Hi Everyone! My name is John Simmerman, and I’m a health promotion and public health professional with over 30 years of experience. Over the years, my area of concentration has evolved into a specialization in how the built environment influences human behavior related to active living and especially active mobility.
Since 2010, I've been exploring, documenting, and profiling established, emerging, and aspiring Active Towns wherever they might be while striving to produce high-quality multimedia content to help inspire the creation of more safe and inviting, environments that promote a "Culture of Activity" for "All Ages & Abilities."
The Active Towns Channel features my original video content and reflections, including a selection of podcast episodes and short films profiling the positive and inspiring efforts happening around the world as I am able to experience and document them.

The world could be a totally different place. How wonderful to see all these amazing people embracing change. I hope to see more of these events worldwide in next few years. Congratulations to the organisers and those that took part well done.

Any day riding a bike is a good day… with 2,000+ friends, even better! 😀

Hey, it's my home city 😁.
Cycling has always be a big deal here but the last couple of years infrastructure has gotten much better.

Wow so many big names :D
I remember seeing my first Ghent FIETSSTRAAT in a Street Film video.
@02:00 Very creative bridge at an unusual location
@03:40 Bikes on a freeway make no sound. Imagine that.
@07:21 Riding in old city centres, love it
@12:00 Such a nice variety of rider, so nice to see.
@13:00 I'm jealous of these gigantic bike parkings!

Nice contrast today with the Tour de Ghent, for all ages and abilities, and the Tour de France, where I saw no hand-propelled wheel-chair bikes.

Hehe, 🤣 Well, they are two completely different events. My motto is, if you're riding your bike you're doing it right. Just enjoy the ride.

@@ActiveTownsI've followed the Tour de France for decades. One of my students is the sister of a French champion. The Tour inspires me to do challenging rides. My gripe, at least with the French media coverage, which is superb in many ways, is that they fail to make the necessary connections that could make the Tour encourage average people to ride a bike. The good news is that Mayor Anne Hidalgo teamed up with Tour stage winner Peter Sagan, collaborating with him as Goodwill Ambassador for Cycling Cities. Tour organizers could have done this on their own but it didn't occur to them.

Meanwhile in the USA, the only bike parade I've heard of was in South Park.😆😂
