Keep on practicing. It's difficult to master Royal Guard, but you feel really satisfied when the enemies can get a scratch on you. Besides, it will regard you if you get perfect parries. I used to practice Vergil boss fight to perfect Royal Guard; I believe it gives you a good sense of timing. A little pony I may give you would be sound. I personally memorized the sound for everything Vergil does in order to block him, and it works perfectly for chain Judgement Cuts, although that hint might work mostly for bosses, since enemies have more irregular moves.
