Its not real. The sound we're hearing is a synthetic. The neck of the guitar lacks the curvature necessary to hit each string. You can play the guitar with a bow but it wouldn't sound CLOSE to this. Cool for a video though
It’s actually done manipulating the volume knob while hammering on the strings. Although, Adrienne Vandenberg did play it with a bow live. Saw it with my own eyes when they opened for Motley Crue in 1987.
The guitar player with the violin bow is miming to the keyboard solo played by Don Airey. He also does the keyboard intro to Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne.
The woman you see in the video eventually married the lead singer, David Coverdale. The marriage did not last long and she recently died a few months ago. Her name was Tawny Kitaen. And yes the guitarist is using a violin bow, reminiscent of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. They had several hits in the 80s. "Here I Go Again" is one of our favorites.

"Here I Go Again" has to be next. It's your basic 80's rock, and #1 hit. It's what they're known for. "Still Of The Night" is great, too. For their token ballad, try "Is This Love." :)
@@bubbavonmax4211 they are both great songs, i just feel that Sailing Ships gets passed over for the song that got played more (Is This Love). Here I Go Again, Is This Love and Crying in the Rain seem to be the three most played songs from Whitesnake since the self-titled album was released.
The woman in the video just passed away, they don't know the reason.Anyone know? Not supposed to die in your 50's. She made her mark in 80s rock, metal tho. Rest in Peace Tawny Kitaen you were a part of my youth
yes.. R.I.P. Tawney.... I think she was on an episode of Sienfeld, When Jerry's brain was arguing with his penis. She was beautiful, and died too young.... of some sort of infection? Bummer.
Whitesnake was huge in the late 80's thanks in part to this song and Tawny Kitaen in a few of their videos. She also appeared in Here I Go Again, sprawled out on the hood of lead singer David Coverdale's sports car.(Jaguar, I think) The guitarist, at the time of this video, is Adrian Vandenberg.
He was not the first person to play a violin bow on a guitar. And I'm not even sure if the originator was Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin but he did it live in Madison Square Garden in 1973 during the show / movie Song Remains the Same. This song is called Dazed and Confused. Look for his live version in Madison Square Garden in 1973 can't miss it. He also used and was the pioneer of the theremin in rock music. The theremin is the instrument that was used in the 50s and early 60s in Sci-Fi movies. It made that Eerie sound
This was Vivian Campbells (now plays for Def Leppard) introduction to the band. He showed up and had to do this video. Adrian is the other really tall guitarist. When you hear this at a show it is like a wall of guitars coming straight at you! It's amazing. Side note: Adrian got that violin/guitar move from Jimmy Page, he did it first.
Next Whitesnake song..."Here I Go Again" The whole middle section is very Led Zeppelin-esque. I believe, Jimmy Page originated the use of the violin bow on guitars in rock music see "Dazed and Confused" live. He changed it up pretty often, so different live recordings will sound different.
sorry to burst your bubble UK guitarist Eddie Phillips beat him to it by a few years, it seems. According to some sources, Phillips first took "bow to guitar string" in 1963 and as a member of the Mark Four {:-) PAV uk
This whole song sounds like Led Zeppelin to me. Not only the middle section but also the guitar riff that sounds like The Immigrant Song and of course the lead vocal. It seems like a conscience effort by White Snake to sound like L.Z. or just heavily influenced by them. Not that there's anything wrong with that lol
Whitesnake was huge in the 80's...they had actually been around from the 70s but modernized their sound during the 80s and became really big for awhile. You've definitely heard at least one of their biggest hits but just don't know it yet - its called "Here I go Again"

I am so happy that you guys are hearing hair metal bands/ power ballads in my opinion this was the best era of music. 80’s hair bands there are so many more bands that are so great to hear!!!
David Coverdale is the lead vocals. Since you liked this you must continue with "The complications of copulation" as David called it. Slow&Easy, Slide It In,Spit It Out (no grey area what they're singing about). Here I Go Again is their biggest hit song. They were great in concert too!
I saw Whitesnake live in concert in the early 90s with Motley Crue (girls, girls, girls album) and they absolutely killed it. The lead singer is very tall. He stood out front of the stage and sang he ass off. That guy could sing!!!! One of the best concerts i have ever seen and i have seen a-lot of the 80s rock bands in concert.
A video that was kind of funny that featured whitesnake and several other 80's rock bands was by a comedian named Sam Kinison (R.I.P.) the song was called Wild Thing
WHITESNAKE: "Crying In The Rain" There are two versions of this song. The original from '82, which is more "bluesy and gritty" and the '87 version that is more "polished." Both are great but I prefer the original. ua-cam.com/video/M_lmViCV2To/v-deo.html
Most of Whitesnake’s song are sexual innuendo or just blatant. I mean, they have a song called Slide it In, and yes, it’s about…money. But for a different vibe, listen to Sailing Ships. I think it’s one of their best and most underrated songs. Oh, and if you listen to the song 1985 by Bowling for Soup, there’s a line, “She was gonna be an actress, she was gonna be a star She was gonna shake her ass on the hood of Whitesnake's car”
I remember a time when this album first came out and I was 17 and driving down to Wildwood N.J. in a Firebird GTA going 140MPH on a land bridge at midnight listening to this song. TOTAL FREEDOM. What a time to be young!!! How's that for a memory!!!

Coverdale was married to Tawny Kitaen. She was most notably in Bachelor Party with Tom Hanks. She passed away May 7, 2021. 2 months ago. RIP Tawny Kitaen.
80s Hair Metal. Definitely. But a monster groove. Watch lead singer David Coverdale spin the microphone stand. Amazing. And no one takes off a leather jacket like David does. (Funny thing though? The band that recorded this song on their eponymous album from 1987 all got fired. David axed them all. They tried to replace him in *his* band while he was recovering from a bad sinus infection for 6 months that affected his ability to sing. So the band in the videos didn't play the songs on the 1987 album, oddly enough, although they did play the tour. John Sykes played guitar on the album. Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell took over on guitar for the videos and that tour. Neil Murray played bass on the album. He was Whitesnake's longest lasting bassist. Rudy Sarzo is the bassist in the videos. Aynsley Dunbar played drums on the album. Tommy Aldridge played lead drums and lead stick spins in the videos and in concert. And Rudy and Tommy played on the 1989 hit album "Slip of the Tongue." But Steve Vai played all the guitar parts, because Adrian Vandenberg had injured his hands and couldn't play the songs he wrote with David. Oh. The late Tawny Kitaen was the lady dancing throughout their 80s videos. She was married to Whitesnake's lead singer and founder, David Coverdale, for about 3 years. 1987's album was lyrically almost all about Tawny. As was the follow-up album from 1989, *Slip of the Tongue.* Although I believe that David and Tawny were in the early throes of their divorce by then. (A great song that was not included on 1987, but is on their greatest hits, "You're Gonna Break My Heart Again", is worth a listen for sure. Very intense high energy song. (Not to be confused with their older but similarly named, sonically different song, "Don't Break My Heart Again.") Tawny passed away this year, just months from her 60th birthday. They still have not said how she died. She had substance abuse issues for many years. And I wouldn't be surprised if she committed suicide. Just thinking out loud, since I don't know. Great reaction to an awesome song. Been a David Coverdale fan since he took over lead vocals in Deep Purple for 3 studio albums, and a couple live albums. His earlier Whitesnake albums before the hair metal thing kicked in were a bit more bluesy, blues rock. Less metal, really. More hard Rock. (Lead guitarist John Sykes gave Whitesnake its metal edge.) Although they did a very deeply funky cover of The Beatles hit "Day Tripper" back in the 70s. Also worth listening to.
One of the greatest transitions in music history. Still gives me full-body goosebumps.

@@barbaravance6774 In UK it was certainly titled 1987. Quick google shows it also had two more songs compared to the USA version, which I assume you're referring to?
Need to try the band Steelheart and the song “ I’ll Never Let You Go”. Vocals of the lead singer is epic! His name is Miljenko Matijevic ❤️
Great Song!!
I was just going to suggest the same thing! What a voice!
Yes. This.
Great song. She’s Gone - Miljenko’s range is amazing
absolutely!!!
Thank you for reminding me how f'n epic this tune is
At their peak back in the 80's, Whitesnake were about as big as it gets. They don't seem to get as much attention these days though, while younger fans have been rediscovering a lot of bands from that era.
I’m 20 and discovered them last month. I’m literally in love with this song
Another great group is Scorpions. Try the song “Rock You Like a Hurricane”!
Or steel loving you or wind of change
Still loving you, wind of change, big city nights passion rules the game, the zoo and more by the scorpions! Great
I was at the Love at First Sting tour. Was my favorite show of all.
Yes!!
@@soulhalo7343 funny both Whitesnake and the Scorpions began in the 70's yet both did not break the States until jumping on the hairband bandwagon. in both cases their 70's material.is outstanding. Check Whitesnake "Celebration' (78) and Check Scorpions "Speedys Coming" circa 74 with the great Uli John roth on guitar!!!! ua-cam.com/video/qAxKilg76XE/v-deo.html
Crying in the rain - the solo will drive you nuts ...... this entire album is insane - I was in high school when it came out
Whitesnake,-(Here I go again) is their big hit. (Is this love) was there too.
It’s funny reading the comments about their “better songs” and everyone references “here I go again”. The entire Slide it in album was a monster. By far my favorite Whitesnake album
You got that right, best hands down
Definitely agree
My favorite also!
Whole album is awesome
I can never decide which is my Favourite, Slide It In or Come and Get It
Awe man I was in high school from 1984 to 1987. All me and my friends wanted to do is go to all the concerts including whitesnake like 6 times. I wouldn't change it for anything. I went to over 125 showes just in high school.
Definitely check out there video Here I Go Again.
They were a big band in the 80s…
I wanted to be Tawny Katain- I thought she was sooo pretty! Unfortunately she just passed away. 😿
"Here I Go Again" has to be next. It's your basic 80's rock, and #1 hit. It's what they're known for. "Still Of The Night" is great, too. For their token ballad, try "Is This Love." :)
Yes to both! Lots of Whitesnake fans out there :D
I agree to both. Here I Go Again and Is This Love are must listens.
I prefer "Sailing Ships" to Is This Love, but that's just me.
@@rwxstudio7173 no argument from me. It's the better of the two. I couldn't think of it when I was writing so I had to re-listen to both. Good call.
@@bubbavonmax4211 they are both great songs, i just feel that Sailing Ships gets passed over for the song that got played more (Is This Love). Here I Go Again, Is This Love and Crying in the Rain seem to be the three most played songs from Whitesnake since the self-titled album was released.
It's a synth making that cello sound. The guitar with the bow was just for show.
Rest Easy..Tawny 💟🙏🙏 I Was Extremely Blessed To See Whitesnake A Few Times In Their Full Bloom In The Mid 80's- 🎸🎸
First off, love you guys. Great, fun vibe. If you like that 80s thing and raspy singers, check out Cinderella - Nobody's Fool.
This is such an iconic 80s band. Makes me want to go back 😂 take me right back to this time
The woman in the video just passed away, they don't know the reason.Anyone know? Not supposed to die in your 50's. She made her mark in 80s rock, metal tho. Rest in Peace Tawny Kitaen you were a part of my youth
She died of a broken heart from the passing of her dad . Which is very sad to hear.
She died on the day of her father's funeral 😢
That's what I read
Poor thing did die of a broken 💔
Rip
Tawny Kitan. She'd been fighting addiction and depression. She was on Celibrity Rehab.
yes.. R.I.P. Tawney.... I think she was on an episode of Sienfeld, When Jerry's brain was arguing with his penis. She was beautiful, and died too young.... of some sort of infection? Bummer.
She had actually gotten over COVID about a month or so previous to her death. I didn't know anything about her dad. That is so sad.
Hey guys check out the band Slaughter "Fly to the Angels" its a great jam.
You are the One-slaughters best song
hah That was the first cd I ever bought when my family got a cd player
I went to high school with him, took pictures of him for record label his band then was called Rose Parade
@@foreveryou9 I really hope that somewhere in the world there's a stream with your screen name lol
I wore several of their cassettes out playing them incessantly lol.
Whitesnake was huge in the late 80's thanks in part to this song and Tawny Kitaen in a few of their videos.
She also appeared in Here I Go Again, sprawled out on the hood of lead singer David Coverdale's sports car.(Jaguar, I think)
The guitarist, at the time of this video, is Adrian Vandenberg.
Steve Vai was involved as well. And Rudy Sarzo did the tour but didn't write or record on the album.
and Vivian Campbell. Quite positive Steve Vai was never part of Whitesnake
That was David wife
@@HarborKat Steve Vai was in Whitesnake from 1989-1990
@@chriso6719 Then who left? Was it Campbell to join Def Leppard? And everyone else here forgets John Sykes
"Love Ain't No Stranger" is a great Whitesnake song and video.
This is definitely their best song, love the guitar solo and the outro of this song.
Whitesnake "is this love" is my favorite.
It made that Eerie sound
the recording is not guitar played with a bow, it was John Sykes who played the guitars on this song, but a keyboard sound.
Look for a band called The Creation and the song Painter Man. Their guitar player Eddie Phillips did it in the 60ies
Eddie Phillips may have been the first in 1966, J Page was doing in 1969 for sure.
Literally a Top 10 80s song. Van Halen maybe My fave, but this is just so damn good no matter how many times I've heard/seen this.
Tommy Aldridge pounding those drums! Such an underrated drummer
This was Vivian Campbells (now plays for Def Leppard) introduction to the band. He showed up and had
to do this video. Adrian is the other really tall guitarist. When you hear this at a show it is like a wall of
guitars coming straight at you! It's amazing. Side note: Adrian got that violin/guitar move from Jimmy Page,
he did it first.
Great catch
Vivian also played guitar for DIO Before white snake and Def Leppard!!!
Clarification, John Sykes played all the guitar parts on this album before leaving before it was released.
So fun! My first concert without parents was Great White opening for Whitenake in Houston. Awesome show.
This song is so sick! When I was younger I played this song over and over and over couldn't get enough of the solo part when it slows down!
I love David Coverdale's voice. My favorite Whitesnake songs were "Crying in the Rain" and "Love Ain't No Stranger".
Agreed two of their best songs!
Couldn't agree more
They were huge back in the late 1980's and their music is still played on the classic rock stations.
I love these two. Their appreciation for music of all kinds is refreshing.
My fave was Judgment Day... I saw them live in 1987 and was shocked when he used a violin bow with the guitar, It was an amazing show.
Brings back a lot of memories!!
This was one of my favorite songs growing up, it was a kick to see you hear it for the first time
Next Whitesnake song..."Here I Go Again"
The whole middle section is very Led Zeppelin-esque. I believe, Jimmy Page originated the use of the violin bow on guitars in rock music see "Dazed and Confused" live. He changed it up pretty often, so different live recordings will sound different.
I just said the same exact thing. I should have read the comments before I posted.
sorry to burst your bubble
UK guitarist Eddie Phillips beat him to it by a few years, it seems. According to some sources, Phillips first took "bow to guitar string" in 1963 and as a member of the Mark Four
{:-) PAV uk
@@davexvs Bubble not burst. No ego involved. Thanks for the history lesson/correction!
Come on people....this NEVER gets old! Sounds as good as it did a long time ago! WS has some really good songs....Slow An Easy is my favorite.
Whitesnake was huge in the 80's...they had actually been around from the 70s but modernized their sound during the 80s and became really big for awhile. You've definitely heard at least one of their biggest hits but just don't know it yet - its called "Here I go Again"
Should react to warrant
Tesla, kiss, Cinderella, ac/DC, white lion, Metallica, scorpions, van Halen, more poison-every rose has its thorns, damn yankees, extreme-more than words, kix, night ranger-sister Christian
Cinderella definitely.
Thank you! While they have a couple good songs, I like any of those more than Whitesnake.
I know alot more, my mind just isn't working good today lol
That list is a hairspray OVERload 💨
@@yankeerepairs lol I grew up listening to them and they had bigger and better hair than I did lol
Saw them 3 times in concert in the 80s...they put on an awesome show!! I miss the 80s...
When this came out on MTV, my brother and I (latch key kids) would come home from school and tune straight to MTV. The bow on the guitar blew our minds. We shook the house while mom/dad were at work.
One of the best songs to come out of the 80’s

Same with Here I go again. Most don’t know it was redone too
You must do “Here I Go Again” by White Snake. I’m pretty sure Amber has heard it … just may not know it. I’m so curious now if she will recognize it!
👆👆🤔🤔🤔😀😀😀😀😀
MY FAVORITE BAND..David Coverdale, lead singer, was lead singer for deep purple
I got to see them LIVE way back in 1987 when I was 15 years old! They opened for Motley Crue on their Girls Girls Girls tour. It ROCKED
That whole breakdown...how they came out of it into total epicness and the awesome solo....one of the best segments of rock music ever
I swear I could listen to that breakdown on loop!
Dam I miss the 80's..... best years of my life
Most of Whitesnake’s song are sexual innuendo or just blatant. I mean, they have a song called Slide it In, and yes, it’s about…money. But for a different vibe, listen to Sailing Ships. I think it’s one of their best and most underrated songs. Oh, and if you listen to the song 1985 by Bowling for Soup, there’s a line, “She was gonna be an actress, she was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass on the hood of Whitesnake's car”
Sailing Ships is a Masterpiece. Coverdale with Vai? What could possibly go wrong with that?
The band is called White Snake. That kind of saysit all, doesnt it? Lol
Sailing Shipsis my favorite on Slip
Dont forget Spit It Out.
@@njineermike Slip of the Tongue
I remember a time when this album first came out and I was 17 and driving down to Wildwood N.J. in a Firebird GTA going 140MPH on a land bridge at midnight listening to this song. TOTAL FREEDOM. What a time to be young!!! How's that for a memory!!!
You two are fun to watch! Thank you for making my day better!
Ah, the 80s - when the guys had more makeup and bigger hair than the women. But the music rocked and was vapid fun.
80s hairspray use might be the single-most cause of destruction of the ozone layer.
@@christinec1928 Hope you sold your Aqua Net stock back in 1987! That company was probably worth more than Amazon!

Next song here I go again
White Snake was very big in the 80's. Another 80's group that was big is Great White. Lots of great songs but one of my favorites is "House Of Broken Love' Great drums, guitar and, lyrics.
one of the best lineups in rock
David Coverdale was in his first band in 1966. He hit it big when he joined Deep Purple in the 70's. BTW Deep Purple along with Rainbow are other bands that had an awesome rotations of lead singers and great musicians
Deep Purple is not Deep Purple without Ian Gillan.
need to do Steelheart; I'll never let you go"
That is an awesome song
Yes. Steelheart is awesome
@@stevegriffith779 I can't pronounce or spell the lead singers name, but other than DIO maybe the best Rock voice.
This song just plain kicks a##! Love the violins. Sigh...love your reactions to my fav love...80's music! LOL...love watching you back up w/that high note!
the lead singer is David Coverdale...if you like his singing, his first group was Deep Purple...I believe the guitar player using the bow on his guitar is Adrian Vandenberg...interesting fact the woman in the video was Coverdale's wife at the time, Tawny Kitaen...she was in a few movies in the 80s and 90s
All the guitars in that album were recorded by John Sykes, who left the band shortly after.
And he teamed up with Jimmy Page as Coverdale Page.
Coverdale was married to Tawny Kitaen. She was most notably in Bachelor Party with Tom Hanks. She passed away May 7, 2021. 2 months ago. RIP Tawny Kitaen.
They have two other songs “Slide it in”and “Slow and Easy”I love this songs! White Snake are one of my faves!!!
Seen them live in '88. Great concert!! The '80's....yeah, a good time to be sure!! 😃
And Rudy and Tommy played on the 1989 hit album "Slip of the Tongue."
But Steve Vai played all the guitar parts, because Adrian Vandenberg had injured his hands and couldn't play the songs he wrote with David.
Oh.
The late Tawny Kitaen was the lady dancing throughout their 80s videos.
She was married to Whitesnake's lead singer and founder, David Coverdale, for about 3 years.
1987's album was lyrically almost all about Tawny.
As was the follow-up album from 1989, *Slip of the Tongue.*
Although I believe that David and Tawny were in the early throes of their divorce by then.
(A great song that was not included on 1987, but is on their greatest hits, "You're Gonna Break My Heart Again", is worth a listen for sure.
Very intense high energy song.
(Not to be confused with their older but similarly named, sonically different song, "Don't Break My Heart Again.")
Tawny passed away this year, just months from her 60th birthday.
(Lead guitarist John Sykes gave Whitesnake its metal edge.)
Although they did a very deeply funky cover of The Beatles hit "Day Tripper" back in the 70s.
Also worth listening to.
Amber/Jay- need to react to Slide it in and Slow N Easy
Loved their earlier albums much better
I saw Whitesnake when they were touring in support of this album. They absolutely kicked ass.
RIP Julie Ellen "Tawny" Kitaen - so beautiful
I still have an old horror movie she was in called Witchboard.
@@LeviAckerman-cb5ji I forgot all about that movie, holy crap! 👍
Jimmy Page of Led Zep is the true founder of the Violin Bow on guitar. Check out him and his solo's using it.
Wasn't it Eddie Phillips from The Creation?
White Snake was HUGE in the late '80's (this Being 1987!:)) a Beautiful Ballard, ...lead singer, David Coverdale!
...Bob P, Mid Coast, Maine. 😊
That breakdown in the middle is probably my most favorite section of any 80's hair metal song.
