If someone is unable to follow a madhab it is permissible for them to be a ghair muqalid in one that does.If you write to Dr Ali he would tell you to follow a madhab. Thi is why it is important to also have contact with the uulemah and not just read their books.FIamanillah
The majority of Azhari mhayukh do follow a madhab and that is the methodology of al-Azhar. al-Azhar i where most of the mshayukh near and dear to me have studied. Fiamanillah

True and in away not. The word necessary would perhaps be better to have used, at the end of the day it is still an 'obligation'.
