Had fun swapping positions with you in beginning, and btw you are pronouncing it correctly lol....looking forward to more battles throughout the season letsss goooo!!!
You did great out there. Im looking into starting in our local series soon. Lacc 2021 here i come! I've been buying basket cases and right now I have 99 cr125. Eric gorr will do a 144 and port job while I swap out the crank that let go
FMF pipes from my experience made my yz250f deeper in sound instead of high pitch. I personally love the FMF pipes because of the deep grumble they make
definitely. They may not produce as much peak HP as some other "race" brands, but they are a great compromise between power and sound levels. Usually a real nice deep bark. Something most 250s miss.
First time watching a video from your channel and it was awesome. Perfect balance between talking and riding, not annoying, funny comments, keeping it real - thanks 👍🏻
Hey Zach, watching your videos is what motivated me to start racing enduros and harescrambles, and while typing this I’m waiting for my start time to come for my first enduro! Keep up the good work!
@@MF9-h4j because these bikes are annoyingly loud. Restricting them doesn't create a safety hazard, especially since its a spark arrestor. If anything it is more safe. The 4.1 also has a throated sound so it is easier to listen to for me. The stock pipe is really good but sounds like garbage
If you tap the starter button real quick after shutting it down for the start the fuel pump primes and the system is ready and it will fire up instantly when that flag drops!!!
Hey men, great job running that 2F around. I do the same thing as you but here in Quebec it's called cross-country (don't ask me why). I ran a yz250 last year and this year a yz250FX, so jumping from 2stroke to 4stroke and the ''enduro'' version. Did my first practice yesterday and men it's a dam good machine. So much traction everywhere, less arm pump and that E start as well saves so much energy. Since im always in 2-3 and sometimes 4th gear i don't feel like the 6 gear is very usefull during the race, but the ratio of the bike is on point. I love that high second and low third gear the switch between the both of them is smooth, very usefull when you are in roots and rocks. I will definetly check your videos again! Ride safe, or not.... (Pardon my english)
Still love your videos to this day. You got me into wnyoa when I was on a 65 and now we are in the same class crazy how things turn out thank you Zach!
Something that helped me get faster on my KTM 250xc-f was to throttle on downhills, its weird, but thats how you carry speed with super engine breaking, power on the downhills
That race looks Awesome man!! Nice and muddy!! Stay with the 4 stroker baby!! Once u figure it out u wont for back and will luv it!! 4 stroke for life!!
I'm not sure what you're fuel economy is like, but I think a larger tank than stock would be a great idea. The fmf is much, much quieter and it sounds great so definitely do that.
12:45 the fmf is a bit quieter. A full system (header and slip on) makes a huge difference in power, and the power is still very usable and not uncontrollable. If it’s hard to make yourself purchase the full system with it being so expensive, the slip on still makes a noticeable difference.
Good job Zach! Been watching your videos for a while and it's always entertaining. Cool that you are on the 250f. I've been into the two strokes since last summer, previously owning a 525 MXC. At 58 that was too much for me on technical stuff so went to a 300 rr Beta. Loved that so much just picked up the 200rr this week. All that said I just sold a 2008 XCF-W 250 that I had as a loaner bike ( funds for the 200!) That 250 was kind of shocking as to how hard it pulled, very surprising. Imagine the 2019 is that much better! If you get a chance to try the 200rr Beta it is a kick! Frame, size and weight of a 125 with a torquey 200!! I'm no longer 58!
Get some foam ear plugs. Dont choke the beast. Great result really. The suspension didn't scare you, so that is a plus. I am guessing you felt pretty fresh still at the end for lack of crashes and near death experiences. Lol
Bob "Hurricane" Hannah in a pinch raced a box stock YZ 250 ... right out of a crate from a dealership. They added fluids, set the rear sag at 4"... and Bob ran it!With NO after- market go-fast parts... against high dollar one-off works bikes, custom tailored to each rider, with countless weeks of testing and setup. Bob kicked ASS! Too many riders today think that they can only win on whatever happens to be the HOTSHIT bike of the moment.
I ride a 250f with an fmf pipe, love the deeper sound it barks out. Also, uncork that bike, throw some great shoes on it and you will really love the way it runs and handles. Tires were the best mod I made, period dot, on my 250f. Also, these bikes love to run in the mid to upper revs...
Great to see you enjoying a four stroke. From my experience you will probably need to ring its neck a little more as the 250 needs to be in its sweet spot to give you what you need. Also try raising the forks up 4mm to see if that helps in the tight stuff. The only disadvantage of the F over the FX is gearing. F gearing will be a little high in the gnarly sections. You can go go up 2 teeth on the rear which helps a lot but you will lose top speed. Enjoy the Yamaha. Great bike. I went from a 450F to a 450FX and i'm glad I did.
Big fan of the FMF "Q" series on both my 4 strokes, and 2 strokes. I personally have a Q4 mated to a Power Bomb Header Pipe on my KX450F. Great power curve, and more enjoyable sound tone and level.
Zach I know you're getting used to the new bike but you gotta sit more forward on the bike and let the back end slide out more when cornering. That allows you to get on the gas sooner when coming out of corners.
Just picked up the Beta 200rr, if you get a chance to ride one take it. They are a blast! Almost the same weight and frame of their 125 but great usable power!
I have a new yz250f, suspension for me just had to be adjusted a few clickers and has one softer race tech spring in the left fork. (Top 30 overall Light B harescramble Racer). Not quite as quick as Zach yet (im 18) but i love the KYB SSS. I feel that especially in races where they stick a moto track in the middle of it which is quite often around here the suspension handles it really well even though its softened up for the woods. I've overjumped some doubles and tables by a long shot a few times and its gone all good.👍🏻planning to move up to A class in 2020
I know this is an old video and you're now talking about selling the 4-lunker, but I've got an FMF on my FX and it only made it quieter on the bottom. Once it's revved out, it's as loud as the stock exhaust.
Now this is what 4 strokes are for. I recently gave up ripping 4 strokes at high speed to rip a 2 stroke 300 tpi at slow speeds straight up mountains. Much more fun imo. Great vid, great race great commentary. My only tip would be, shift less and and get to the top of those gears. Ur throttling like it’s a 300 where 1/4 turn is all u need. Crank that thing out
I'm in same situation. Ran my 1st HS in like 27yrs, my '19 yz250f didn't start (gave everyone at least a 5sec head start🤪). I'd rather have a kick start... and tips on better starts with yours? 🛑 please let me know on your fuel consumption for a 2hr race 🛑 I added 1/2 gallon on last lap but didn't need to. Great videos 👍🇺🇲👍🇺🇲👍
curious, why didn't you just get a yz250fx? I wish we had harescrambles like this where I live. What we have here is tight single track areas and then tight double track, and it's pretty much enduro and not so much Harescrambles. I would like more tracks like you are riding, and other harescrable guys i see on youtube, minus the rain and mud lol. That was fun to watch, you got yourself a new sub.
I assume you know this, but if you increase your idle spped it will reduce your engine braking. That might help a bit in the transition to the 4 stroke.
Congrats on a clean run...great commentary. I'm from the Pacific northwest, so your accent was cracking me up (no disrespect) I kept imagining the sopranos. Ignore the haters.
I still have a bad habit of holding in the clutch on the 2 stroke going down hills from riding a 4 stroke. Unless your planning to lock the rear it just makes the 2 stroke want to cut out due to the float bowl
Zach I am in the market for this exact bike former AA enduro. What were your complete thoughts on the bike besides being loud as hell. Did you like the traction and handling or was it a pig compared to your 2 stroke. Really could use your honest input. I had a 14' with no estart and it was super loud. Motor was awesome, stalling was a problem and the front end feel was light. I was more curious how it was in the tighter sections if you thought you were much faster on the 2 stroke. Thanks!!!
It seems like the newer YZs after about 2014 have much heavier front ends, and when you're on mud or sand, it's far easier for the front tire to lose control

The FMF 4.1 with the spark arrestor insert quiets it down a ton, much more enjoyable
Why would you ever quiet down a dirtbike? Sounds like a safety hazard.
I wouldn't guess that the FMF pipe would quiet it down much, I would figure the best option would be the LEXX, but I ride two strokes so I dunno

I have a 17 yz250f and the air box is like a bark box in your lap. And yes an fmf pipe does quiet it down a bit but not that much
I'm not sure what you're fuel economy is like, but I think a larger tank than stock would be a great idea. The fmf is much, much quieter and it sounds great so definitely do that.

turn your idle up for less engine braking. I like it a lot. had the same brak pads for 15 years

A rekluse auto clutch will help with the engine breaking if you wanted to go that route.
