I want a remaster of this so bad. Dawn of War 1 remastered - including all the add-ons Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, Soulstorm. Imagine 2021 top notch graphics, maybe some tweaking of the UI, but everything else stays AS IT WAS. Same unit properties, same balancing, same sounds, same music, all audio just resampled to super high quality. I'd pay 200€ for it. Also a Dark Crusade with a planet 2x as big and 2x as many maps would be amazing.

The very first time I saw WH40K in all of its "tabletop figurines" glory, I was like "Meh. Too complicated."
Then I played Dawn of War and I was like "Holy Shit" and was hooked forever as a casual fan.

Dawn of war was the first time i thought about Orcs, a fantasy race for me, and Sci-fi warfare. i thought "What the heck? This will never fit!" Then i played as them for the first time, when the first boy jelled at me he wants to go sluggin, but needs more dakka... When i saw the wonderfull mispronounciation and writing of them, when i realized their complex and advanced strategies (Take da boys up to there and stomp em all!) i fell in love with them
I think the Warhammer Orcs are the best out there, better then LotR orcs and especially WoW Orcs!

This FEELS so Warhammer 40k. When I first loaded it up I was amazed..! The music really made me anticipate what was ahead. I felt immediately immersed into the 40K universe made live.

Fantastic quote and perfectly summarizes why people who think the Orkz, Nids, Chaos, Eldar or anyone else will ever see total victory over the Imperium are deluded. No side can win in 40k, only survive to the point where everyone loses. There is no end where the Imperium destroys all its enemies, chaos reigns supreme, the Eldar survive, the Necrons are victorious, Orkz flood the entire galaxy with a green tide or the Tyranids devour all.
The only true ending will be an utterly destroyed galaxy completely barren of all life. Even the warp will become placid. Doesnt matter how many Orkz or Nids or chaos warp power people pull out of their asses the only true ending will be the death of the entire galaxy of 40k.
Somewhere...in a parallel universe...WH40k has a big budget movie made that is fucking badass and this is the opening credits theme. I wish I was there.

Thanks to Disney fucking up Star Wars, if Warhammer 40k had just ONE big budget movie, it would be better than all the Star Wars movies that came out in the past 6 years(movies, not series, because The Mandalorian is GOATED).

A friend had this game and got me into the Warhammer universe. We played it a lit. I was a green horn with no knowledge about anything Warhammer I remember playing my first ever Skirmish map against the A.I and was up against some race called "Eldar" and scratching my head about why they wore what looked like "jelly beans" around their bodies. Or my first time witnessing a Squiggoth, or a Bloodthirster. Man those were some good and surprising times.

That theme and the booming voice of the Dreadnought always come to my mind when I think of this game... That, and the fact that the Dreadnought was pathetically weak in this game. Say what you want about DoW2, but it was spot on in terms of the combat mechanics and unit stats. DoW3 should have attempted to scale the battles up and add base building, and we would have had a new CoH1, instead we got a poor man's Starcraft 2 and a death sentence for the DoW franchise.

@@rayyanali4471 Actually Rayyan the reason why DoW changed compared to CoH (at least I think anyway) DoW never had a proper base it could have expanded on where as CoH had a base that worked for it. DoW always had that question of what its base was, was it an RTS, an Tactical RPG or a MOBA?

It has been a long ass time since i heard this.
If you were to judge by music alone you'd think DoW 2 came before DoW 1. Huge drop in epicness and savagery. Most DoW 2 tracks might aswell be sunday morning cartoon soundtracks.
If I were to judge by music alone.... I'd DEFINITELY guess the right order. It's a heavy trend today, that game creators are more focused on graphics, engines etc. forgetting about soundtrack, older games had less staff to work on so the creators gave better music. However I also think you're giving DoW2 not enough credit. It's less grimdark than DoW1 soundtrack, sure, it lacks "that feeling", but "might aswell be sunday morning cartoon soundtracks" statement is an overstatement here.
In fact I kind of find the DoW2's soundtrack befitting of this game, can't explain it though.
In my opinion dow 2 has great soundtracks and the music in both games represent the wh40k nicely.

I think DOW 2 soundtrack is more representative of the decay and struggle within the universe, while DOW 1 is representative of the whole universe of Warhammer 40k in a glorious and romanticised fashion.

the thing is that Dawn of War II is how it should if you read the story you would know how just some space marines can kill whole armies of orcs and else they are supposed to be baddasses not be in a quad of 9 and die like paper but of course i love both games
Héctor Fernando That is true. But the gameplay in Dawn of War 2 (excluding the expansions) were pretty much kill team missions EVERY single time with the campaign.

I kinda liked the campaigns in DoW2 and Chaos Rising, Retribution not so much -not bad, but since there were campaigns for every race, they couldn't get as much polishing. I even think the gameplay from DoW2 fits better a campaign with a linear storyline (that is, not like Dark Crusade or Soulstorm) than that of the original series... but well, overall, yeah, I'm with you, skirmishes in general were much better with the gameplay of the first DoWs. Though hell no, a squad of IG should not be able to take even one terminator down. Just no.

Still the best 40k game to date and I still play it to this day.
I remember seeing this on a shelf at Walmart when I was in high school. I looked at the back and thought, "Oh, this is like Age of Empires, but in space!" I soon discovered that this game was dark, terrifying, but somehow still lighthearted, and it blew my mind.

This game rocked 11-year old me and changed my life. This is what made the grisly world of Warhammer 40,000 look and sound real, and gave me a lifelong love of the entire setting. Before Dawn of War, I had books and magazines and even a meager handful of treasured miniatures (poorly painted, naturally), but Dawn of War gave life to many of the abstract concepts in the printed materials, and let me play around with whole armies that, at the time, were a financial impossibility to achieve.
Even so, being honest, I think better RTS games have been made. I think better Warhammer 40,000 games have been made. But to me, Dawn of War will always hold the most important place. It may no longer be the best, but it will always be my favourite. Plus the voice lines of many of the units in the game are just hilarious.
This takes me back! When I got my first gaming pc... I must of been 11yrs,old building army's that filled the map and didn't mined fragging out the game 😅
Hope is the first step down the road to dissappointment.

The first thing I really liked in WH40K is this music, I listened to this a lot while I was painting armies and such. It is so good, and fits the theme of the universe.

+M.A Assuhidis Dawn of war is about 12 years old now, and despite this, the gameplay is incredibly solid and fun, the sound track and sound effects are still superb, the graphics are still decent, and with all of the expansion packs, plus the titanium wars mod, the game becomes massive in size. With nine playable groups, dozens of maps, a still active multiplayer community, and extremely rich lore, this game is among the best RTS games ever and it still holds its ground today. If you haven't yet, I highly recommend that you give it a try.
