    I avoided the D rings like a plague until I wanted to get a safer helmet and then had no choice. I took the plunge in the interest of safety and after a few weeks it was easy to deal with. Wouldn’t go back now. Worth the extra 2-3 seconds it takes

    Funny that you posted this.. When I purchased my first helmet I had no idea how to use the double D loops.. I had to watch a video on it. LOL

    As Spicy showed, using double d rings is pretty easy, but if you still struggle, I've found that on lots of helmets you don't even need to fully undo and do up the strap each time. Just loosen it as far as it will go and you can get the helmet on and off by holding the strap along the jaw/chin part of the helmet using your thumbs.
    To see if it'll work on yours, try this when the helmet is off (it's easier to do than to explain, honest).
    Do up the strap. Pull the little tab (usually red) or if there isn't one then lift the rings to release the tension and then pull the strap through the rings as far as it will go until the press stud stops it going through the rings. Now hold the strap along the "jawline" of the helmet. If the strap doesn't cover the opening any more then it won't get in your way when you take the helmet on and off and all you need to do is pull the strap tight after you put the helmet on and loosen the strap again to take it off. No need to fully thread and unthread it each time.

    Now do it with mittens 🤔😉🤣 when I started riding 41 years ago there was only D ring and when I raced that's all you were permitted to use 🤔 I also think that those who are so against the D ring had velcro straps on their running shoes (trainers) they never had to learn & master tying shoe laces 😅 excellent Video Spicey110 👌

    I have a Nolan N80-8, first helmet and it has a micro ratchet thing. It works well but I have to put it on before I put my gloves on, otherwise at least for me it's a no go.

      The most likely way that would happen is for people to ask them to do it. 🙂👍

    I find the double d ring the most comfortable. Other tupes squish my Adam's apple. Just need to remeyto do helmet then gloves and its no problem

    I haven't tried a motorbike helmet with double d rings as the one or 2 that I've found with fit don't have them but I'm wondering if there would be enough strap for me. My current hjc has a ratchet clasp and it's only one 2 clicks

    When undoing a double D-ring, rather than pulling the rings forward themselves, I find it easier to use the red tab on the ring to pull them. It works well for 2 hands too

    I'll never go back to the D ring, I really love my ratchet strap its so conveniant and doesnt dig into your neck.

    I fully agree D rings are best and the more you use them the easier it gets. I just prefer the ratchet. I knowingly reduce the choice of helmets I can choose from out of shear laziness. Maybe i might start writing a book with the time saved one word per ride.

    I was wary of double D ring helmets ehen I ordered the first one with it for me. It took me all of 3 attemots to get a hang off it. Now when looking for a new helmet if I see anything other than doubke D as a closure it is instantly discarded as an option to buy.

    Are the ratchet type likely to come undone in a crash? I’ve always found the double D a bit of a faff.

    How often do you wash your bikes ? Wonder if i do it too often and might cause damage/shorten lifespan of some seal as i tend to wash it after every ride which is usualy everyday.
    Thanks for the videos

      Maybe a handful of times a year and they are used 365. You 100% will create more corrosion washing it every ride. The dirt and grease build-up helps keep the air off the metal.

    They did stress tests on all the fasteners, the d rings came out on top.

    The people saying double D rings are too complicated or take too much time probably wear Velcro shoes exclusively

      One of the first things i did, gloves first then tried to do d-ring its a bit of a pain haha. But will always buy D-ring helmets as i believe they are the safest. 👌

    It MIGHT be slightly safer, but there are more practical solutions

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  2 місяці тому +1

      I note you did not list one as an alternative. DD rings are the strongest, you get a correct fitment everytime and they are fast. What is better than that?

    • @Bugside
      @Bugside 2 місяці тому

      @@spicy110 micro ratchet, or whatever it's called. WAY easier to live with, probably a bit less safe, but what each one prioritizes it's up to them

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  2 місяці тому

      Totally agree with you. I am not questioning opinions and people's choices. I am talking from a tested fact basis. You do give up strength with ratchets, but you keep the correct fitment. I used to have a Nolan with one but I found it much harder to do up one handed.
