Gloves is a big nono when working with a lathe, just because if you get clothing pulled into the lathe, your whole body gets pulled in, where as if your finger gets snagged, skin is tough and doesn’t get pulled in (as easily, lathes are dangerous). You’re completely correct about the eye protection tho. He probably needs hearing protection too.

@matthewpartain4771 he had multiple kidney stones operations over his lifetime, the first one being a huge 43mm by 26mm stone, but he was way too strong for all this.
Major setback happened in 2018 when he was having difficulties breathing & coughed some blood out. A doctor from one of the best hospitals in Bangalore injected him blood thinner to thin out his blood, but it was a very bad & irresponsible decision from the doctor.
He lost his senses for urine & stool, couldn't control them at all, and then he had multiple organs failed & died.

30 years ago this was my trade in Australia. It's called metal spinning and we were paid per peice produced. It later became automated and eventually like everything else went to China. Yes it was and is dangerous, myself stitches, swarf in eyes, broken teeth when the mandrel gave out and a peice hit me in the face. Workmates lost fingers and other factories other then the one I was at there were deaths. We had ppe, full Coverings, eye wear, gloves, ear protection, head covering. When I look back I made good money but I now think that was a high risk job. Glad it is mostly automated now.

You'd have to work the metal with a 10 foot pole attached to a whip check through a 1 inch hole with cut resistant gloves and a face shield all while holding the pedal to operate the turner.

The sad truth is that safety isn’t even an afterthought. The owner of the business knows that with a population of 1.5 billion people, it’s this worker’s tough luck if he injured himself rendering him unable to ever work again. Each employee is likely given that warning when they are hired. This is quite literally a country where workers are “a dime a dozen.”
