Thanks for the video. Two questions to be clear you should have a clear passage with coolant coming out where the sensor is threaded? I have 93 Cheyenne single cab short bed with a 4.3 2wd do these have electronic spark control module and if so would it be near the map sensor like this truck if that is it?
@@EfurdGarage thank you ok I know which one. I did pull the sensor out last night and if your not almost empty on fluid be ready guys and girls. I actually had some kind of plug formed from something and once that was moved it was flowing like a waterfall.
My problem is I have a blue one coming from the look by the starter That’s disconnected and a grey one near the fire wall they both have the same style connector
What year? I have only ever found one. I have had a few of these. cant recall what colors all of them were. But i would check the loom and see if at one point it was split or wire into.
Well usally symptoms are low power, randomly shutting off. Stumbling. Basicly if it is going bad it puts it in a primitive limp mode retarding the timing or shutting the spark off. Its basic old school style system so you just pour in coolant i let it run with cap off and add until the radiator is full. Replace cap add to overflow and after it gets up to temp or cool down your overflow will tell you if you need to add some more.
Hey brother, I'm looking to change the knock sensor too, but my car doesn't have the harness, I think it was cut and I don't know where it's connected, I already have my knock sensor and the harness, but I don't know where the harness is connected
@@EfurdGarageppreciate your help I to think I may have snap this wire when I was installing my starter do we know what color this wire should be? Factory harness was cut after an engine swap
@@tacoloco904 i cant recall off the top of my head. i got on out back right now but its dark, im also in the middle of trying to edit and make a dead line for the pontiac nationals videos so as soon as i get a free second i will check it
This one is a bit trickey, knock sensor retard the timing to prevent damage when it senses a knock. so lack of power/acceleration. The first on i had that had one failing would hesitate and die randomly and hard to start. Almost like i lost fuel pressure.
Mine stumbles and dies and shifts funny when climbing a bill but only with coolant temp sensor plugged in does unplugging disable knock sensor because it runs fine with cts unplugged
having that unplugged would not disable another sensor. when you unplug the cts it acts like the engine is cooler and throws more gas. i would check fuel pressure first your pump maybe getting weak. transmission shifting may or may not be affected because of the way its currently running
@@adenseay7406 mine does the same thing when stopped it starts to idle rough and rpm move a bit and dies unless i keep some gas on it also it shifts funny on hills
Appreciate you getting right to the point !
Thanks!
I thought it was great camera work! You perfectly captured the knock sensor and it's location. As always you make the job look simple. Great Video!
Thanks Will! i try i just dont always feel i get the best shot. sometimes it is just easy.
My 94 still has the original knock sensor. I have a new AC Delco for it if it ever dies. Mine only has just over 40,000 original miles though.
I have a feeling the wiring may need replaced before the sensor at this point lol but 40k miles is good

Your welcome, yes should be clear. also the ignition control module on this is in the distributor cap

@@erik-i1k most likely rust and such build up over the years like you see sometimes in the radiator.
Hey I noticed your wire is grey isn’t the color for the wire blue? Coming from the starter loom

But what is the torque spec?
no more then 14ftlbs typically. 8-12 on average with red lock tight
What were your symptoms? And how did you bleed air out of system(how long etc) . I have 85 caprice tbi.

It usally runs down with the wires to the starter so check inside that wire loom

The knock sensor wire connects to the starter?
@@gera2396 no it runs down the back of the block in the same wire loom as the starter wires.
