- People have enjoyed the tradition of camping in Yosemite for generations. However, getting a campsite in Yosemite is not always easy. Park Ranger Marea Ortiz gives an overview of what camping is like in Yosemite, and advice on how to get a campsite. For an audio described version of this video, go to • Camping in Yosemite (A...
I just got back from a trip here. Absolutely stunning. We came in on 3 motorcycles. They had no issue accomodating all 3 of us per one site. We didn't have any reservations rolling in either. Campsite availability was lottery based. The sooner you got there, the better your odds of landing one. Your odds of keeping the same site each day are slim, so each morning we would awaken at 6:30am to arrive at camp reservations at 7. (They open at 8am) to ensure we were first on the list for a cancellation we could quickly snag up. They were all in the valley at Lower, Upper or North Pines so moving wasn't a huge issue. Good luck to those traveling soon.
Please clean up your mess if you camp here. I'm tired of seeing empty beer cans everytime I come to this park. Take responsibility for your actions, people.
Long live Yosemite.

Absolutely one of the best National Parks to camp in, especially at Crane Flat. Crane Flats is located in the north-western region of the park. I've camped in the valley before, and there it feels as though your camping on top of each other. If you want privacy while still being within a 30 minute drive of the valley, I suggest Crane Flat.
Sheety33 I love Crane Flatt Campground ⛺️ my grandparents brought their kids going camping up there every summer and us grandkids and we all plan to bring our future children camping every summer... we just love it there it’s a family tradition. ❤️
This place is popular, we got lucky with no reservations
I have always wanted to visit. Thanks for the tips!
My family and I stayed at Housekeeping Camp the end of April 2012. It was gorgeous right on the river and was not crowded at all. We did plan a few months ahead and made a reservation. Can't wait to visit Yosemite again!
WARNING! Bear lockers in full sun quickly become extremely hot inside. Excellent ice chests and lots of ice are required to prevent spoiled food. Block ice lasts much longer. Ice in Yosemite Valley cost three times what it does outside the valley, and block ice has been scarce in the valley. You must plan for this! Consider making your own block ice at home.
Why can’t I just walk in and place a tent there lol
Went there for my honeymoon. Happiest time of my life.
then you went to reality... Give this man a Beer!!!
Most excellent place ever
I really love Yosemite and the people there are friendly and willing to work with you. My only pet pev would be all the camp fires burning at nite that makes for bad smokey air you can't escape at times due to the very very close campsites -make sure to close all your windows if possible. Happy Camping love
It's too bad, back when I was a kid we had no problems just driving in and getting a sight. Unfortunately now you have a million people that want to camp and only a limited number of sites.
They say I have a ADD, they just don't understand... Oh, look a squirrel! 3:26

one more critter from left at 3:30 :D
this comment is so old the time stamp doesn’t even highlight blue
You can deter bears from entering your camp site with a portable electric bear fence. Small kit that brings huge peace of mind.
It was a daikini from movie Willow😂🤣 @ 3:30 in background upper right lol
as far as I know only in upper pines campground (if you are camping). I don't think dogs are allowed on trails or in other touristy areas...so if you are camping and bringing a dog be prepared to leave it with someone at the campground or in a trailer/rv while you explore. I may be wrong about some of this, so it's best to check the government website.
we used to camp in yosemite every single year from the time i was 2-16...i think we usually stayed in upper or lower pines cant remember which
What about Bigfoot watching?
I'm planning to go in two weeks not reservation
Check out the annual YOSEMITE FACELIFT in late September. Organized by the Yosemite Climbing Association and the National Park Service.
Very weak as far as information. What all newcomers want to know is what website do I make my advanced reservation at??
Why not at least mention if any campgrounds outside the Valley require reservations during peak season?
Big help! Thanks' for making the video and sharing
Good eyes!! Never would have noticed it without your tip!! Fox maybe?
How far off the trail do you need to get to avoid rangers and stealth (sorry, real) camp?
I mean, if you have toilets, running water, a fire pit and car parking, it's not exactly camping... is it?
In doing so, assuming you are strict with your food and waste drill, storing that 30ft downwind from your tent.... are bears a significant problem?
Bears in Yosemite are known to be quite problematic as many of them are used to people and their vehicles. If you want a more remote camping experience you can just go backpacking in the Yosemite wilderness area, it’s not like you need to be in a designated campsite you just need to be somewhere within a nautical mile of a road.
yes! they're only allowed on paved trails, like the bike trails, must always be under your control so you can't just leave your dog in an RV
3:20 something runs down hill behind her edit: it has a long bushy tail, small, you can see in 720p hd
ALLAROUNDALLSTAR21 - it's a squirrel
It was a daikini from movie Willow 🤣😂
We used to go there and camp when I was like 4 yrs old, 57 yrs ago. I'm sure it's changed sense than lol.
The main problem is that there are people who think it is okay to play horrible music on their portable devices. Fifteen years ago that would have been on boom boxes and such. I always think of the slogan "Keep Yosemite Wild" -- of course that is hardly possible in the Valley. My first time there I was surprised to see both a pizza parlor and an ice cream store. (How wild is that?)
Muy bonito paisaje
Also, they have friendly bears ,you wake up middle of night and they looking down at you asking, you have any food?[trust me, i know].
Bear proof food lockers i think that just put me off going to the campsite
The Bears are so used to people they don't harm Anyone. When I was a kid they opened up the lock on our ice chest and took the cap off the bottle of ketchup and drank it and also a all of our hamburger.
Yosemite is great, some jerk at a Tahoe campground yelled at me at around midnight scarring me and causing people to think I was the one who did something wrong??????!!!!!!!!!! I been to Yosemite on several occasions and never had a bad experience with anyone!!!!!! I feel Tahoe was allll about money and not about nature, I still enjoy Tahoe, I went to campground from hellll however ✨
Good to know
If you want the typical freedoms that come with a camping trip then do not camp in Yosemite valley. Camping in the valley is just asking to get harassed by rangers.
We actually had a ranger try to kick us out for "ignoring his orders" because we had charcoal burning. He tried to tell his buddies that we had a "large fire" (you aren't allowed to have a fire in the morning but charcoal is fine).
What if you show up with 8 people at the gate and you've already reserved a spot and payed for it and show up on time. Will they still be able to give us our campsite?
Jaime Pena fr wondering that too
What about real camping? They failed to mention the rules of camping at non-designated camp sites in the wilderness. Can we camp anywhere 100 feet from a trail and water source?
missing 411
Who else saw the critter at 3:22?
Looked like it was on a skateboard.
If I come will I be guaranteed of seeing Yosemite Sam ?
And what about Yogi and Booboo ?
Yogi and BooBoo are in Jellystone!
@@NanaSevers Yes, true.
it says they are allowed in developed area but not the wilderness
It's only wiser to make it easier.
Well, six people and two cars,,, I wonder if that would equal 6 people and three bikes? Something to look into.
Wow... Marea is such a beautiful woman 😍I think I am going to apply as a Park Ranger ;)
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
so pretty I wanna go back
Never been and in need of advice. We've got a trip and tour video to Yosemite in the planning stage and are curious about which campsites offer the best opportunities for hiking and cycling. We're sure there aren't any bad options, but are there any that perhaps are better? Anyone?
Campgrounds in Yosemite Valley (Pines Campgrounds and Camp 4) are the only ones near bike paths. Valley campgrounds also have plenty of trails nearby, but that's also true of most campgrounds, especially Tuolumne Meadows. Getting a campsite is the most difficult part--it probably makes sense to accept any campsite you can find. Visit www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/camping.htm for more information.
yosemitenationalpark
Is there any free campgrounds in Yosemite?
Mike Jones LOL.
Mike Jones There are no free campgrounds in Yosemite. Visit www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/camping.htm for more information.
Wonderful campsite.
Do you need the entrance fee?
still charged a entrance fee along with campsite fee.
Don't disappear
The running water, toilets, dump stations and built in firepit/grills is nice but until they pave the camp spots with blacktop, I don't really consider it camping!
how much is it to say for the summer for a family
please someone respond do they allow dogs in yosemite
Elmer!!
Elmer!!🏕🏕🌲🌲🌲🏕🏕
I wonder if the Campers still tell Elmer at night??

would you recommend camping at little yosemite valley the night before hiking half dome for someone who has NEVER backpacked before?
in good shape, but no experience.
thanks!
You probably have found the answers to your questions by now, but short answer is yes but camp sites limited, reservations and permits required.
www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/lyv.htm
Squirrel Alert!!! 3:29 :D
Anyone familiar with the rv sites in Upper pines? Hi! I wanted to get a trailer that is 25' since i plan to frequent yosemite all year round but the rv trailer i really like is 28' :(
In your opinion do you think there are any sites in upper pines that can NOT fit a 28' trailer?
"Reservations can be 5 months in advance and sell out in hours." Why is it so hard to live outside like a homeless person? I would love to camp but it sounds like a big pain in the butt! Everything in America is so difficult that's why I moved overseas.
FREE AT LAST FREE AT LAST! Because some people are selfish slobs and need rules to prevent them from ruining it for the rest of us.
Glad you moved please take more people with you.
What about Bikers??? only 2 bikes?
so is backpacking just not possible here because of full campgrounds?
Wilderness permits required
www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wildpermits.htm
What time does the park open?
So I don't get it can you just go there and set a tent or hammock up in the woods ?
fog360 Bushcraft nope, only on campgrounds
Joseph Mauricio Flores ok thanks,
Is there any national park where u can set a tent wherever u want or is it everywhere like this ?
I think most National Parks allow backpackers to setup camp along the trail in the backcountry, but there are rules you'll need to follow and permits you'd have to obtain. There are also public lands that allow you to drive your off-road capable vehicle into the backcountry and allow dispersed camping in certain remote areas, (like Death Valley National Park) but each park and piece of public land has their own set of rules about these things so you'd have to do your research. There is also an inherent risk with entering and camping in remote areas so be sure that you are well prepared before attempting it!
Hmm, I see where you're coming up with that figure, but not everybody rides double... I think it should be 6 people 6 bikes...since 6 bikes would take up no more room than 2 cars would...
Reducing impact on the environment is the main reason you cant, and the main goal of the national park service. People camping all over the park would ruin the natural integrity.
cuanto cuesta la reservación por día alguien me puede ayudar
Leonel Rodriguez 6 dólares por persona por noche
Is there a limit on how many tents can be on a site?
There is no limit to the number of tents, as long as they all fit into the campsite and there's not more than six people in the campsite.
Can I just live there year round?
Become a park ranger or volunteer.
America, land of the free, where you need to get a flipping permit to camp out in nature, that is, if you're lucky to get one.
And if it was free and you can camp wherever you want.. it would be a shit show even more than it already is during the summer time
well, you keep the idiots out some how.
Hello, my friends and I need a camp site for 10 people, can we take 2 sites next to each other, if available? Are the people per camp rules more relaxed in the higher elevation camp sites?
The six-person rule applies to all campgrounds in the park. If you can get reservations for two campsites next to each other, that's fine.
+yosemitenationalpark im from Uk. I Wanna go there. what is the cost?
+pulgar arriba zona 209 i
think its 20 dollars for entrance
Sounds like a big, giant pain in the ass to me.
is there dispersed camping
no
I'm scared
never seen a hot park ranger before :)
Anyone know where I might locate the campsite pictured at aprox 2:10?
2 grey animals running down the hill behind her 3:22 and 3:30?????
That might work, but, you have to remember, we're dealing with the U.S. Government here. Very little is as it should be. ;-)
Tried two years in a row to get campground and failed, did all my research, computers ready and clicked in at exact time requested and it was sold out within a few seconds! Very disappointed, I used to go all the time, but in the last few years it seems impossible..... Check out John F. Kennedy @ Yosemite, 1962 on UA-cam.... Like I said I've been coming a long time.
Steve Klein isnt there any other national park where u dont have to go through all this procedure and just set up your tent wherever u like ?
Wyatt Hunter I’m camping at Huntington lake in the Sierras and Sunset Beach on the central coast, but neither are Yosemite, not even close in beauty and activities.
a much for day
?
Too bad , the rangers at Yosemite don't tell people how many go missing in Yosemite under very mysterious circumstances are never found , read Missing 411 books by Dave Paulides . Yosemite is the worst national park for clusters of missing persons not attributed to simply getting lost or animals or accidents . Lots of missing children , one moment there on the trail with their family and the next moment gone forever , never to be found . What mysterious force is taking people of all age groups and experienced hikers as well who know these trails also go missing ?
I saw that episode of the X files too.....
They are all with Hoffa
"People have enjoyed the tradition of camping in Yosemite for generations. However, it's now virtually impossible for you to camp anywhere and if you have young children that you'd like to initiate to camping.. like you've done for 40 years in Yosemite, too bad. We've closed everything, set up enough regulations to keep most people away, and made it impossible to enjoy the valley without a year worth of reservations and a phonebook sized stack of permits and regulations that you can't get anyway because they are all booked also." Thought I'd fix your statement for you.
Donovanhal wtf are you talking about i got the best site in Wawona in about 30 seconds on feb 17th. 30 mins from the valley you have to leave your site early in the AM and get to your trail by sunrise. that easy and i havent even been yet
3:21 & 3:28 what was that behind of you ?! it was a fcking jaguar ?!
Tug Ork dude, there are TWO ANIMALS RUNNING behind her in the woods next to the campsite as she's speaking! I think they're coyotes, but honestly, they could be young bears? Can't believe you spotted them, good job!
Sounds like a pain in the ass
Its kinda sad that this much bs planning needs to go in to being in scenic nature
Yoes miter
are hungry bears save ??do they ever kill people ? will i guess if they do the bear lovers are right -it's the bear's environment not humans LOL
Who the hell drinks water from a creek looooll!

I had a guy offer me $100 for my spot, as he claimed his family had camped there for twenty years plus. Too bad, buddy! Also, don't smoke weed at your campsite. Assholes will call the rangers on you! They are lucky I am nice,. or their tent might have 'caught on fire'!
arklat you're a fucking dimwit. why would you burn down someone's tent because they don't want to smell illegal drugs
niklus0110 niklus0110 since when was weed illegal in California? LOL
