Happy to see that India is making good bodies. I am from India. I believe the CJ3B was made in India till 2000. I learned my driving in 2000 on a Jeep CJ3B.
After seeing this video once again , there seems to be a whole lot more pride in the build of this body tub . Just the fact that holes for pedals and steering column , firewall and wiring , hood and fender mounting locations and so on , is determination to build it right . Even the crate they ship it in is no joke , it’s a solid frame to protect something they obviously put a lot of time and craftsmanship . Wow , it’s surprizing they don’t ask for a deposit on the crates . Engines and transmissions shipped in plastic crates are to be returned or a deposit is charged . At any rate , it’s perfectly reusable to ship body tubs that are repaired or built in your shop . Nothing will go to waste in your shop !
I'm sure happy to have gotten on the list. Really appreciate the video to see what to expect when mine comes in. Thanks Brian for sharing your knowledge 👍
What's your impression now, after 2 years, of the SGI tubs vs the MD Juan? I have a 1942 GPW that I'm considering getting a repro tub for. It has a '42 GPW front half and a MB back half.
I just unboxed mine 2 weeks ago. CJ2A unprimed. It fit like a glove. The only adjustment I had was the steps. The leading edge was at 90 and it needed to be massaged to match the angle of the fenders. I used my original hood and grill and they fit perfectly as well. No primer is the way to go. I can tell Pete Debella flipped this on its side. You have the same foam and cardboard in it as me. I am sure yours came in the same crate as mine. It is at MV Specialties in Redwing Minnesota. He thought it was great quality too, especially compared to MD Juan.
Now that SGI body kit looks great. Never did feel comfortable with MD Juan stuff, just didn't look "right". There's a lot of rusted out, beat up Jeeps out there just waiting for good quality sheet metal to bring them back on the road. Looking forward to this build!
Hey Brian, please do a video on the Jeep you install this full body tub on painted and ready to go,and any issues you had with it during assembly if any!
Your opinion matters!!!! You would be a very fine judge at jeep events I think. Some people really want to know what they got rite and wrong. Don't forget: Nothing personal, Just business! T.
From following your videos and from personal experience, I could tell that there were some differences with the original body. But just like you said it looks really good, really nice attention to detail in many things, looking forward to see how they fit. Thank you for the walk around and inspection Brian!
Hi Brian, Wow I'm glad to see you got an SGI body. I ordered one last June and am expecting it in December. It is for a 1943 MB whose body is beat to heck. I am not that good at body work but I can assemble OK. Thanks for your preview.
Not personally knowing the particulars of the cj2a or 3a bodies , taking your word that these will be most impressive compared to anything any parts and assemblies you’ve made and are making to date . I will say however , it’s really good to see that a company is working to produce a product as near to original as these will be . Since the tooling had to be recreated from what source they were , original blue prints , body and chassis manuals , CNC recreation or however , it’s nice that there is the care to want to do it right and as best as can be . In all fairness , it’s good that anybody is making a concerted effort to even lift a finger to produce anything that anyone wishes someone would make , I guess it would be appreciated that it be done right , especially since the price commands it and the advertising suggests it . Will be looking forward to the fitting of theses parts , namely the body tub onto the chassis . If I heard you right , your expecting a chassis soon ? From the same manufacturer as these received ? Has a person curious as to how these tubs , fenders and grilles will fit on either their chassis or an original cj2a or 3a . It seems that’s always been the problem with reproduction . Well , as we all are , looking forward to future video(s) when possible to the assembly and comparison . As a guess , there will be many planning to order tubs and body parts to assemble to original chassis’s . Well , until next time , thanks for the showing .
This will be going on an original CJ3A chassis and I am hoping it fits as good as it looks. These are the best tubs available at this time and the company is willing for feeedback and willing to make things exactly right. We have already come a long way from the first tub they made to this one, so things are going in the right direction. More videos will be coming.
Pete Debella has always sold good quality parts. Bought my gas tank from him in Mobile Al at the MVPA military National convention Show about 15 years ago.
Looks like the latest generation of repo bodies are a lot better than what we have wrestled with in the past - but - this 2021 and with all the definitive information freely available nowadays I think there should be NO significant faults in the product
Hi Brian,SGI and this video must be getting MD Jaun and their dealers worried,I have never saw a video on youtube promoting MD Jaun body tubs and kits until after this video came out, they know their is a new kid on the block,Thanks Brian for getting the truth out and with video proof, let them hate, they cant stand the truth, ignoring their customers and builders and keep putting out low quality parts for high prices has Consequences!
Do original gpw bodies from early to mid 40's have serial numbers actually stamped on the body anywhere, or is it only on data plates? I have a body, no data plates, I'd like to ID it if possible?
I don't think there will ever be a USA body tub mass produced. The tubs I build are exact in every detail but very expensive to hand build a complete tub.
Shagbark. It is a local lumber and feed store and that is where I got some of the trailers from. We have a lot of Shagbark Hickory trees in this area and that is where the name came from for the store.
we have been after them for many years to make changes but they never would listen because they were the only company making body tubs. I bet they are feeling the loss of business now with SGI selling them.
Yeah I struggled with two of their MB/GPW bodies in the past. The earlier ones were really poor but over the years they did improve a little, though not enough in my opinion.
They are working on the early CJ5, M38 and M38A1 right now. I am not sure what other bodies they are thinking of making right now. They are super busy and having a hard time keeping up with orders already.
2900 for the body and 3800 for the full kit. Off the top of my head that seems competitive with the pricing of the crappy bodies. I may have to spring for one of these. Now I’m conflicted inside about what to do lol
Dear Mr. Shaper..... you keep saying you dont have any friends..... Shit.... Id be your friend..... you and I seem to have the same eye for attention to detail..... yours is way better than mine but im just starting out on these old jeeps....Im an old 1st gen Bronco guy..... but id sit down with you and share a bourbon or a beer.... or an iced tea with you ANY day..... if you are ever in Texas..... Ive learned the most from a man named Don Richmond..... he owned a shop in miramar California.... german cars..... and from Ed Slate.... he had a shop in Cupertino California..... he built super modified cars and owned gas stations.... the old kind that worked on cars.... the sodas were probably warm.... (no convenience store)..... and my old shop teacher..... Loved that old guy..... any way..... you say you have no friends.... Im your friend. keep your videos going.... as ive been out of the business for more than a few years.... Im putting my tools to good use again.... and you are the inspiration. Would love to meet ya...... (BTW..... has anyone ever told you you sound like Sean Hanity?) Eric.
Thanks Eric, great to hear from you. I seem to have more good UA-cam friends than I do local folks. Not many people around here with the same passion for the things I do, so always good to meet like minded people.
Price was $3800 for kit plus shipping, but as I understand from Pete the prices are up due to the crazy shipping cost on this last container. If you want one now is the time to get one.
@@metalshaperJeep yeah I found it late last night. I wonder how that window frame will fit? Especially on an original tub. Thanks so much for your response and help.
@@retiredafce3373 I tried the windshield frame on the tub yesterday on the new tub and it fit perfectly. I also put it on a good original tub and it fit perfectly on that one also. They have the cowls made the same as originals and are making the windshield frames to fit them.

You will be very pleased with the tub and parts when you get them, much, much better than the other bodies.

SGI is still the best body tub/kit out there. I would never use anther MD Juan tub if I had the option of an SGI tub.

Yes, the tub and parts are great
Looking forward to see how all lines up! Don't apologise! Tell it like it is!!
More to come, thanks for watching
Do you know if SGI has fixed the transmission fit issue?
Thanks Dutch
Will the cj2a fit a mb chassis or are the mounting locations different
I’m curious, what is the total weight of the sheet metal body is?
What kind of body parts do you have for Jeepster 1948

Pete has an enormous stock of NOS parts and goes the distance to source good parts that are being made out there.
Now if only someone would start making the early pickup cabs.

You mention a wire in the rim of the fenders? Is that something you can go over for us?
standard wired edge like most vehicles of the era.
Do you have a video where you show how you attach the tub to your rotisserie?
