But wait, I thought Pierre Sprey said the "F-35 can't turn, can't climb and can't run." These so-called experts are dead wrong. This looks like a formidable plane.
It doesn't even have to be maneuverable, as it is designed to hit any enemy aircraft with missiles from a great distance; plus, it is packed with secret technology, such as being able to shut off an enemy aircraft, letting it fall to the ground. Also, it can shut off any ground missile batteries and their radar. Actually, American versions of the F-16 is all that is needed to clear the sky of Soviet Russian and Chinese aircraft.
Pierre Sprey and the fighter mafia have lost their credibility a long time ago. The F-16 was genius for its time, but everything these fighter mafia/A-10/F-16 simps say is juat dead wrong. This video proves its kinematic and aerodynamic performance, all models can hit 9G (although B/C are locked to prolong airframe lifetime, but they can be unlocked when shit hits the fan) and situational awareness and weapon availability/compatibility is unheard of. Yeah, the development was rocky and expensive, but it's currently the absolute best fighter you can get for the price.
Newly developed jet fighters go thru a troubled start and then go on to exalted performing status. The F 111 Aardvark is a prime example. The F 35 is a very complex system. It flies. Pilots are beginning to sit in the seat and dance with it, $400,000 helmet and all.
The instantaneous turn is incredible, but what really belies its power is the fact it's then able to accelerate into the vertical. Being able to do that after losing so much energy is (almost) unheard of. As good as it is, no combat configured F-16 would be capable of such a feat. This pretty much seals it: Any adversary lucky enough to survive the BVR AMRAAM solvo will die WVR/dogfighting the F-35. At several points in the display, you can see its Raptor genes at work!
Very interesting observation, yes the su-35 would still be able to accelerate vertically even with external weapons obviously because of the large wing load area and thrust vectoring and ridiculous thrust-to-weight ratio, however block 70 F-16 which would certainly punch off 360 gallon fuel tanks can accelerate up but they don't have thrust vectoring ,so often times like many things itis just going to come down to Pilot skill overcomes technology
As you can see when looking from underneath or above the aircraft how wide the fuselage is despite having small wings. It has enough surface area to be maneuverable. Its tails might look small because it's at an angle and it's actually bigger than it looks. We have to remember that part of stealth aircraft design do not have 90 degree angles.
I went to an air show in south Texas and saw one of these performing. They said it was doing a fraction of what they considered combat maneuvering and power and still the pilot pulled 9G turns multiple times in the show
I've seen the Dutch F-35A demo a few years back. Was very impressive. And I am 100% sure no F-35 demo will show its true capabilities but only part of it.
It's multi role fighter...in real war its not a airshow the f35 will have no problem handle itself..so far in mock air battles against f16 and f18 a 81:1 kill ratio..👍good for me.
@@CrayonEater255 I used to work on the F-16´s flight control system. It can pull 9G under some circumstances. Si can the F-22. The F-16 has shown this 1000´s of times during airshows & trainingruns which has been recorded & shown to the public. You can NOT alter the 9G unless in the very old models where the Israelis replaced a resistor & this made the old block 5-10´s capable of pulling 10.5G with enourmous stress on the airframe as a very high cost to pay & in IRL no pilot can take this load reliable every time & risk killing themself from blackouts. Why should F-22 be different? Its rated at 9 & has often been shown pulling 9G in airshows during prolonged periods of time. Forget about F-35 beeing a fighter. Its a remote weapons dispersal platform with some stealth capability & are quite manouverable compared to som of the heavy russian 70´s planes. But a dogfighter? No & in never will be and neither has ever been planned to be. It can do a lot but its not excellent at anything, way to multipurpose for this....& insanely expensive to operate on top of that.
Love watching the turbulence coming off the aircraft. The stresses on the airframe must be enormous on the tight radius turns. Also watching that vertical climb then going inverted. Wow!
Brakes like instantly facing vertical at mach .9 without chaning altitude letting the sonic booms agains the fuselage slow you down. this plane is ridiculous.
I live by Luke AFB and hear these pass over all the time. The difference between the F35 and the F16 is night and day. When a F16 passes by, you can barely hear it when inside. When the F35 passes, you hear and feel it. The difference is amazing! The 35 sounds like a beast.
They are phenomenal. We had one go vertical over my house at 400kts, from 500ft last year. It’s the loudest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. It goes straight through you.
Yep , it plays Yankee Doodle Dandy at 2,700 decibels . it's so loud things just explode from resonant sound vibration . It instantly liquefies the human body .
This video definitely wipes some doubts off about this fighter's dogfight capabilities, very impressive. And I agree with those who believe that they don't reveal its full aerial capabilities.
@@phbrinsden it is a dogfighter by design. You just have the BS propaganda that all the news outlets ate up like a starved rat. It was designed to be a superior platform in all performance aspects of both the F-16 and Hornet as the 5th Gen Multirole fighter platform. F-16 and hornets are also multirole fighters (air to air, air to ground), but the F-35 dials it up past 11
I hear them every day. I live 6 miles away from Luke afb and you can always tell when they are taking off. When they hit afterburner you can definitely feel the ground shake 6 miles away.
The F35 certainly has a significant role to play and is no doubt, a "push over". That being said, it is my opinion that the F22 is still superior. Allow me to explain... because the F35 is a multinational military project that involves other allied nations, it's my opinion that because it involves other countries (who will also be flying the aircraft), I do not see the U.S. putting all of it's most top secret advanced technologies in to this aircraft. Although it will perform (flight abilities) the same, I think each country will have their own system programs, radars, weapons systems, etc... If they did, that would mean that the other countries who will be using this aircraft will now have those same technologies as well. Although they are allies, I can't see them taking any chances at losing those technologies to our adversaries, let alone losing the technological and tactical edge that we may have. Maybe I am wrong...what say you?
Bob Loblaw those people are just ignorant idiots that continue to deny that the f-35 is a beast. They look for every way to trash it and base it off of lies like the media. They think they know everything about the plane even though the government clearly hasn’t shown is full capabilities. They act like the government is stupid and doesn’t know what they’re doing even thought they themselves are not even experts on this type of stuff.
Same here bud, Every day they fly directly over my house. My kids love it. I think Tuesday we are going to watch them by Litchfield and northern. Usually a decent crowd out there.
The F-35 is an absolute monster . So many people out there don't realize the growing pains of any fighter program . Just look at the F-16 that thing was called the lawn dart for quite a while . The f-14 was a hanger queen . The point is all the great fighters have had their development issues .
Yeah, but most of those development issues were ironed out BEFORE the government contracts were signed. Lockheed Martin made multi-BILLION dollar suckers out of Congress and had the taxpayers pay for an incomplete design.
Looooool. Expensive Air Trash , i would say! T-50, even the Eurofighter Typhoon is a much better Jet, older cheaper and better with more weapon capacity! Us is a Joke
Hekt0r Bod3gas How about you read you read up technological specifications and read about the plane now, and then get back to me;) LOL the EuroCuck Typhoon wouldn’t even bring down the F-15
@@braydenbronstein1190 lol, in a Simulation the F35 sucked against the eurofighter..only for the Record. Maybe you should learn something; } But you are right , the statistics are in favorite* to the f35. Only cuz the eurofighter is so Tiny , its like Stealth onthe Radar even with the F35, you only See a pigeon on Radar ;) We have to differentiate it, cause the eurofighter is Kind a like a dogfight Jet and the f35 has more capabilities for air-to-Ground war! Sry i got heated , but for Real, both Jets are even. But, compared to the Russian Jets, no One can compare... (Sry for my Bad Englisch, im european)
I can only imagine a squadron of F15X in full load out combined with a few F35's to guide them and some F22's at high altitude providing cover for both. Scary thought! Also I really hope we let Japan develop the F3 which is a F22 with all the F35 electronics and sensor suite. They eat the cost of getting it developed and up and running and then both militaries can utilize the jet at a much lower overall cost to the US. It would keep the F22 up to date until the 6th gen stuff is up and running.
Actually, both ideas are good, a mixed squadron of F35's, F15's, and F22's to maximize their strengths, and develop a new F22 with the electronics of the F35. I like it a lot.
From 25403-u-s-air-force-orders-eight-pre-production-boeing-f-15ex-fighters _With redesigned lines and special radar-absorbent paint, the fighter jet will see its radar signature reduced, allowing it to carry out air defense, close air support, and deep penetration missions. While not up to par with the 5th generation of fighter jets, it will be able to assist the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II in its missions. “The F-15EX is the most affordable and immediate way to refresh the capacity and update the capabilities provided by our aging F-15C/D fleets,” explained General Mike Holmes, commander of Air Combat Command._ ------- Notice F-15EX has "redesigned lines and special radar-absorbent paint, the fighter jet will see its radar signature reduced"
Jpm King Not an accurate comment at all. If you did some research you would find one instance, but that was when it was in testing phases and a particular system was being checked. The F-35 at that time was even cleared for performing at its full potential. Since then the F-35 has been kicking ass, including against the Viper.
Jpm King Search here on UA-cam for “F-35 pilot interview; why the F-35 lost to the F-16”, and go to the 5:25 mark, and you will find that it was a single test point, not a DACT exercise. I am sure you’ve read about how it dominated at Red Flag back in February. It went up against Aggressor squadrons that have both F-15 and 16’s and came out with a 20:1 kill rate, which is phenomenal for a multirole aircraft.
Jpm King People need to stop bringing this article up. It is old, outdated news. The dogfight was a very early test of basic flight maneuvers and the F-35 was more limited than it is now. Please refer to the post above where 31 pilots praise the Lightning and would take it over any other plane in combat. I would also like to add something. In a war (God forbid) it would not be the US sending planes up one at a time to face Single enemy pilots in 1 v 1 combat. The US , because of far better information gathering ability will dictate the terms of combat. Swarms of F-35s, Vipers, Eagles and Raptors will be fighting in unison. Add to that the Navy and Marines with SuperHornets, Hornets, Growlers and a few Lightnings and you have a force that would not be defeated. US would gain air superiority very quickly.
@@joeo754 Well, it's multirole, but could definitely be an air superiority fighter. It's logistics and avionics are an order of magnitude greater than any other jet. Imagine that on an F-22.
Those who don't know maneuvers like that generate so much g-force it would normally knock someone out. That's why you have to be genetically superior in almost every way to be a fighter pilot.
Shejt Big difference is that those Russian aircraft have thrust vectoring and most are just showbirds not ready for combat. Most of Russia’s Air Force comprises of aircraft without thrust vectoring, and you won’t find any performing at this level. A good example is to look at the Russian Knights , which are combat ready Su-27’s,and they don’t do anything near what you’ll find the F-35 performing here in this video.
Just a few Russian demo jets. This thing is already in service with many air forces worldwide in three main configurations. Big difference. You have to have real operational squadrons to have any significance.
Who wrote the articles? Here is what an F-16 pilot that has 2,200 hours in the F-16 says about the comparison. Kampflybloggen (The Combat Aircraft Blog), the official blog of the Norwegian F-35 Program Office within the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, published an interesting article, written by Major Morten “Dolby” Hanche, one of the Royal Norwegian Air Force experienced pilots and the first to fly the F-35. “Dolby” has more than 2200 hours in the F-16, he is a U.S. Navy Test Pilot School graduate, and currently serves as an instructor and as the Assistant Weapons Officer with the 62nd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. He provides a first-hand account of what dogfighting in the F-35 looks like to a pilot who has a significant experience with the F-16. His conclusions are worth a read. The F-35 in a dogfight - what have I learned so far? I now have several sorties behind me in the F-35 where the mission has been to train within visual range combat one-on-one, or «Basic Fighter Maneuvers» (BFM). In a previous post I wrote about aerial combat in general, and about the likelihood that the F-35 would ever end up in such a situation. In this post, however, I write more specifically about my experiences with the F-35 when it does end up in a dogfight. Again, I use the F-16 as my reference. As an F-35-user I still have a lot to learn, but I am left with several impressions. For now, my conclusion is that this is an airplane that allows me to be more forward and aggressive than I could ever be in an F-16. A typical training setup begins at a distance of one, two or three kilometers from the attacker to the defender. The minimum distance is 300 meters. That kind of restriction may seem conservative, but 300 meters disappear quickly in a combat aircraft. Starting at different distances allows us to vary the focus of each engagement. Greater distance means more energy, higher g-loads and often ends in a prolonged engagement. A short distance usually means that the main objective is to practice gun engagements, either attacking or defending. As the offensive part, the training objective is to exploit every opportunity to kill your opponent with all available weapons - both missiles and guns - while maneuvering towards a stable position behind the opponent. From this control position, it is possible to effectively employ both missiles and the gun, without the opponent being able to evade or return fire. So how does the F-35 behave in a dogfight? The offensive role feels somewhat different from what I am used to with the F-16. In the F-16, I had to be more patient than in the F-35, before pointing my nose at my opponent to employ weapons; pointing my nose and employing, before being safely established in the control position, would often lead to a role reversal, where the offensive became the defensive part. The F-35 provides me as a pilot greater authority to point the nose of the airplane where I desire. (The F-35 is capable of significantly higher Angle of Attack (AOA) than the F-16. The angle of attack describes the angle between the longitudinal axis of the plane - where the nose is pointing - and where the aircraft is actually heading - the vector). This improved ability to point at my opponent enables me to deliver weapons earlier than I am used to with the F-16, it forces my opponent to react even more defensively, and it gives me the ability to reduce the airspeed quicker than in the F-16. Update: Since I first wrote this post, I have flown additional sorties where I tried an even more aggressive approach to the control position - more aggressive than I thought possible. It worked just fine. The F-35 sticks on like glue, and it is very difficult for the defender to escape. It may be difficult to understand why a fighter should be able to «brake» quickly. In the offensive role, this becomes important whenever I point my nose at an opponent who turns towards me. This results in a rapidly decreasing distance between our two airplanes. Being able to slow down quicker provides me the opportunity to maintain my nose pointed towards my opponent longer, thus allowing more opportunities to employ weapons, before the distance decreases so much that a role reversal takes place. To sum it up, my experience so far is that the F-35 makes it easier for me to maintain the offensive role, and it provides me more opportunities to effectively employ weapons against my opponent. In the defensive role, the same characteristics are valuable. I can whip the airplane around in a reactive maneuver while slowing down. The F-35 can actually slow down quicker than you´d be able to emergency brake your car. This is important because my opponent has to react to me stopping or risk ending up in a role-reversal where he flies past me. (Same principle as many would have seen in Top Gun; hit the brakes, and he’ll fly right by. But me quoting Top Gun does not make the movie a documentary). Defensive situations often result in high AOA and low airspeeds. At high AOA the F-16 reacts slowly when I move the stick sideways to roll the airplane. The best comparison I can think of is being at the helm of a ship (without me really knowing what I am talking about - I’m not a sailor). Yet another quality of the F-35 becomes evident in this flight regime; using the rudder pedals I can command the nose of the airplane from side to side. The F-35 reacts quicker to my pedal inputs than the F-16 would at its maximum AOA (the F-16 would actually be out of control at this AOA). This gives me an alternate way of pointing the airplane where I need it to, in order to threaten an opponent. This pedal turn yields an impressive turn rate, even at low airspeeds. In a defensive situation, the pedal turn provides me the ability to rapidly neutralize a situation, or perhaps even reverse the roles entirely. I would like to highlight how the F-35 feels in the air. I am impressed with the stability and predictability of the airplane. Particularly at high AOA and low airspeeds. It is a peculiar feeling to be flying the F-35 at high AOA. I can pull the nose up to where my feet sit on the horizon and still maintain a level altitude. I’m also impressed by how quickly the F-35 accelerates when I reduce the AOA. High AOA produces lots of lift, but also tremendous induced drag. When I break the AOA, it is evident that the F-35 has a powerful engine. The F-35 also makes a particular sound at this point. When I quickly reduce the AOA - stick full forward - I can hear clearly, even inside the cockpit how the F-35 howls! It seems like the howling is a mix of airflow over the wings and a different kind of noise from the engine. Maybe this isn’t all that relevant, but I still think it´s a funny observation. Another aspect is the kind of reaction I get when I push the stick forward; the F-35 reacts immediately, and not delayed like the F-16. Looking at another F-35 doing such maneuvers is an impressive sight. The various control surfaces on the airplane are large, and they move very quickly. I can monitor these movements on the screens in my cockpit, and I´m fascinated by how the control surfaces move when I manipulate the stick and pedals. Especially at high AOA, it is not always intuitive what control surfaces move, and by how much. theaviationist.com/2016/03/01/heres-what-ive-learned-so-far-dogfighting-in-the-f-35-a-jsf-pilot-first-hand-account/
Tokyo drifting a jet is just as useless as tokyo drifting a car. This demo proves nothing in its fighter jet capabilities, only that its a good show plane.
@@pluto8404 Completely agree. I do however love watching fighter aircraft being flown at low speeds at high aoa's. I would also say that there are very rare situations in a dogfight that a wacky high aoa maneuver might be applicable.
@@CptTierOps12 It has maneuverability, but it's no dogfighter. It's purely air to ground. More of a replacement for F18's I think, as they're planned to become the most carrier based/launched aircraft on the new Ford Class Carriers.
F35 is an attack aircraft... It's the new version of the f117 more or less... F16 is designed as an air to air fighter the f22 is more of a replacement for that then the f35
@Blob B stealth is equal... The f22 is more of a true fighter aircraft then the f35 but just like the f35 can do air to air combat the f22 can do strike missions on the ground as well... There both a multi roll airframe but they just do 1 a little better then the other...
lol.. i just about to say the same.. that s cool maneuver.. but those are not STOVL i guess.. STOVL required the engine located behind the cockpit to flip downward, but i didn't see any burner came out from that area.. correct me if i wrong.
We have 9 different squadron's here in Las Vegas. Nellis AFB. Including the THUNDERBIRDS. When they have the "RED FLAG" training you can see all these photographers on Las Vegas boulevard. Getting their best shots. Noisy days for sure. GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY!
As someone who flew the earlier F35s I can say it is an amazing aircraft. It’s the internet. I can be and say anything I want. Which means so can ANYONE else.
These Guys and Girls are the best of the best, they all deserve a big fat raise. When I have to fly anywhere, I always have a greater sense of comfort if the pilot is ex military or in the active reserves.
THE F - 35 and US modern aircraft tech is not only redefining the term aircraft but its changing how basic requirements of flight like lift that define what makes an aircraft an aircraft and introduce cutting edge game changing tech like thrust vectoring and on board Ai paired with the quality of pilots and services only the US is willing to produce is absolutely amazing. Not only is it a compliment to human innovation(whether the knowledge is off this world or not) but also a compliment to american dedication and pursuit to achieve the highest of quality products that get produced that represent what standards we hold when it comes to anything else. For future designers and mechanical engineering personnel let this be a beacon of inspiration to always strive to get better even if youre already at the pinnacle of standards. Not to mention its just awsome to watch something defy the laws of physics lol
All jets since almost the beginning of military aviation supersede the pilot's fisiological capabilities. Furthermore, the flux of data can be overwhelming and impossible to digest, and this is where the F-35 is superior, a quantum leap in software that displays the necessary data at the optimal time to effectively and successfully complete the mission.
There are ways around the g forces these aircraft are capable of without the need for dangerous technology such as AI, but I’m not giving the spy’s anything
Enthusiasts and those in the know are well aware what the 35 is capable of... Our enemies have a nasty rude awakening in store underestimating this rocket...
Ya'll got something better Juan? It isn't all about the plane, USAF and USN pilots are the best in the world because they train to be just that. I prefer to have enemies that underestimate the USA.
@@Mr20Muleteam yes, I can got something better, but i just was watching a video of another plane of a nation that think the whole world is her enemy because America (U.S.A.) is greater, fastest, strongest, and all the "est". I'll be one of the few to mention this, but here were go. Nothing in this video was "jaw-dropping". It was pretty much standard airshow stuff (for most fighters these days) with some thrust vectoring AT LOWER velocities being added. Am I the biggest F-35 fan? No, but the F-35 is an engineering marvel. I've seen the X-31 in flight. That was jaw dropping. And seriously, don't sleep on the modern day SU Family of aircraft either. See ua-cam.com/video/Jks6TTFsglk/v-deo.html for Jaw Dropping. Also, understand my comment is strickly on maneuverability only. Not best fighter, or anything else, since this video's title claimed "jaw-dropping maneuvers".
In that respect, the Russians have bested what the US has or at least released to the public domain. Stealth tech aside, us vs. them, air superiority is likely a draw at best, and the possible nod going to them. If inclined, do some poking around for clips and photos for Russia's 6th gen fighters / bombers!!!!!!!! The clip below is a peek at what they've "allowed" to be seen. As far I as know, we don't have anything like this. Also, their hypersonic capabilities and the S-400 SAM: "the most capable and lethal long-range air defense missile system on the planet!" and totally unrivaled. **This is one badass fighter:** ua-cam.com/video/h_w_0zUs9ac/v-deo.html
I guess I'm going to be the only one who is cynical about this entire project. The elimination of numerous aircraft, each with its own set of amazing characteristics and aerodynamic abilities in favor of one single aerial platform? I'm never going to be sold on the F-35. Never. But then why would a retired combat pilots view of the F-35 even matter. I remember when the F-14 came on board and hot shot pilots lined up to be the next F-14 driver. Mean while, I was flying F-4's for the Corps and I was perfectly happy in them. Yes, how things have changed and in my professional opinion, not for the better. One reason I loved my F-4. Two very powerful engines. Not one. Two. Real nice when over the Pacific, at night, in rain looking for a little speck on the ocean that resembles a carrier and then boom, one engine developes a serious issue which requires immediate shut down. Okay, that didn't happen to my Rio and I, but it damn sure happened to our buddies. Oh they made it alright. Trapped the 3 wire in a driving rain storm and with one engine. Can the F-35 do that? You see, as a combat fighter pilot, one must depend on the equipment they're using. My F-4 was very dependable and I loved that bird with all my heart and soul. Big fast powerful and brutal on enemy targets. Yet, even my F-4 saw the sun setting when the F-14 came on board. Marines didn't fly the cat. Oh it was considered, but in reality, very few of us ever got that far. She was the most advanced combat fighter interceptor of her day. Nothing on heaven and earth could out fly, out gun and out shoot the cat. At the time she came out, many pilots thought Jesus she's a big aircraft. They were thinking target. Yet, thanks to some very sophisticated avionics and radar, as well as the most sophisticated anti aircraft missile system, the F-14 just took over......... But here is my point. The F-14, for all its sophistication and fire power, it still required other aircraft of varied types to complete the missions it was assigned to. Everything from the E-2 Hawkeye to the A-7 Corsair and yes, even the F-4 all contributed greatly to a very powerful fighting force. For roughly 30 years, the F-14 was the front line combat fighter bomber interceptor. Even the Legacy Hornet couldn't complete the missions the F-14's could. Then someone over in the Department of the Navy got some crazy idea of putting the Hornet on steroids and creating essentially a whole new aircraft. One that could complete missions, normally assigned to F-14's. Of course, the Super Hornet was nothing more then a bigger "bug" vs it's smaller cousin, but.......but it had some serious kick ass avionics and weapons capabilities that could very nearly match those of the F-14. Technology is very tricky stuff. In a matter of a few decades, the F-35 came along and wiped out just about every decent flying platform the Navy and the Marines flew. Why? I'll tell y'all why...... CONTRACTS! MONEY! The F-35 is perhaps the most sophisticated aerodynamically perfect flying platform ever conceived without paper. Yet.......Yet it only has one engine. For us maritime aviators, that's just plain crazy. No matter how reliable one engine is, it's still only one engine. Pilots, especially Naval/ Marine Corps aviators have long appreciated the benefits of a twin engined platform. Especially when the nearest airport is literally thousands of miles away and all you got is a speck in the ocean to land on. In addition to removing that individuality to the various Naval/ Marine aircraft we had and enjoyed for many decades, the powers to be also opted for a flying platform that had commonality among the branches. Indeed, the Air Force, Navy, Marines utilize the F-35. The reasons for which ought to be obvious. Parts! I don't know, maybe I'm just getting too old. I see the F-35 doing all sorts of fancy maneuvers, flips etc, but the damn thing is ugly and it only has one engine and worse, they actually expect pilots to fly it! Thank God I'm retired. I'll take the F-14D over any of these Crazy Ivan fancy flipping aircraft. The Cat had guts. It had everything the F-35 doesn't. Most of all, it was a very beautiful aircraft and I seriously doubt the F-35 will last 30 plus years. Let alone 20. Well, anyway, that's the opinion of a seasoned veteran Marine Corps Aviator.........🇺🇸🍻
Interesting perspective. I was in OCS at Penscola NAS before the F-14 was retired. Now we have an F-22 that doesn't even have a 50 percent operational rate. The F-4 was possibly the most beautiful plane ever built, but could you dogfight with it? It's like driving a Mack Truck versus a Ferrari with the F-22.
@Bob Loblaw So.......how many combat aircraft flight hours do you have? Well? The F-35 is what I call a sterile aircraft. Oh, aerodynamically she can do all those fancy flips and dime turns, but at the end of the day, it's still a single engined non combat proven aircraft that has yet to fire one single shot against an enemy aircraft. I don't know about basements and yes, I do read Jane's. I do own a fairly sizable ranch in Lubbock TX. I serve on an executive board of directors with a major oil company here in Lubbock. I've flown all over the world as part of that operation. I'm very very proud to have served with honor and distinction in the Marine Corps as an aviator. Yes, I flew F-4 Phantoms. I graduated the USNA and accepted my commission in the Corps. I consider my knowledge of combat aircraft to be very good. Apples vs Oranges The F-14D was and still is, the quintessential fighter pilots fighter. Nothing on heaven and earth could match its overall performance in the aerial combat arena. Nothing. Yes, it was a very high maintenance aircraft. For X amount of hours in the air, it had X amount of hours on the ground being serviced. Still, it's service record of 30 plus years is amazing. The F-4 also had a high maintenance record, but for those of us who flew her, she was the most solid aircraft in any situation. The F-35, in my professional opinion, will never achieve the status the F-14 achieved during its service in the United States Navy. The ability of an aircraft to do flips, fancy turns, crazy maneuvers means very little when you're low on fuel, and one of your engines has been shut down and you're looking for the 3 wire at night with a pitching deck. I know this too. Been there, done that...... JR
I’m actually not impressed... I want to see this due actual high alpha vortex lift or something cool. All of these maneuvers are “meh”. Aerospace engineer, 70 degree alpha is what I consider “high alpha”. The turns were also worse than the titanic in maneuvering compared to civilian Red Bull stunt pilots, this thing would be so outmaneuvered and mocked at by those guys in a skirmish, it wouldn’t even be funny (well kind of). Maybe it looks more impressive in person, but it looked sloppy to me (I know, he was training, but I’m referring to the capabilities of the aircraft, not the pilot, it looked like it was flopping around like a fish like they didn’t have the systems actually dialed in. I know they wouldn’t be doing anything impressive in that airspace, so this will be cool when they test it out for real (probably 20 years). They still have some things to work out by the looks of it. Let’s see what the next generation can do!
Womboning Russia has shown it with their showbirds that aren’t combat ready and only the versions that have thrust vectoring. Look at the Russian Knights as an example. They are combat ready, yet you won’t find them perform anything as impressive as what you’re seeing the F-35 perform. Show me any video of a Russian Su or MiG that is combat ready and doesn’t have thrust vectoring, which is the majority of Russia’s AF, perform the high instant and sustained turn rates, or even the Falling Leaf, that you can find the F-35 perform. There’s no doubt that Russia has some very maneuverable aircraft, but when you look at the entire picture, they are way out of their league.
You have to to have them in large quantities in operational squadrons to have any meaning. A few demo jets with thrust vectoring does not have relevance.
Yash Rawat India is not authorised to purchase the F35. It first have to drop Russian weapons because the F35 is simply far too sensitive technology. China is no worried because the plans that China hacked was largely unclassified or non threatening files. THE F35 is a crown jewel jet for America and its allies and India currently is not allowed to buy and there is a open report by American defence initiative that currently the F35 is not considered for India as long as India does not agree to the terms of fully utilising western hardware standards that would prevent Russian intervention when integrated between Russian and western hardwares this will remove the chances of Russians finding any vulnerability given the extensive time of peace till a unknown eventual possible conflict. Hence it is simply impossible India will be allowed to purchase the F 35 currently and the congress have stated in official report to the public in America that despite India raising up this issue it will be denied purchase till it completely remove Russian infrastructure and the possibility of integrating Russian tech with western tech. To that it’s added that the F35 if sold to India will be fully stripped meaning to say no advanced radars and avionics that is classified only for American trusted allies and no stealth coating. So all in all you will not see American jets that is capable in the Indian Air Force any time soon due to Indian bureaucracy which is widely known to Indian citizens and foreigners. In short the F35 will not be allowed for sales to India anytime soon unless it’s stripped of classified technology which could jeopardise America and its allies or India agrees to upgrading its communications network which would be unhackable by the Chinese or Russians currently its evaluated to be a free for all tapping for the Chinese and Russians and they currently don’t even need to hack they can listen in openly.
@deadfrontier240 please dude, I can agree with the other part but you cannot fight stealth with S400, the Iranian General was fired cause he kept secret that Israeli F-35s flew over Tehran and evaded S400s with ease
It went and hid in a corner, just like how it hid at a Russian air base in Syria when USA aircraft were bombing Russian mercenaries for four hours while F-22’s flew cover, despite being only minutes away.
I’m in Jacksonville Florida. Go to NAS air shows . Goes to show you that our Navy and Air Force are the best trained pilots On this Planet. The new F35 A pilots Conquer the laws of physics. I can’t imagine what kind of jet our military will have in 10-20 years . I’m sure they will have a cloaking device. It’s pretty awesome that these jets shoot their targets from up to 5 miles away don’t even have to be in the dog fight . No one sees them coming till it to late . And for all you military folks. I salute you for your service thank you for protecting my family . It is a messed up world out there. And for you blue Angel pilots. I get goosebumps watching you guys. For I category on my bucket list is to be in the backseat of one of those blue Angels jets break the sound barrier. You guys are bad ass
Its quite badass but in all honesty I feel like we should have bought more F-22's instead. However, I had a feeling the F-35 could do a lot more than they had shown up to this point mainly the pilots being allowed to push them to the limit more and more. All those people who would claim it couldnt do this stuff are being proven wrong now.
F-22's can't do the job of the F-35, are a lot harder to maintain, and a lot more important for their job as interceptors and cost many times more. You can get two or three F-35's for the price of an F-22. And the F-35 is exportable, can be used by all branches, etc
Wow! Year after year watching Sukhois be the ballerina in the sky, we finally see something remotely comparable fly. By the way, what happens when that single engine blows?
@@z33andme71 Doesn't matter if i m serious or not....Russian Jets are easily manuvarable than any of their European or American competitor....And I m talking about facts not American propoganda..
@@feelingacoustic5143 You mean Russian jets that are showbirds that have been stripped of the avionics and other excess weight only needed in combat? The Russian Su's and Migs that you see are not combat ready. Look at the Russian Knights as an example. They are combat ready Su-27's, and now where will you find them being able to perform anything near the abilities shown by the F-35 in this video. From sustained, to instant turn rates, ability to recover from high bleed maneuvers, the F-35 shown here is significantly better. Plus, when you put ordinance on the wings of those Su's and Migs, that creates drag and wing weight, which reduces the Su's and Mig's top-end speed, ability to recover, and its agility. The F-35 doesn't have this problem because its weapons are stored internally and near the center of the fuselage. It has nothing to do with propaganda, which Russia is the king of, but simple physics and common sense.
It appears the lifting body design is in fact quite impressive. As soon as the federal government, in Canada, changes Canada will be getting these. Hopefully an order of at least 120. Boeing will never sell another fighter to Canada.
If Sprey & the rest of the fighter mafias criticism results in a much better Lighting II then they have done this nation a great service! Personally I would listen to the guys who came up with the Viper almost 40 years ago!!
I am most impressed with its minimum radius turn and its sheer power when climbing. Russian trolls love to boast about the agility of their aircraft, but mostly what is shown is going low and slow performing high bleed maneuvers that you won’t find in real combat. Show me any combat ready Russian aircraft displaying the power and agility shown here, especially one that doesn’t have thrust vectoring. The Russian Knights are a good example. They fly combat ready Su-27’s and no where will you find them performing at this level.
Well, I'm neither a Russian troll nor an American troll (like you btw), but in real combat, the F35 has to deal with the S400 - not with an old SU-27 (no clue why you compare the F35 with an old SU-27). Beside this #1: How much did the F35-program cost the taxpayers so far? You have to admit, related to the investment, the Russians develop and build way more cost-effective (and they are not that stupid to build a 5th gen fighter with only one [in numbers: 1] engine). Beside this #2: The reason you see "power" in the F35-video is, because the plane is not that agile while flying slowly. If you want to see power, check the take-off of this SU-35S: ua-cam.com/video/w1FpQlAp2ak/v-deo.html The nominal thrust-to-weight ratio of that SU-35S is 1.15, the F35s is 0.88 - thats power! In short: Praise the F22, but the F35 is costly shit
@@haschkeo Your bias is already clear. The Russians build far fewer fighters so their programs costs are lower. They also don't release accurate information and are known to be much more secretive than the US. Besides the F-35 is not expensive when you look at the values in context. Russians use 2 engines because their engines are not as reliable. If a single engine is a problem then why does the F-35 have one of if not the lowest crash rates of any fighter in history? It's crash rate is lower than many twin engine fighters. That Su-35 isn't combat ready. An Su-35 in a comparable configuration as the F-35 achieves a T/W ratio of 0.97, and even at 50% fuel an Su-35 does not achieve a 1.15 ratio. The F-35A achieves 0.88 while fully loaded in stealth configuration, but goes further because it consumes less fuel (single engine advantage). What that means is if the Su-35 and F-35 are equipped to fly the same distance they will have very similar T/W ratios. Also in that configuration the F-35 will not have nearly as much drag so it's acceleration should be better than the Su-35.
I'll take the f-22 or eurofighter typhoon. F-35 is a good multirole aircraft and cheaper but as far as a pure fighter not as good , can't maneuver, and not as fast. (Read the pilot reports) (there's a reason the f-35 can be exported and the f-22 can't/won't be)
Some turkey!? That last u-turn, near the end of the video, was wicked! I can understand why the goons at the Pentagon want to keep max performance a top secret, but boy, I would love to see that just once.
Avalon ?, welp honestly i don't have all the time in the world to visit all the airshow im alright with what i saw there especially since its my 1st airshow.
From what I can see, the aircraft can only manage 7G with all its onboard electronic control suit activated. But then again, the F35 was never meant as a dog fighter.
Nice video but; next time they should give the pilot a speaking role.
Apparently it use to be a robot.
It's so Stealthy you can't even hear people talking about it.

@@edwardplmn that was the joke
But wait, I thought Pierre Sprey said the "F-35 can't turn, can't climb and can't run." These so-called experts are dead wrong. This looks like a formidable plane.
It doesn't even have to be maneuverable, as it is designed to hit any enemy aircraft with missiles from a great distance; plus, it is packed with secret technology, such as being able to shut off an enemy aircraft, letting it fall to the ground. Also, it can shut off any ground missile batteries and their radar. Actually, American versions of the F-16 is all that is needed to clear the sky of Soviet Russian and Chinese aircraft.
imagine quoting Pierre Sprey lul

Yes someone understands..👍

The amount of G Force these pilots must experience during maneuvers like this must be intense

Wow!

I live by Luke AFB and hear these pass over all the time. The difference between the F35 and the F16 is night and day. When a F16 passes by, you can barely hear it when inside. When the F35 passes, you hear and feel it. The difference is amazing! The 35 sounds like a beast.
Phx LT1 that’s cool and all but if the f-35 made less of a sonic boom that would make it more stealthy.

Scary thought!
Also I really hope we let Japan develop the F3 which is a F22 with all the F35 electronics and sensor suite. They eat the cost of getting it developed and up and running and then both militaries can utilize the jet at a much lower overall cost to the US. It would keep the F22 up to date until the 6th gen stuff is up and running.

In a war (God forbid) it would not be the US sending planes up one at a time to face
Single enemy pilots in 1 v 1 combat.

Well, it's multirole, but could definitely be an air superiority fighter. It's logistics and avionics are an order of magnitude greater than any other jet. Imagine that on an F-22.
Those who don't know maneuvers like that generate so much g-force it would normally knock someone out. That's why you have to be genetically superior in almost every way to be a fighter pilot.

I would also say that there are very rare situations in a dogfight that a wacky high aoa maneuver might be applicable.
f16 is a light attack jet so yes iut is but this does not really matter
Okay I'm convinced the F-35 is a viable replacement for the F-16..
Steve Felten I mean they have different missions... the f-35 doesn’t have breakaway speed and is an air to ground fighter mainly

The jet is more capable than the pilots can handle

Apples vs Oranges
The F-14D was and still is, the quintessential fighter pilots fighter.

How is it able to do those turns without the thrust vectoring nozzless?
I wonder is Pierre Sprey is eating crow now. Per Sprey F35 "No wings and the air frame is too fat . Can't fly, can't climb, can't turn" .
It appears the lifting body design is in fact quite impressive. As soon as the federal government, in Canada, changes Canada will be getting these. Hopefully an order of at least 120. Boeing will never sell another fighter to Canada.
Well technically hes right this is pretty bland compared to todays fighters most notably the su57
If Sprey & the rest of the fighter mafias criticism results in a much better Lighting II then they have done this nation a great service! Personally I would listen to the guys who came up with the Viper almost 40 years ago!!
Thank you for a great show at Melbourne florida!
Honestly, there is NO JAW DROPPING MANEUVER HERE!!! MiG 29s,Sukhois have been doing this for years now!!!!
Man this aircraft damn impressed me.
Enemies will be wise to not underestimate this fighter as a non air to air combat fighter. It can hold its own!
Just flat out awesome!
Can't wait
Float like a butterfly-Sting like an F-35 😂
Robo-voice over the videos of other people. Comment, thumbs down and gone in 20 seconds.
Those are some VERY impressive turns!!!!
The F-22 can still kick your ass, from a distance.
The Melbourne demo wasn't very impressive and rather anticlimactic. They had two of the jets present and only one flew.
Amazing, out of this world
