  • Jacques Castérède (1926 - 2014) was a French composer & pianist. These etudes for the flute were composed in 1961. They have been described as Romantic, but very modern.
The beginning of this particular etude has some similar characteristics to the beginning of the slow movement of the Poulenc Sonata, which was written four years before these etudes. Long lines of varying intervals stretch the breath capacity, pitch, clarity and musicality for the flutist.
