Jack DePoe thanks!
Please stop saying you are not a good guitarist. We are not here to judge you! We judge the guitars! I would love to see you play all those guitars.
Of course we judge the playing. Captain is a great player tho.
Azoray I'd like to hear the cap in all these (tentatively titled) head 2 head videos, I enjoy his chatter and playing
I agree Captain is a great player. Yes, he may not be a shredder throwing 100 notes per second, but he is a musical and expressive player.
YES, PLEASE. I especially would prefer to hear how these guitars sound when played by Lee; instead of hearing Rob just drown their tone in high gain and distortion, while playing his silly speed finger exercises.
That was put a bit harshly, but I too prefer nuanced playing with lighter gain, and some bloom on notes rather than speed. It's just my bag.
Head says PRS but heart says Gibson. Having both would be the dream.
this is so accurate
that resolved my thoughts as well
Cannondale4321 As a PRS fan who hates Gibson but loves historical value and vibes, I get love toward LP guitars. But I can't stand them personally. To thick and heavy and uncomfortable. Now, les Paul JR doublecut, damn. That's a love of mine for sure.
Cannondale4321 I am the same 😫
Tyler, I am big guy and I love my LP Standard except too small frets and too skinny neck. And it would be fine for me to have it 1-2 kilo heavier. Never tried PRS though, no idea how it would fit
If you go ahead with the head to head show then I'd like to see loads of subjective opinions from Pete and Rabea etc - would like to hear what they like!
Yes! Subjectivity all the way.
Attempts at objectivity to me say very little about instruments, because instrument preference is so inherently subjective. Like Lee said: "Better... I hate that word when talking about guitars."
With a good impression of whatever kind of player is presenting his/her personal opinion, I find that I can always relate to his/her reasoning for that preference.
Yes Subjective with preferences will do fine.
Oh and that PRS sings its wonderful
Jacob Moffatt man mgn po l o I'm. M. U,b,jk HGV mikmm.
Agree. Subjective please. Feel to play and tone would be most useful. Also, 2-3 presenters will be useful.
Jacob Moffatt yes, I too would be interested in seeing which one the particular guitarist thinks feels better.
If they were available at an affordable price I'd want an original early model Les Paul as a piece of history, but they're not. So if I was spending four thousand pounds in 2017 I'd want the instument with the straight string pull, less break angle on the neck, great tuning stability & superior workmanship & finish. I like the sound & looks of both guitars you sure are lucky to have them :)
I love the concept, but I do have some suggestions.
I like the extra information given (so nut just playing the instrument), but people are generally quite bad at remembering timbre of instruments. I would thus suggest to edit the video in such a way that the audio parts are back-to-back.
For example:
Clean part guitar A - Clean part guitar B - some explaining/talking - Overdriven part guitar A - Overdriven part guitar B - more talking.
This makes it easier to directly compare the sounds between the instruments.
Equinar I definitely agree. That'd be a great structure for the video. It would get to the playing quicker and the tones would get people interested for the details and information which they'll hear immediately afterwards
yes please!
Equinar I second this.
totally agree!
Equinar completely agree it is really nice to get a direct comparison
When y’all put out a video, I watch. I trust your opinions and I’ve bought tons of gear based on your reviews. Head to head sounds great and I love hearing everyone’s detailed descriptions of the gear itself.
Loved this. Thank you Lee for all you do. Love your demos. Just the best. Thanks.
There comes a point in every guitar player’s life where they appreciate and strive for a guitar that is predictable, reliable, and usable in every situation. That’s when they buy a PRS.
Be mindful of perfection.
Sure, 100%. But it’s not a Gibson. Had both. Stupidly sold the PRS. Stupidly, still have the Gibson.
Like when all the notes ring out perfectly and it stays in tune and you can usually find a brand new sound in it regularyly? lol
Gibson is more like a human voice which isn’t always perfect pitch. That’s why it has soul.
Fair point, but they are both great. Best to have one of each:)
I think a cool format for the show would be to get one of your staff to review the guitar, but get stats from everyone and score each of them from everyone's perspectives. Ask them not to confer until after they've all given their stats. Might be a cool idea.
love the idea! and I'm proud of you for doing this whole thing by yourself! you don't give your playing enough credit!
I could listen to the capt.s playing and geartalk all day :)
Great video, looking forward for more
Both are so close tone-wise that I literally think it comes down to whichever you prefer aesthetically. Well done sir...well done.
more like this please, and you'll be the one playing
seriously, you're getting better every time and I enjoyed your playing
cheers
"We're using a fender hot rod deluxe, all the eq's at noon, just a little bit of reverb"
I’m with you Lee.....both please! Each guitar is a dream and each has a unique voice. I could stare at them all day and feel good inside! Keep the vids coming.
At the loop the outcome was very clear. A better representation of these two guitars than words could bring. Very nice video!
Sounds like an awesome new format! It'd be awesome to have the guys talking and giving opinions and things throughout too :)
I guess clashing a Gibson usa les paul traditional T 2017 with a Gibson Custom les paul '59 true historic would be a good start. They are priced quite different, but it sure would be interesting.
Hope you would do this.
Yep. My 2009 Gibson LP Traditional sure sounds better and plays better than most of the custom RI I've played. It even looks almost the same, except for the chrome hardware and Nashville TOM. I will admit that Lee's '58 RI sounds slightly better than my 2009 Traditional. ;) Seriously though, Lee's '58 RI is one of the best sounding Les Pauls I have ever heard.
My 2014 Gibson LP Traditional Pro II is also an exceptional guitar. The fit, finish, playability, tone, tuning stability, etc, is simply magical.
To be fair, I watched this video blind, only listening to the audio. I chose the Gibson every time. I just prefer the sound of a Les Paul over any Les Paul "type" guitar.
Of all guitars, I prefer the sound of Fender Strats and Teles, Gibson SGs, LPs (both P90 and Humbucker equipped), and ES-335s and ES-339s. That's just my personal preference.
If someone is happy with the guitar of their choosing, that's awesome. I don't care if it's a $100 Hondo. If you like the sound, you like the sound, and that's all that matters.
Picking on someone for their opinion, or insisting that one brand of guitar is better than another, while bashing the one you don't like, is childish and unnecessary. You're not going to convince anyone to change their mind about what they prefer. You're just wasting your time and coming off as an asshole while you're at it.
nitegoat1369, well, I will keep bashing telecasters for being ugly abominations and I would never buy one. Yet I love their bity sound and adore most famous tele users. It is all about personal preferences.
@@ThorneyedWT Tele's look so good! As do LPs.
The best video I’ve ever seen from Anderton’s. Very well recorded, played, and explained. You did what most would do when they walk in to your store and try to decide. Thank you for skipping the smirky, smarmy, “cheeky”? stuff I’m used to seeing here. Well done! .... and PUHLEEEZ don’t get a “better” player to show us how they play vs what the guitar is like
I'm excited for more of these videos, I love everything you guys do. Totally a PRS guy, but that Gibson tone was pretty awesome.
Yep. I like it. Will watch more of these videos. Cap'n Lee you do a great job playing and talking. I'd be perfectly happy with you doing all the rest of them.
Lee your playing is getting better and better. That loop jam at the end was great!
To add to what I said earlier, I love your playing, and your personality is top notch fun! So, if you can't be a part of the series due to time constraints, workload, etc., I would definitely love to see you as a "guestie" from time to time. You are the single reason I subbed to this channel.
Not that I don't enjoy everyone else, but as stated earlier, I love your personality and your way of looking at things, FWIW.
I love the idea of the head to head, showing the items, playing, tones, and specs for all the gear being compared.
Love the idea of head to head. Anyone on your team is awesome. Looking forward to it.
Your playing is great, we really don't need anybody else to demo. Love the concept!
I very much like this forthcoming format. Do it, do it, do it!
Yes, love the idea! Excellent start!
Lee, a Great demo as usual!
I am a huge Gibson Les Paul fan however that PRS sounded a touch better in my opinion now, the reason is based on the Low Output Pickups.
Once people understand that Low Output Pickups with a decent amp will have more "articulation" just remember higher the Output equals less clarity,
If you are a classic rock enthusiast and appreciate bands like AC/DC, Zeppelin, Lizzy etc...the best way to get as close to their tone is Low Output Pickups,, I am telling you it is the best-kept secret in the industry!
BTW...Choosing pickups based on Output is the wrong approach, it's like judging a beer by its alcohol content, it really doesn't tell you much about the flavor or in this example the tonal characteristics!
So, remember next time you decide to buy another set of pickups try Low Output Pickups, you will thank me!
Gussy Wells!
Gussy Wells thanks
High output has always sucked and there is really no logic to it. You can always boost a moderate output pickup, but high output pickups always sounds harsh, buzzy and compressed.
Your '58 Blues Master has the best flame top I've seen to my liking, not too much not too little, and man it sounds good, congratulations for picking out a good one.
Yay! Do more!!! And most playing with playing experience would be great please!!!
Love the idea of a head to head show!! So many variations of similar type guitars it'll be nice to learn the nuances between two or more guitars.
"Head to head" would be the perfect name for a programm where you do comparisons/shoot outs of guitar/bass amplifuer heads...'cause you'd compare head to head you know
I decided a while ago that I ain't running a museum. All in on PRS. That '58 is glorious though. Love what you do here!
Really enjoyed this vid and would really like to see more like it. As for format... while I'd love back-to-back sound comparisons, those subjective reviews... feel, color, build quality, in the room sound, gig-ability, etc. is really what it's all about so please include it all!
Great job mate, keep more videos like this coming.
I like the PRS and this head to head show - well done - cheers
Great vid! Amazing guitars and playing! Me wants both!
Yes! Finally! Will enjoy this tonight! :-)
Love the vid and love the format and for me, the longer and more detailed the better but one thing that always gets me going with this type of revue is no final verdict. No fence sitting please!
Great video Captain. Thanks. Would love to be able to own one of those some day.
enjoy your show great thanks captain. Ive just brought a PRS Mcarty 2006 model indian rosewood board.
It's good to be the Captain! Cool idea, with various playing styles this could make for an interesting series.
Nicely done Mr. Anderton.
Great playing captain! Would love the series with lots of personal opinions and good jams :)
Would love the head to head videos. And yes we would like plenty of playing, and the specs and opinions.
If you want to do a proper sustain test, you need Nigel Tufnel...
Omg compare a mex tele vs a standard Chapman ml3
Ludde Hammarström My money's on the Mexican. Not the first time. 😉
Ludde Hammarström good shout
Squier Classic Vibe would win.
Chapman. Much less obtrusive heel joint, carved top... just more guitar for the money than the Tele.
I agree but they just dont look very nice to me
This series will be awesome
Love it. Do it all again.
Great video! I know you've already mentioned that the sustain test is not scientific, but it would be fairer, without that much more effort, to compare them with without distortion. This is because distortion clips the amplitude of the signals, so the guitar higher output will appear to sustain longer with the same distorted volume, while in reality it might just be louder, thus takes longer for the sound to decay. Anyhow, thank you for always making great videos!
Really glad to find this video! Exactly the choice I’ve been debating. So far I think the PRS is better made, but the Gibson ‘58 has a sound to the pickups that just seems to have more dimension. What I want is a PRS that sounds just like a ‘58. I know, I know.
You are awesome Captain!
I'd love to see it all. Play, opinions, what they like better about both, histroy/information. Little bit of everything would be great!
Definitely do the head to head!!! Compare specs and opinions between the players. Just all of it would be awesome to watch
Love the idea. Playing and personal thoughts on the gear would be great.
3Thumbs up!
Very interesting and funny to see
when someone has to choose!
Lucky Bastard ;-)
these ones are really sweet, I would have choose booth too!
I've had 2 Les Paul's and 4 core PRS guitars (one being a 594). I love them all...no need to hate. For what it's worth, I tend to play the PRS ones more.
I like the Head to Head idea! I want not just playing, but i would love to hear them actually talking about what they preferred, or didnt prefer. As much of the personal information of the instruments as possible. I can read the specs, but having someone say "well I just preferred the way that the pickups reacted to dynamics" or "The neck just seemed a little smoother in my hands" are the things I cant get from the company websites
Cool show idea! Split it down the middle for playing / commenting. Have Pete & Mick do a lot of them...they're great together and great players and always get good tones.
Eric Jason Brock You mean Pete & Bea.
No, I meant Pete & Mick. They are my favorite "reviewers" on the Anderton's squad.
I would love to see more of these. Subjective of course, always value your opinions. Cheers!
Awesome job man!! Both the guitars are awesome it’s tough to decide which one is better
Great vid man!
That was great Lee. I really enjoy Mick and Pete together they are both great players and they work well together. I think the idea for the show is great I would enjoy it I am sure.
Love the idea!
keep the info please, and this is one of the best ideas you guys have had.
Thanks for everything
That Prs just sounds awesome, nice playing also
Great idea on the show. Think it's going to be very entertaining and interesting. I don't puke give a testicle for each one of those guitars. They're on my list of have to have guitars. Those along with a Gretch, American tele delux, Martin, Taylor, and Amarican Fender Jazzmaster.
Love the 58, but both nice guitars. On a veterans affairs pension from Army so it will take a life time to save. I want one so much. As ptsd and back can't work so guitar and my dog keep me going as family left me. I would love to visit your shop. But I'm in Australia save to go overseas or a guitar mmm at 47 I'll be pushing it but a guitar would be so nice. A Gibson custom 58 exact what you have there. Love your videos.
i like a lot that show. I think that's a good way to spend some times with two guitars or amps and discuss about how they feel, what are the differences on the way they are built.
Really, great show! Mr captain, you can do continue to be part of it, come on you don't need to be as good technician as rabbi and Pete to give us your advice and make sings those beauties!
A fan from Monaco!
Would love to hear you dial the tone n volume
I like this I like this, a good amount of information and playing
Lucky to have both , the PRS is a bit brighter and the coil taps make it more versatile
Fender vs Suhr!
yes please
It'll have to be amps because Fender doesn't make pedals and Andertons doesn't stock Suhr guitars.
Andertons is not a Suhr dealer. (THEY SHOULD BE)
Tom Angus Haha, you may also say the same to the boutique Les Paul replica makers ;)
John Suhr worked for Fender Custom Shop as a master builder so I believe it will be interesting to compare a high end Fender and a similar price Suhr.
I know this video is a bit old, but relevant to me since I bought a R8 last year and now have a benchmark for comparison. Playing that beast brings out ones inner authentic voice. Love the fat neck, which then makes other guitars feel like toys but now so easy to to play. I have top wrapped 11s.
Now that I know what I like, I'm looking at getting a P90 Lester... so many options with Gibson / Epiphone 2019 lineup.
Don't overlook the Gibson SG Classic... amazing neck and dang, so fun. Killer value.
Cap'n your too modest, your guitar licks are great, and have loads of soul.
I'd love to see more of this man. The subjective comparison stuff is great, obviously with playing mixed in. I really love listening to you and the crew talking guitars though, it's ace. Would you think about doing head to heads on amps and pedals and stuff too?
Love your work, Cap!
I like both, the Gibson sounds like a Gibson and the PRS sounds like a PRS. Both are great guitars! I like this concept and would really like a comparison between Suhr, Fender and Tom Anderson.
Peace.
Awesome Comparrison.
Some catagories for other head to heads would be.
- timbers
- finish
- sustain
- tuning stability
- feel
- weaknesses (structural and tonal)
hey PRS, do your own thing baby. You're awesome just the way you are!
The concept is great, u should show more low end stuff, btw. More Captain please
Great concept, agree with suggestions that should also include more affordable ranges (more chance of getting me to part with my money too!) - suggested title for format "Battle of the Axes!"
or "Axe with the Max!"
Love the PRS hands down, as I expected, it sounds pure and perfect and there's some kind of a flaw in the Gibson, but then in the loop jam that flaw is what gave the gibson personality and now I'm stuck because weakness has become strength.
I like the idea of the series, and look forward to them.Quit saying that you are not good,I have noticed that I really like your style. You have a naturally darker tone to your playing,I noticed it when you and Pete did the new '19 Led Paul Standards, with that great jam,at the beginning, and I have heard the same tone come through on this one,and it's great.Keep up the good work.
I love this head 2 head idea! Beside the specs and the sounds, I am interested into your subjective view, because I have the feeling that what we hear from youtube is not capturing the whole picture. I think you guys at Andertons have gained that credibility and trust that make your subjective opinions into friend's tips rather than the old seller's tricks.
The Captains chops on point today! Nice!
you should continue doing these yourself lee i enjoy your style of playing love the bluees sound you have
I feel like the Captain has the same sentimentality as I on guitars. It’s hard to judge one being better than the other. I love both, and have stuck with Gibsons, but never owned a 594 PRS. Tried one. Loved it. But can’t afford one yet.
would love such a show - but only if you guys actually declare a winner ... none of this 'every one gets a trophy, horses for courses , as long as you buy one of them from us, never say anything bad about the lines we carry' pablum
and capt lee, don't slag your playing, friend ... most of us can relate to your playing more than we can the more elite skill levels of Pete, Rabea, Rob, etc... we are living vicariously through you, mate!
The sound & look of the Les Paul with the tuning stability of the PRS. That would be great.
Yes. This would be perfect.
Great video! I think that if you are looking for the 60's and 70's blues-rock and rock sound, the Les Paul is your guitar but if you don't care about that the PRS is more comfortable with a better construction. You should do a comparative between these guitars and the Duesenberg 59er, amazing guitars.
Nice playing at the end.
Good idea for a show as long as it gets very critical mentioning not only the general things we know and not just mention the "feel" of the guitar as we pretty much know that many guitars feel great etc etc, test things like pots switches fret job tuning machines quality heck even open the cavity tell us what's going on there tell us if you think this could last long and endure being toured and played and loved, this sort of reviews.
Sorry if I sound very picky but many of us here really want to know the pro players opinion of the details on some instruments and not only how a guitar feels.
Anyways love the channel and will always support it !
Hello guys, I watch all your guitar related Videos at least twice.
Id love 2 c the head 2 head show with lots of jams and looper jams and a chat about subjective opinion, which is mostly entertaining and not so practical because I would only know what I prefer by trying out in store and from experience, but the sound examples are useful and very enjoyable for me. Maybe a bit like the Paradiso show. Playing is what the audience want the most of I guess.
I highly recommend using a pair of high end headphones or speakers to get the full experience out of the videos.
Could we also have some more top shelf videos please?
And I do love your shows and the playing of guys like Bea, Mick and Pete, so give us more please!! Cheers :)
If you move forward with a "head-to-head" style show i would love to see playing and some more information about the products. I like hearing the guitars obviously, but i also enjoy hearing some of the specs (even when i already know some about the product). I always enjoy hearing other peoples insights on the products, it gives you another point of view.
very cool show
Well I thought you did a fine job! A mix of playing and talking about the guitars would be perfect for me, also showing how they react with a variety of effects too
As much as I love PRS, man that Gibson literally roar when pushed into high gain territory. It is raw, gritty and has some bite to it. The PRS is more polished and modern, more versatile maybe with nicer specs. 2 great guitars but in the case I would pick the Les Paul. It is like why buying a PRS wannabe Les Paul when you can have the real deal?
I definitely like the info, opinions and chat from the presenters.
