100% onboard! The wind in the Willows would be amazing! For the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, you should professionally record it simultaneously. You could really sell that as an audiobook, I think your voice is just perfect for such a thing... Even hearing you smoke a pipe on the recording would just be just as amazing.
I came to say the exact same thing. A recording of you in a story telling situation. Hopefully with a few people to hear the ruslings and movement, smoking a pipe, sipping your drink, hearing the pages turn. Oh that would be heaven. I have such found memories of sitting on the floor listening to mum reading a chapter of a book. (Wind in the willows, Winnie the pooh, and so many others). Audio books are great, but if you can make it with the ambience of a story teller... It could be something quite quite special!!
I am thrilled Malcolm. The Chronicles of Narnia, I have no doubt, will be on your list. Your last video alleviated my anxiety and gave me a feeling of comfort that I have never experienced before. I have recently come back to Jesus and the way you read chimes so well with my new way of living in Christ. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
Dear Malcolm, as a Norfolk vicar I often read your poems to the wednesday congratulations. So delighted to have accidentally found your channel and this lovely video about Dickens. Kindest regards and gratitude. Marc
Lovely idea. Every 1st December I begin to read the Carol for my bedtime book. The same morning I start my annual trek through your Waiting on the Word. Marvellous!
Even though we've never met, you have the feeling of an old dear friend to me. I truly enjoy sitting down and watching your videos with my full attention. A great sense of calm and peacefulness always fills the room as I'm watching. May the holy spirit always be with you. Thank you
Your video is very much appreciated I definitely support your thoughts on narration of great books as you're wanting to share. This channel since I first began watching has felt like a cozy cabin in winter. 👍
Hi Malcolm I found myself getting tearful when I realised where your video was going. What a gift! Five years ago this Christmas I started the tradition of reading a Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve. I read it in four stages through the night and into the morning. It's a real joy to do. So, I was overjoyed by your announcement. I would happily listen to you read the phonebook. So, count me in!
I'm so excited! A Christmas Carol is my favourite of Dickens' stories! My mom usually reads it to my brother and me every Advent or Christmastide, all of us are thrilled to hear you read it to us this year!
This idea of yours seems so perfect, I wonder that no-one thought of it before. Yes, yes to it all. I don't suppose it would be possible to stream you reading individual chapters in front of your fireplace, but might I suggest you think about it? It would be as though we were invited into your home to listen to a favorite story being read to us by a beloved father or grandfather or uncle or friend. I know I'd enjoy it.
My dear Malcolm, after happeningly coming across your little corner of internet rather recently, and by no meer chance i am sure, you have since instilled in me an enjoyment and love for poetry I have never had. Poetry has always been presented to me through schooling and things, but nothing I have gravitated to before. Since then I have had a drive to create poetry of my own on things I love and admire. Like Tolkien as an example. So I thank you dearly for that. God bless you good sir.
I would most definitely love to have such an opportunity! I do so enjoy listening to you as you share about your books and read from them while enjoying a good pipe and a drink! Wonderful idea for sure!
My favorite book since I was eight. (I read it at eight, and then The Hobbit right after.) I would love for this project to go on. I have a niece who gets me your books every Christmas--such a delight. I must tell a brief story: I have the non-fiction "The Man Who Invented Christmas", and--as you know--there is a passage where Dickens sits down with his first royalty payment hoping to "make a quick 1000 pound". He opened it...and it was basically a bill for the gilt covers and illustrations and the red and green. Well, the year after I wrote my first book and the blessed day of the arrival of my royalty statement came. I sat in my chair, adjusted my glasses, looked at the sum total...and re-adjusted my glasses again. I, too, had hoped to make a "quick 1000 dollars", but the debit line gave a paltry $112.50. I removed my glasses, looked Heavenward, and said, "Mr. Dickens, you have my sympathies." (I'm glad to say my royalties have gone up.) Anyway! I would certainly subscribe to hear my favorite book read aloud by you. It's been a hard year--I fell and broke a hip and needed a complete new one--and the physical therapy, while not excruciating, was still physical therapy. Your videos got me through many a therapy. Happiest of Christmases to you and yours, sir. I wonder what book of yours I'll get this Christmas.
Malcolm I had a premonition a mere two or three weeks ago, thinking how glorious it would be if you decided to read a Christmas Carol in pieces to your fans, and hear you are fulfilling that premonition! I would love to be a part of this subscription, I have my copy of a Christmas Carol ready to go!
I first came across the story through a Mr Magoo cartoon inthe early 1960s. I read this every year and agree about the reading of it. My favourite version is by Martin Jarvis but I look forward to your mellow tones.
Hi Malcolm. I just picked up your book of poetry about advent and plan on reading a poem a day. Thank you for all you do. Can't wait to hear you read more of Tolkien. Would love to hear you interpret Tolkien's Ainulindalë.
My 10yr old requested a copy last Christmas, and I found a lovely bound hard-cover version, which we are reading this year. Such fabulous witty writing and an important message. We had seen a stage production 2 years earlier which inspired his interest.
Malcolm -- I'm so EXCITED about this!!! I actually just checked out After Prayer as an audiobook so I could have the comfort of hearing you read aloud to me while I knit in the evenings (yay for libraries!)... This "Ghost of an Idea" of having longer reading visits is just brilliant! I love to read aloud The Carol to my sons every year (usually one stave at a time), and it will be such a treat to get to have you read it to us this year... I'm already planning hot cocoa and popcorn to go along with our cozy time with you and Dickens. (We'll be there for any further books you take the time to read to us as well.😁❤️) Oh my goodness, I'm so very, very excited!!!!!!!!!!!! 🎉❤🎄❤🎉 (Quick edit: found the "join" button and subscription is completed - woohoo!!!!!🎉🎉🎉)
I have carried the story of the Christmas Carol in my heart, pass, present, and future.. when I feel down and unworthy, I remind myself and God of the line “ why show me these things if a man doesn’t have a chance” ? Not a direct quote, but the meaning has always stuck to my heart and has offered me a sinner much needed hope ..indeed, my most favorite story of conversion and hope
What a wonderful idea Malcolm! My colleagues like to playfully tease me when I watch your videos and ask, "How is your friend doing?" Well! I will let them know that I am following along in a book club with "my friend" ! All the best, I do hope you can get approved for reading these works with us.
How lovely to see this! I am ecstatic to see that you are going to read a Christmas Carol! This is a brilliant idea, and I look forward to it. Wishing you and yours all the very best from your Canadian friend. Cheers
I kept seeing this LOTR character get recommended so I finally decided to watch. And he even mentioned LOTR lol. LOTR was a documentary about the UK and I won't be convinced otherwise.
I think that would be grand for you to read longer sections of our beloved classic books. Definitely read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and then of course the Lord of the Rings with all its beautiful poetry and dramatic adventure. You read with feeling and enthusiasm, making the hearing of the classic even more enjoyable.
when I hear the door knock I grab a long port, my pipe and Frog Morton tis an escape from this harsh world to be invited here for timeless memories, cheers bro.
Yes! Absolutely lovely idea! I will definitely sign up! Best channel on UA-cam! If only there were more like your channel that brings a light, fellowship and comfort around an amazing book. You are a true inspiration!
I'm a massive fan of Charles Dickens. Dickens got paid by the word. He wrote Christmas Carol in one hit. The publishers sent it back to be shortened. Dickens removed very little and that was it, published. Dickens wrote a lot about the poor and impoverished, as you said people were very charitable after the release of Christmas Carol I believe Dickens was an inspiration to get people enthusiastic to learn to read and write. He played a huge role in British education His humour never comes over on the TV productions. Well not the same as the books. Like in Bleak House he describes a large woman as "No stranger to a knife and fork" another woman who had let herself go. her hair was like the mane of the dustmans horse. The greatest love story ever written. A tale of two citys People do not seem to have changed much from those times to now, only advancements in technology

Honestly would love that

A definite purchase to be sure. Here's to hoping!
