PanYang hand builds an Yixing Tea Pot

- This Spring, artist Pan Yang was kind enough to show how he builds an Yixing tea pot body, completely by hand. Watch as he turns a lump of clay into a beautifully formed pot at his small studio over about 20 minutes, using only simple tools and his own years of experience.
In the background, a Kung Fu action movie plays while he works.
This is only the one step in a longer multi-day process - creating and finishing the lid, sculpting and joining the handle and spout, and generally perfecting every aspect of the pot, inside and out. Once everything is complete, the Pan Yang will fire the pot in his carefully controlled electric kiln.

Very relaxing to watch. The precision achieved with such economy of motion is remarkable. Real craftsmanship here.
Agreed! We could just watch this all day. It was a real pleasure to get to watch Pan Yang work.
Wow, I am just blow away by this - that lovely chocolatey-looking clay, the simplicity of the tools, the near perfection achieved in such a short time all working by hand. I wonder how many Yixing teapots Pan Yang had to make like this before he could make a teapot body as beautifully and quickly as what he showed in the video. I will definitely be looking for more videos that show how Yixing artisans finish the rest of the teapot. Thanks for documenting this.
Our pleasure! We look forward to visiting Pan Yang and Zhu Huan's workshop again.
10,000 hours
This is amazing! Thank you for posting! There's so many subtle things you notice when you are also a yixing teapot artisan! Gold
Great audio at 17:00
unbelievable, need more like this, great job!!!
beautiful, thank you for sharing this knowledge 🙏
Delightful. Hope to see the rest of the build.
Unfortunately, we didn't have time to stay through the entire process through finishing and firing. The whole process takes at least three days, and we just had one this Spring. We do have other interviews with different artists working on pots at a variety of different stages, and we will be working on making those available over the coming months!
Esta muy buena tu técnica, yo la hago de otra forma, siempre hay algo nuevo que aprender eso es lo más bonito de este arte, saludos
I was falling sleep with this then heard all the screaming and got the chills i got really scared!!!
the clay is so cute, dunno why
love this thank you
anyone have a video of when they put the lid on? or making the lid and those bits?
Wonderful but i wish we coulda seen the whole thing including the painting process....
Hall can by the fornitures? Ferramentas.
where can I get the tools?
does this master conduct workshoops or classes?
Thanks for the video :0)
eftter how many years you can due this?
I'm come from YiXing. As far as I know , make a yixing teapot at least need 3 days.(use traditional way)
That's right! The process shown here is just the very first step in building the body of the tea pot. This step took Pan Yang over 20 minutes, but he explains in the video that there is still plenty of work left to do. We did not have time to stay the week and film the rest of the process of making this pot with Pan Yang; hopefully, we will have more time for documentary work next time.
This is so relaxing. I love these videos. What did he spray onto the small clay pile that he used as a sealer?
Water
"Spank it!" lol no this is really amazing~
I didn't have much time to watch it so I cranked it up to 2x speed. That's why your comment really made me laugh. You should take a look!
Beautiful! So nice to see how yixing teapots are made. On an off topic, what was being watched in the background? Just curious :)
You know, we forgot to ask! I think we were all so busy watching the work, that w didn't even notice that the movie was still streaming until we reviewed the video. 😀
Haha! No big deal... It was such a pleasure to get to see how these beautiful pots are made. It makes me appreciate mine even more.
How thick is the teapot walls?
Can you list the tools used please?
Wow i love that type of precise pottery, do you have any idea where i could learn or with what clay i could train (i heard this clay is very expensive)
Need to learn Chinese and be in yixing china.Idk about going around there asking for clay stocks.
What kind of stamps do they put inside?? And why is he/she marking the closing part??
Beautiful and very satisfying to watch but at 17:00 I’m not sure what’s going on in that show but needs to help that poor girl lol
I whish to have properly brewed puer from this fresh made tea pot . They say this clay have unique properties so you can enjoy real spirit of tea..
What kind of clay is that?
This was Di Cao Qing ni.
Pan the pot maker.
:) In this case, Pan is the artist's surname, while Yang is his given name.
🤗🤗🤗😍😍😍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
How does on pronounce “yixing”? I want to ask my teacher but don’t know how to pronounce it!
Lily Mayer Nikolai Singh with an American or English accent it sounds very odd 😂 the Y is discreet but not silent - try Yee-sheeng
17:15 could do without all the screaming in the background, sounds like someone getting beaten or murdered....
Pan Yang and Zhu Huan were working while a kung fu movie played in the background :) As we filmed, some crazy fighting was going down!
Then turn off the sound!!!
Very Amazing work! But the woman talking in the background is very distracting.
The woman in the background is Pan Yang's wife, Zhu Huan, who is also a wonderfully talanted Yixing artist herself. I took this video rather informally, so you can hear a bit of our casual background conversation.
你的功夫不重要! 祝你好運,精通
