  • In this video, I show you how to sew a corset. I was inspired by Taylor Swift's grommeted corset back gown that she wore to the #grammys It was designed by Daniel Roseberry of Schiaparelli. The photo featuring her in my thumbnail is by Matt Winklemeyer, Getty Images.
I thought I would recreate the grommet corset look so that you can see how it is made. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. Make sure you include the time stamps.

It’s not her bridal era, if you google Clara Bow, an actress from silent movies, there is a photo of Clara wearing an almost identical gown completer with layered necklaces that Taylor wore in the night of the Grammies. A track titled Clara Bow is on the new album, she was a tortured soul, spent a lot of time in an asylum trying to be ‘cured’ of her insanity. It’s a theme running through the album, for Taylor; the asylum is a metaphor for the music industry, the torture is a metaphor for how artists are built up to stardom one minute and then knocked right back down again with incredible cruelty, Clara is the victim who only ever wanted to be an actor, Taylor only ever wanted to be a singer/songwriter, yet way too many people have had their claws into her over the years.

I absolutely love this. And I thoroughly enjoyed the process. Thank you so much for posting this video! I also love the sweater you are wearing. Did you knit it yourself?

Thank you!! No mam, I don't know how to knit. Only crochet. But I love this brand of sweater. It's "Habitat." I have like, 5 of them. Haha

Help... I have been struggling so hard with grommets, they always seem to pop out or pull out or separate. I was taught to grommet through rigelene boning, so a bone in front one in back and the middle one to grommet through. I can not seem to have them stand any test of time at all, after a couple laceings they go. Also, if I try to stilletto/awl not cut the hole, there is even more bulk around the grommet. I am so very frustrated. I cannot see in this video what you are doing with the grommet panel part, as it is out of focus. Do you just grommet the fabric behind the center bone, and is that strong enough for a corset bridal gown? I am so desperate for advice...why am I the only one who can't seem to do a proper grommet?? I do have a grommet setter and all.

They don't set right if it's too thick. I try to hit the grommet *between* two bones, not through bones. Even partially grommeting through one bone is likely to cause the grommet to pop easier.
