he made the purchase in the electronics section. those sections are usually central back an even amount of distance from exits due to the value of the merchandise. some times the line back there is shorter and it is an actual person unlike up front where you have to self check out most the time. making the purchase through an actual person already validates the purchase in my opinion. now what would be fun is asking for assistance carrying the merchandise to the car to see if he get receipt checked then

Have to back of the store to even get a cashier nowadays. Had an idiot tell us once that since I came from back of the store, had to show a receipt. I guess you have issues with being honest. Furthermore, you are shopping in one of the worst stores in the country. Wal-Mart treats its employees like dirt, most of them work for minimum wages and have to resort to getting food stamps. Most of their products come from China......Sure, keep on shopping for Wal-Mart, and when you are ready to retire, you're going to find out just exactly how "GREAT" all those CHINESE products were as far as a retirement plan.
No, they can ask, they cannot order you to. The person at the door does not have a RAS to stop and search, and any police officer would tell them the same thing. You have to have observed a crime being committed for a detention by loss prevention. Once you purchased the item, it is now your property, regardless of where you paid for it in the store.

They have your make, model, year of your car, all your credit card information, your birthday. They even know your bathroom schedule. It's all here on you tube. They know all. I make them bag every item, even big ones as they claim its only un-bagged items they stop you for. I still do a refusal regardless, I bet the penny's saved by doing checks is spent on the aprox 200 extra bags I receive each year. I also don't need to buy trash bags from them either as they are free now!

This was baiting. First, he did not want a bag then walked through the store making it appear very much like he could have shoplifted these items. Walmart loses millions of dollars a year due to theft. Reducing theft is the whole idea behind the "greeter". He was just looking for Walmart to challenge him. Yeah, you're a real hero buddy.
A receipt is not needed to exit any store any where and failure to show a receipt is not cause for any thing. There is no law that says you even have to take a receipt. Suspicion of theft is a lot more than failure to show a receipt. I haven't shown a receipt in ages and ages and have yet to be detained.
I don't see what the big thing is about showing a receipt if I owned a business I would want to make sure people paid for their items just so I don't end up going out of business

You are correct that corporations don't lose that much money due to theft, they recoup that loss from you as the consumer. They account for this loss in the form of the mark up that they sell items at in the store. When a company purchase an item from a vendor they determine the price it will be sold at be a number of factors such as demand for the product and company over head. Shrinkage ( items lost to being damaged, stolen, or basically and thing that prevents an item from being purchased by a consumer) is part of the overhead calculated thus theft causes stores to charge higher prices for items. The receipt check point is a deterrent from theft. much like the lock on your front door is a deterrent from burglars. Does theft still happen even though they check receipts? Yes. Do homes still get broken into with locked front doors? Yes. The receipt check tho has been proven to lower the amount of theft. Locks keep honest people honest. A thief is still going to try to beat the system.

Specifically removing everything from the bag and then walking all the way through the store is not a normal action and they would have reason to consider it so. Years ago, search of bags was never done in retailers or grocery stores. What happened for search and seizure to take place? Today, new one way swing gates are installed. It directs foot traffic through self check out. There, after purchase, a greeter is there to exercise pain. This highly trained break room employee now becomes a receipt checker and can't even read and understand receipt documentation. It has numbers with plus and minuses and equals a sum. The greeter then says you look like and minimum wage person and says, How can afford this? You must be stealing. Soon, these greaters will be standing their with baseball bats

It's a really stupid idea to have the checkout so deep into the store that after you pay at the checkout, you then have to make your way back past the goods you have already paid for and giving extra opportunity to "lift " some extra items on the way out.
In UK, Asda, which I think is part of Walmart, the ckeckout is at the exit guarded by sensors that you must pass through before getting to the street and with no rent a cop type of people waiting to bother you unless the alarm goes of.
After reading some of the comments, I may have made the wrong assumption. If the checkout are indeed at the back of the store, the store layout needs revising, if the checkouts are at the exit, then I apologise for my earlier assumption.

I really hope that isn't they're security lol but the fact still remains I bought and paid for my stuff. Not one alarm not any camera says otherwise. So therefore no need for me to show anything. It's not like I was masked running out the doors. I was a frequent customer and if I had in fact stolen anything they know what i look like and there would be evidence to prove it. When you choose to shop at a store where you know they're going to ask to see your receipt when you leave and then you get offended when they ask to see your receipt, it makes you look bad. I'd be willing to bet, if you showed your receipt without any drama, after a while they'd know you as cooperative & friendly which would cause them to like you, then they'd likely wave you through or just give your receipt a glance instead of carefully checking every item. Also, it isn't strictly about customer theft, it's also about employee mistakes. The larger the number of items purchased the more likely it is for the cashier to make a mistake. It's all designed to keep prices lower so that you'll come back. You want lower prices but you aren't willing to help them keep prices lower. Hmmm.

Here in NY stores can’t use plastic bags. While Walmart does sell paper bags at around a nickel each, most customers bring in their own reusable bags. Yet somehow my local Walmart (rural upstate NY) has never checked receipts.
Once a person makes a purchase the items are legally yours, imagine walking in 1 door and out of another door with nothing in hand and they stop you to ask for proof that you own your coat that you walked in with, but purchased from them the day before. Same concept. When something is yours its yours.

So according to our PD our local Walmart has purchased tag tracking cameras and have started placing them around to city to track “shop lifters” this feels like a really inappropriate measure to take for loss prevention. Especially in the small rural town this particular Walmart is located in where a crime rate barely even exists...

Checkpoints are illegal and probable cause means there was an eyewitness report of stealing. If the equipment also doesnt go off stating something was not rung up properly why are they chasing someone out the door-this means they are guilty of false accusations and no one should ever uphold illegal activity by reinforcing their actions. It's called a false accusation of guilty unless proven innocent. But this is just one of many check points police break and enter homes as they want cart people off and pump them on torture and abuse them all the people in the missing posters who never return (majority of that it accompliced with police support) police in another small city said they are setting up checkpoints to go through peoples cars at whim etc etc.four cops pulled me over once and couldnt come up with anything i was in front of my own apartment on a moped. they were trying to steal my moped saying could I prove it was mine. I had all this extra information (since you dont register and insure them) and later they turned around and stole it along with a computer a notebook computer a cell phone an ipod touch)

Sure its super easy to pull the receipt out and show them but it really bothers me that they will not allow me to leave unless I stop, put down my bags, find my receipt and then show it.

Really people are asking to debate habeus corpus as a means for allowing people to shop. The police cannot arrest you for any reason but claim they can trespass you from walmart. Illegal search and seizure and police would have to be present-you own those items and if there was no reported theft why are they searching your bags-we all know why they have anti theft devices installed and cameras and employees who at random walk around and stock shelves (without stalking people without probable cause as well) one man demanded to go through my purse in claims that his business is really disorganized and it was too easy for me to slip a single shoe from his store into my purse. I wasn't letting him go through my purse I said I will call the police (search and siezure) I call the aggression to provoke customers by checkpointing them aggression on part of the employees. They were hired as door greeters (hence if theft occured at the door there could then be a way to identify people may be really smart) challenging the concept of habeus corpus is called aggression and stating a persons illegal search and seizure makes them more qualified at their word-assumed to be allowed to accuse someone and go through their stuff. Their responsibility is to staff people in departments or watch self check outs. Habeus corpus is only over ridden in the case of war and not as it pertains to consumer law but in the matter of a trial before shooting someone (self explanatory you cant tell someone you wont shoot back while they shoot at you etc- no guarantee they wont end up shot) Right to trial and search warrant are founded on basic concepts such as not falsely accusing people (that is similar to profiling-no probable cause so its in the very LEAST harrassment on a customer) They also take peoples purses and back packs as if their word is more trust worthy than the customer. (CONSUMER SAFETY includes right to assume clear conscience) theres zero logic to the process of what they are even doing-the items are not in site unless they go through your bag they could steal anything...for example-an officer pulls up while im walking down the street demanding to know where im going and where i came from. I said none of his business and what was the nature of his questioning me-he said im a white woman and there was burglary (he was white and making a joke out of racial profiling -- profiling is profiling but racial in this sense) I said then i decline to answer and get lost is what i told him. he said there was a robbery in the area. I said I saw no one rob anyone and gave my name to that. I said I dont talk to sociopaths who break the law and therefor decline to speak to him. I said Ill sit at a bus stop until he leaves because I wont have someone check pointing me. I also told him that i watched him stalk me for two blocks and he lied and said he came from the opposite direction. I also noted that had there been a description I saw lots of people in the park where I had been. I said I will not be giving him my address and I will never be reporting to police at whim where I am going and coming from because they "feel" like it. I said that was probable cause to not take their word which makes his reports incredible sources in the court of law (obtaining information fraudulently is like coerced information like not reading someone meranda rights. Manipulation and aggression is a violation of our basic rights) I don't see why someone has to speak with eloquence to debate this. No police thinks they are subject to check points. None of the employees let people go through their purses coming and going to see if they steal. And I cannot work at walmart now because I have too much of a conscience: I believe in due process. Furthermore the fourth amendment says verbatum what i mentioned as an account against the person for theft-without oath or affirmation with descriptions of the incident and what they are in particular looking for. "secure in their persons papers and belongings" amendment V states/restates the same towards the end no one can be deprived of liberty without due process OF LAW (hence a store is not allowed to create RULES which usurp a proper due process according to the legal system and as mentioned before the police cannot arrest you for not showing your reciept- private property or your reciept cannot be taken without just compensation and there was no proper transaction to demand your personal property off of you (by police stating you dont HAVE to legally give your reciept is acknowledgement of this as well - to state personal business practise can trespass you is illegal obviously as mentioned that stores cannot create their own due process outside of a legal system as specifically mentioned in the constitution - the same that the state cannot usurp the federal constitution. Finally if we took the preamble we could debate that such a matter is not for the "general welfare" of the people (due to the size of "major chain retailers") it breaches monopolization tactics to hang access to resources over someones head which means the voice of the consumers are not being heard - the entire essence of why the consumer complaints department was created. General majority (much like democratic process) does not approve of the marginalized access to food and water at the hands of unethical business practices by major chains---this means they been outvoted against their choice of business practice because it directly affects the clear conscience of consumers. You know they also have the security scan devices go off as they see fit (they manually flag people as thieves even though they didnt steal anything and pat people down in sexual assault) I saw police mess with a scanner and set off buttons on people and do it to a child to pat him down and sexually assault him.... walmart has openly displayed the defintion of profiling ALL of their customers and that none of their employees can be trusted to ever do the right thing (not to mention the managers) long winded....im done
He deliberately had the items removed from the bags so he could get footage for UA-cam. He paid for the items in the back of the store, and looked suspicious when going through the exit. He knew what he was doing. He should have been detained for suspicion of theft. It's actions like this that make Walmart want to see the receipts, and I don't blame them.

The author of this video is aware that if you go to the exit from inside the store, (as opposed to exiting via cash register or self checkout), and have unbagged items in a cart or being carried, you will be asked for a receipt at the door. Many of the shoplifters try to use this technique, and claim the items were paid for in the electronics dept, but refuse to show the receipt. The guy who made this video seriously needs to grow a brain and/or "get a Life".
