    Hello Friends! So excited to share this Behind The Scenes look at how we put together this short horror film! It was the culmination of long prep days/nights and a late night shoot, and then scrambling for loooong night hours to edit and do the VFX work! So grateful for the insane team I had to help pull off these ideas!
    I was so excited to have an "excuse" to make this short! Huge shout out to Jakob Owens for putting together this massive contest and for giving other filmmakers a chance to showcase their work! It means so much! BUFFNERDS: / thebuffnerds
    And a special shoutout to my dear friend Jacob Dalton for coming through on the VFX work for me! I am always BEYOND stoked everytime we collaborate, and this was no different! Go give him some love: / @jacobdaltonvfx

    Could I ask how you lit the scene? I’ve been trying to plan a scene that’s also set at a campfire at a forest during night but can’t work out how to simulate moonlight on a low-ish budget like you did!! Thank you so much!

    When our short didn't make the top 25, yours was one that I hoped would place! Killer work. How did you not burn down the woods though? Ha.

    This was absolutely amazing to watch and learn the processes of what you and your crew did. As a current Media Production student who wants to pursue in Filmmaking, I look up to you and others who execute these films so flawlessly. I wish to do the same, but with having no connections, limited equipment (only having a Mirrorless EOS M50), and lack of confidence in myself I do not know where to begin in pursuit for my career.

      Hey friend! Thank you so much for the kind words about the short film! And honestly, I would say just to stick with it! I grow with each year, and have PLENTY of shorts I'm not proud of. But it's all a part of the journey!
      And as for gear, I wouldn't stress too much about it! I didn't shoot with anything too crazy for this short either! I think a DSLR is more than capable! Just focus on figuring out a cool story hook and invest some time into learning lighting. I think those will serve you better than stressing about gear! The only lights I used was natural campfire/torches and about $300 worth of LED lights. So nothing that outrageous!
      I know you can pull even better stuff than this short, just keep at it mate!! :)

    Loved the film! Such a great idea and I love seeing the behind the scenes! 🙌🏼 Do you have a link for the lapel mics your actors wore?

    its crazy, I feel like I just went through the exact same stages producing my entry for this year's contest. Prepruducing and taking the time to plan shots out and choreograph everything really is a key factor in my opinion and makes everything look WAY more professional! Taking the time in post, to get the most out of each beat by layering all kinds of sounds on top of each other also helps so much transporting the story to the viewer!
    btw I use the exact same setup (sony a7iii, 16-35mm 2.8 GM) but for some reason my lowlight clips always have so much grain. I WOULD LOVE to know what your go to camera setup is: picture profile, SS, Aperture, ISO, SLOG/HLG...?!

    thanks for a sweet film and BTS! what was your full shoulder rig set up? and did you manual pull this while rigging it? made it look so smooth

    fantastic job! you guys were my favorite of the 25, well deserved! out of curiosity, do you film with a picture profile? the night footage came out so clean on the a7iii!

    • @Josiahx
      @Josiahx  4 роки тому +3

      Thank you SO much!! I shot with profile 6 (PP6), Gamma HLG and Black Level +2. Color mode BT.2020. For me, this has been a solid profile for the stuff I usually shoot!! The short was shot at 1000iso, 40shutter and f2.8. Didn't do any de-noise, actually added a tiny bit of grain for the final render to add a bit of texture. But yeah, I was thrilled with how well it all got captured!

    This is so great! Congrats! Did you manually focus while shooting the entire thing or did you use auto focus with the a7iii ?

    • @Josiahx
      @Josiahx  4 роки тому +1

      I did both actually ha! I toggled between auto and manual depending on what I was doing! Because the auto is good, but I didn't trust it to land everytime when I needed it to. So yeah, I had one finger on the lens too pull focus and toggle. A little ghetto, but it worked!!

      THanks so much!! profile 6 (PP6), Gamma HLG and Black Level +2. Color mode BT.2020. For me, this has been a solid profile for the stuff I usually shoot!! The short was shot at 1000iso, 40shutter and f2.8. Hope this helps!! All shot on the sony a7iii. So nothing too fancy!
