T-Mac's his closest comp - he was a better athlete, but didn't. have Kobe's ferocity. So Kobe was no slouch when it came to jumping, just not as good as MJ. But his in-game dunks (particularly his dunks in traffic) are quite a bit more entertaining than MJ's. They're way more ferocious. Jordan never really cocked it back way behind his head and slammed it down like he was trying to murder the rim. I think that's the entire difference really. Kobe's in game dunks were just way more ferocious and angry, like he was trying to tear the rim off the basket, which make them more fun to watch. Jordan never threw it down with ferocity. He was more about grace. MJ's dunk contest dunks and fast break dunks blow Kobe's out of the water, because his superior vertical and flexibility in the air created such a graceful illusion of flight. Kobe's facial dunks were way better though, since he looked like he was trying to murder the defender, the defender's family, and the rim.
When you consider the catalog of dunks, the leaping ability, athleticism. physicality, versatility, and ferocity, it is hard to place anyone AHEAD of the mamba as a dunker
