveric build? so liberators (totally underused for comedic purposes).. you see people just doing 1 or 1 per mineral line etc.. i want to see lib range, starting from the corner in the mineral line moving out like a cancer.. you have 1 aimed at the mineral line, but then 2 or 3 others backing up that one, and then the numbers just keeps growing and pushing out..but you always need that 1-2 extra supporting so that they cant get free shots.. or like maybe there's a central one and all the liberators have to back it up. * my king build..chess build? designate a unit that must be built within a certain timeframe.. 5minutes? and that unit.. hmm. BC, thor? cannot die.. if it dies, your king dies and you have to quit.. but, you have to say something specific in the chat. * you sunk my battleship build.. build only battlecruisers and every time someone kills 1 of them, you have to type in chat.. you sunk my battleship.. to lower your APM and give them a chance to get on top of you * The mechanic build (medic style build), where you have a dedicated medivac of scv's that go with the force.. not to tank, cannot fight.. but when a thor or something gets low.. you move the thor to them..they heal it, you move it back. but they cant be a part of the fight.. definitely have to move to them and then come back with a fresh unit.. i thought only battlecruisers could teleport? * FOB build.. forward operating base.. you have to build a planetary with bunkers and missile towers (presumably other defensive items like libs and tanks) near the enemy base..or rather.. on the enemies 3rd??? * What about a bad neighbor build? Similar to penguin brothers stupid moving your base at the start (LOL).. you HAVE to take your first bases NEXT to the enemy, and work backwards. * If you need to grow another hand or second brain to achieve this.. I'm confident it will happen. * PS can you do a collab with Harstem? He's got great banter, I imagine he's quite funny to be around IRL. * Maybe a streamer Russian roulette game? maybe an ongoing series.. N-Counters? (n meaning a number..ie unlimited)Where one person is forced to do a specific build, and then the opponent has to build the best counter to it.. then they swap over and then the opponent has to do the specific build and do their version of a counter * Streamer Russian roulette game where you have certain parameters.. i dunno.. turtle, attack before 5 minutes, harrass with x, build x, do this build.. and both streamers are forced to do these builds picked by ai or random chance. * This post is way longer than it was supposed to be.. but SC2 despite being so old..is so much fun to watch lol.. * PPS yes, you can say my name in your next video.. shoutout to YT.. nah.. i usually go by bonestomp, but you can call be boner for short..

This was a fantastic game. Watched every minute.
That was a crazy game, props to the toss he was in the zone.
reflecting on the game, in this scenario where you rely on your teammate making a mistake in order to win. the only 2 strategies in your control that might be workable is maybe roll play a zerg, spend some of the bank on starports, get as good of but suicidal engagement as possible with the critical mass of tempests and remax.
How viable is loading Widow mines into medivacs, burning into Tempest and drop mines under them?
I've always thought mass tempest with some oracles could work. They made you look like an insane AI doing a set build. I hope Scarlett sees this. :P
Awesome gameplay man
Hey guys, you know that Guardian unit from SC1?
Let the sink in and tell me I'm wrong ;)*
Expect for observes he needed no other unit, he could just sit on a ball of Tempests and counter _anything_ uThermal threw at him, that is not good game design. It essentially has no weaknesses, unless you count glaring player mistakes as a weakness, but that goes away in pro play. They either needs to be the slowest units in the game, do considerably less damage, or get a minimum range... so that having 20 BC's warp on you would actually feel like a threat.
epic game! high-tier strategy and excellent moves from both sides right to the end!
What an amazing game! Incredible patience by the opponent!
That was a nice warm-up game, let's move for game number two.
Seriously though, what a game!
$50k to $104k OMFG 🤣🤣🤯🤯
Epic-Banger!
The best way to beat uThermal is to be nice to him!
A fun observation, if a sensor tower sees an observer, why cannot it give the coordinates to a widowmine, so you still have to scan?
Finally someone showed Marc how annoying he is sometimes by being annoying to him :D
Super fun video.
* Marc it bothers my brain, every single time I see a widow mine/group of widow mines go into a mineral line.. it feels like you should pre-bait by having another widow mine covertly placed to where they are OBVIOUSLY going to drag them away to.. feels like such easy logic.. and the memes alone would be worth it.. even if it doesn't work out.. i can already hear your little giggle.. then apologising to him and you feeling sorry for him.. hahahaa
* I notice this with penguin boys etc.. they always group and drag them and there's a point where they are usually so juicy and clumped up and if there was something else there poking from the other end.. it would be BBQ city.
* then every now and then you can just drag one of these preinstalled widowmines(or.. banelings etc) into the mineral line
* maybe similar to above, put randomly preinstalled widowmines in the hope when they expand into an area and then when units build they get insta popped.. i presume that wouldn't work for vs terran.. and you'd have to put them in lucky spots so they don't build the building on top of them..but yer
- Call it Marcs War of the Worlds build.. that movie where the Earth was attacked by aliens.. but they were actually here all along. sike..
* engi bay - widowmines to snipe workers trying to build new bases, and above
* engi bay - widowmines.. some kind of build that encourages an attack and then covertly places widowmines stealthily in the line of the expected backup, just dominating all reinforcements
* engi bay - widowmines.. similar to above 'all your base are belong to us' build.. the entire production is swamped with widowmines..cannot get any reinforcements or build any troops
* I'd like to see the above with liberators.. just literal liberators sitting on top of every production, then random medivac sacrifices onto stargates etc.. the you go first build.. where nobody wants to leave the barracks.. because they will get instantly evaporated by the liberator
* wingman build, maveric build? so liberators (totally underused for comedic purposes).. you see people just doing 1 or 1 per mineral line etc.. i want to see lib range, starting from the corner in the mineral line moving out like a cancer.. you have 1 aimed at the mineral line, but then 2 or 3 others backing up that one, and then the numbers just keeps growing and pushing out..but you always need that 1-2 extra supporting so that they cant get free shots.. or like maybe there's a central one and all the liberators have to back it up.
* my king build..chess build? designate a unit that must be built within a certain timeframe.. 5minutes? and that unit.. hmm. BC, thor? cannot die.. if it dies, your king dies and you have to quit.. but, you have to say something specific in the chat.
* you sunk my battleship build.. build only battlecruisers and every time someone kills 1 of them, you have to type in chat.. you sunk my battleship.. to lower your APM and give them a chance to get on top of you
* The mechanic build (medic style build), where you have a dedicated medivac of scv's that go with the force.. not to tank, cannot fight.. but when a thor or something gets low.. you move the thor to them..they heal it, you move it back. but they cant be a part of the fight.. definitely have to move to them and then come back with a fresh unit.. i thought only battlecruisers could teleport?
N-Counters? (n meaning a number..ie unlimited)Where one person is forced to do a specific build, and then the opponent has to build the best counter to it.. then they swap over and then the opponent has to do the specific build and do their version of a counter
* Streamer Russian roulette game where you have certain parameters.. i dunno.. turtle, attack before 5 minutes, harrass with x, build x, do this build.. and both streamers are forced to do these builds picked by ai or random chance.
* This post is way longer than it was supposed to be.. but SC2 despite being so old..is so much fun to watch lol..
* PPS yes, you can say my name in your next video.. shoutout to YT.. nah.. i usually go by bonestomp, but you can call be boner for short..
Watched til the end... Uthermal endurance badge achieved
Thanks for not spamming ads. ❤
epic game, nothing crazy about watching in full^^
