I remember when I first heard the news, I was in the car and had just listened Harvey. I saw a news article with Stephen and Audun’s picture then I read the title of the article. I froze in disbelief and after a few seconds my brain finally processed it and I just broke down. I felt so much emotion which kind of surprised me because I had barely started listening to their music that year. I just felt so sad. Their music made me so happy and I was excited for the future of their music and the news was so unexpected it was just so heavy. I will never stop listening to their music because it holds a special place in my heart.
I still get emotional :( what happened to them was not fair. It gets me mad to think of all the shows they didn't do and all the songs they didn't get to write. I just hope it was as quick as possible and that they didn't suffer :(

When she told me what happened to them I was devastated that we lost such a valuable asset to the art of music. Fast forward two years later I heard this playing on my eldest daughters playlist. It was like my ear just keyed into the low gutteral voice of the lead singer of this song....I was like: Dang that soung like... Well sure enough...that's who it was. I discovered Her's a long time ago, like a month after they passed away and since then I've been in love with this song and Harvey. Last night the first love of my life told me she started dating somebody else. Less than a month ago she and I were kind of dating, but from one day to another she told me to give her space and I didn't know how to react, love had me blind and I was a bit pushy, but it was because I love her and didn't want to lose her. The fact it was something totally beyond their control is just horrible and a tragedy especially since they played a sold out crowd/got a standing ovation and an encore the same night. they were probably so happy😢

What do you guys think this song is about? I want to hear as many interpretations as I can before I make a possible animatic or comic about this song. I'll start off with my personal interpretation. To me it sounds like a song someone is singing about a girl that he knows has a boyfriend, but he still wants her. He doesn't want to think about how much she loves her boyfriend and still wants to think that he has a chance with her. At the end I think he finally realizes that she's happy with her BF and her BF is happy with her, however, even when he knows he's been defeated he still wants to convince her that he can treat her better. I imagine, specifically around the end, that it's taking place at a prom and she was pronounced prom queen and her BF was prom king but he (the main character in the song) still thought he could have a shot which is when he asks her for a dance and she rejects him. And he's kind of bitter which is why he says "I want her to know/He doesn't have it all". Idk that's my interpretation but what do you guys think?
Interesting perspectives. You guys mentioned love a lot, but I think another major theme in this song is about insecurity. If you take note of the perspective of which the speaker is talking, it really sounds like this is him talking to himself as opposed to another person; specifically, during the chorus: "My heart takes up all my strength / No more can I think of them / No more can I hold her in my thoughts /Don't say that she needs him /That she needs him." I imagine him not speaking to someone else, but to himself. The emphasis of "That she needs him" how it is sung and repeated twice really makes it seem like this is all in his head and he's being tortured by his own insecurities and sense of inferiority to this other guy. "He probably lives alone, you know / How am I ever to compare?" I'm not sure about the relationship between the protagonist and the girl, but it really seems like he's an ex boyfriend (she broke it off of course) or he's just one of those reserved hopeless romantics that fantasizes about a girl from a distance. The conclusion: protagonist doesn't get girl, girl is still interested in this other guy. So all he can do is hope that she realizes this other guy isn't as great as she thinks, but I don't think the protagonist thinks he's better than this other guy, in fact he feels inferior, once again. But I do think that he thinks his love and affection for her is superior to the other guy's; nonetheless, this isn't enough to get the girl, cementing himself in the position of a melancholic lover.

What do you guys think this song is about? I want to hear as many interpretations as I can before I make a possible animatic or comic about this song. I'll start off with my personal interpretation. To me it sounds like a song someone is singing about a girl that he knows has a boyfriend, but he still wants her. He doesn't want to think about how much she loves her boyfriend and still wants to think that he has a chance with her. At the end I think he finally realizes that she's happy with her BF and her BF is happy with her, however, even when he knows he's been defeated he still wants to convince her that he can treat her better. I imagine, specifically around the end, that it's taking place at a prom and she was pronounced prom queen and her BF was prom king but he (the main character in the song) still thought he could have a shot which is when he asks her for a dance and she rejects him. And he's kind of bitter which is why he says "I want her to know/He doesn't have it all". Idk that's my interpretation but what do you guys think?

If you take note of the perspective of which the speaker is talking, it really sounds like this is him talking to himself as opposed to another person; specifically, during the chorus: "My heart takes up all my strength / No more can I think of them / No more can I hold her in my thoughts /Don't say that she needs him /That she needs him." I imagine him not speaking to someone else, but to himself. The emphasis of "That she needs him" how it is sung and repeated twice really makes it seem like this is all in his head and he's being tortured by his own insecurities and sense of inferiority to this other guy. "He probably lives alone, you know / How am I ever to compare?"
I'm not sure about the relationship between the protagonist and the girl, but it really seems like he's an ex boyfriend (she broke it off of course) or he's just one of those reserved hopeless romantics that fantasizes about a girl from a distance.
The conclusion: protagonist doesn't get girl, girl is still interested in this other guy. So all he can do is hope that she realizes this other guy isn't as great as she thinks, but I don't think the protagonist thinks he's better than this other guy, in fact he feels inferior, once again. But I do think that he thinks his love and affection for her is superior to the other guy's; nonetheless, this isn't enough to get the girl, cementing himself in the position of a melancholic lover.
