That's what I did, spoke to my sheriffs department, after a few months of legal mumbo jumbo now its "call us whenever you have another catch" and they come and arrest them. Doing all this work and not having them leave in cuffs is very demotivating.

No kidding, my dad had a huge role in teaching me how to be aware of my surroundings and protect myself. My parents were both awesome but, that lessons was well received from my dad.

Yeah like suggesting entrapment - in reality it isn't, they could just block, close chat, move on, they are the ones making all arrangements, they are TOLD exactly who they are going to meet, they are not misled, SO they have a choice to say NO, not entrapment. The problem here is that most of these do not get convicted, there is nothing much police can do, they refer the cases to the SVU and they decide the next steps - Evidence obtained by independent operations is not admissible in any court of law unless the operations directly involve law enforcement. With Chris Hansen's show, the decoys were "deputized" for the purpose of the operation. But either way most get a slap on the wrist, at most, they get into a sex offender list - it's rare to see any of them do real jail time unless they actually committed the act (beyond that of just meeting someone) - so lots of predators do get exposed, but not enough actually convicted, charged, and put in jail. The ones you see do serious jail time are the ones who did the acts.......... On TCAP with Chris Hansen, there was 1 or more cases of the SAME person getting caught - I guess some do not mind getting caught again even if they are on a sex offender list - I mean who bothers looking at that right ? YET you can do jail time for stealing a 25 cent candy wrapper :P

It's because random citizens don't fully understand what they are doing. Some might provoke the predators to commit harmful acts against the voluntary investigator. The other issue is that regular people don't know how to properly collect and store the information without incriminating themselves or leaving it "clean" so a judge will dismiss the case for that reason.
It does suck though. I wish they US and the states can create a dedicated group and recruit volunteers to help stop this shift.

In general, I don't think civilians should be encouraged to do these kinds of confrontations. Too much can go catastrophically wrong. You're exposing a person's perverted desires to the masses, possibly getting them divorced, fired from their jobs, etc. People can retaliate violently in those situations. By all means conduct the chats and document the evidence, but then give it to the police and allow them to conduct the confrontations.
