Like yourself and many other crafters, I have a number of things in my stash that I am not using right now. However, I like to look at them as "Art that has not yet manifested". I rarely have the "oh why did I buy this" regret - I look at these things (my glitter collection for instance) and tell the glitter " it's not time for you yet, but I am getting there". Just surrounding myself with these things brings joy.

I questioned why I had so many products for card making when I only had so many friends and families to send cards to. However recently I got involved with a Facebook group whose members sends cards to ill or lonely seniors. Now I am really enjoying making cute cards and mailing them out. Very honest video- straight from the heart. I love and appreciate your honesty. I had to use all my strength to NOT buy the Minc and all the accessories and I'm so glad I held off. Ditto the Cinch. I have spent two years talking myself out of a Cinch. I put my hundreds of tubes of glitter (yes, I have twice as much as you) in clear salt and pepper shakers I buy at thrift stores and they look so gorgeous sitting on mirrored trays. I have at least five trays filled with salt and pepper shakers and still never use the glitter. Sigh, it's a disease all us crafters have. I do however find satisfaction in donating lots of my unused items to the library for their children's room and after school programs and they are very grateful for them. Makes me feel better about having so much stash. Hugs!

Karen, I enjoyed this because you explained why you wished you didn't buy them. I appreciate your journey from scrapbooking to cards and now mixed media. I am very much a mixed media artist, but I still make cards because they can make such a difference to a person who receives them. I no longer buy things that support card making, but do continue to make them for others. I find myself looking at things and thinking what if, or how could I use it. In those cases, I allow myself 3 of a new product. No more I then need to use it in 5 projects before I allow myself to add more of that line. Most of the time I find that I don't need, it because there is something similar or the technique just doesn't float my boat as I had hoped.

Keren, thanks for another informative video. Of course you are not the only artist who has bought supplies that are rarely used. Can you see how many of us have our hands up? I’ve been trying to use some of my unloved supplies in projects and I have an idea for my future. I’m going to put the name of each product on a slip of paper and put it in a jar. Whenever I start a project, I’ll pull a slip and, somehow I MUST use that product on the current project. Dimensional letter stickers make awesome texture in an art journal. I’ve stamped images in black on an unused background and die cut or fussy cut - great focal images. Why not add foil to the art journal page? Of course it will take us centuries to use our supplies but at least we are using them so our guilt level should go down. 😊

Tons of paper, etc. I’m lucky in that there is a place where I can donate these items that allows teachers to collects items for the art classes. I had to throw out things like sticklers, acrylic paints and other things that went bad. So what I learned from my purge was that if I really want something, I pause and really think about whether I really need it. Thanks so much for all your Creativation videos. I found you last year thro your show videos and stayed. You certainly made the most watchable videos this year too.
I’m looking in my cupboard and thinking I can’t buy any of the new products you showed because I’ve got so much I’ve still not used. I do think there’s a temptation to buy whole sets when actually I only use 3 out of 40 colours. I’ve unsubscribed from all the store newsletters and luckily all the craft stores are quite a journey so I’m going to try to use what I have and de-stash things I don’t like. I think buying craft items can be a bit of an addiction! I’m going to take stuff I decide to get rid of to our local scrap store which allows schools & care homes & kids clubs to come & choose art materials. I volunteer at a local care home so maybe I’ll see some of the old folk having fun with them. I think I’d sell the machines & whole unused kits like the foil stuff though. At least then you could justify buying the new stuff. Great to hear you getting ideas as you reviewed the products. Sometimes we just have too much and then don’t even think of the stuff in the cupboard & just keep re-using what’s out. Don’t feel bad about yourself. It’s a journey and you’ve learned something- that’s wonderful!!

This is so true also for me! After an initial spurt of buying almost everything I did stop myself and only bought certain things. However, I still have a lot of things I do not use and every now and again find myself putting things on my wish list. With me it is patterned paper, some dies, stamps and also embossing powders. I cut a lot on my Shilouette because I personalise cards and other makes. I also tend to make my own backgrounds with the colour preference of the recipient. So making a list and collecting the amount of ways to use items is a really good way to stop yourself from buying on the spur of the moment! Great idea!

Oh I hear you on the glitter stash! I need to find a purpose for mine. One thing I do is to keep an evolving list of art journalling ideas on my phone. Plus I went through and made an inventory of what I already have with notes about how they can be used. Maybe that would work for people who want to start using up some of their lesser used products. Another idea would be to have a specific journal for a particular product or a colour, I'm currently doing a monochrome journal and it's encouraging me to to go through my stash and pull out all the materials in black and white, including the ones I don't often use.
If you really don't use something and you can bear to get rid of it, you can either donate it (schools, youth groups and community projects are usually ecstatic to get art and craft materials) or you can sell it on Ebay. I recently got a load of embossing powders and a heat gun for a bargain price on there. That can also be a good way of testing out if you really want to get into something.

I totally agree that art and paper craft supplies differ from each other. I was really surprised that I had to spend a lot when I started paper crafting too. Using stickers in journals or on packaging, envelopes when you send things to friends or family is a good way to reduce supplies. Maybe sell the foiling stuff on eBay? Washi tape is something I have lots of but don't really use so am trying to add the new ones to giveaway prizes along with other stuff 😊 Tfs

When I first got started, every craft room tour included a whole expensive collection of copic pens. I don't like alcohol pens because they bleed through the paper. Enjoyed video and agree on all which I have most of except Minc; 3 foil colors only - use in mini albums and art journal by adhering glue and making splotchy speckles. Bought all mini distress inks but I do use more as I no longer just think of them for stamping and now use with water brushes stencils etc. True I use the black browns grays most but don’t regret the minis since I can also watercolor with them in small quick images so I’ve realized no more additional inks besides the permanent black brown. I loved stamps, have a lot / now I stamp all over tissue paper for collage paper and give them new life but no more buying stamps! :)

I've also been trying to use the idea of coming up with several different things that I would use say a particular stamp set for before I buy it. Or any product really. But then like you said you have to actually make the things. Sometimes things look fun and we think we'll use them and we just don't. I've decided with alcohol markers that I was determined to learn how to use them well. To that end I have taken a few coloring classes. I thought about 85 markers but about 30 of them I lucked out and got for $2 at Hobby Lobby when they were clearancing some out. I'm still not great at it but I'm a lot better than I used to be. I'm totally jonesing over your foils I do have some, but want to get some more of it. But please don't feel shame. We all have things we spent money on and have it used or haven't used as much as we should have to get our money's worth. It's simply a lesson learned but please don't feel ashamed. My son would probably get the heebie-jeebies just watching your video because glitter is his Kryptonite he hates it LOL I do like the idea someone said of making your own, or buying clear pastes and using the glitter in that. I haven't bought any glitter paste yet but I figure when I do I'll just get clear and then color them with my ink refills. I'm a card maker so I love all the colors of ink. I love these videos because it really does make you think about how much you will use something before you invest your money. We all fall into the "shiny" trap from time to time. I also have issues with my hands now so I love my Gemini Junior. I bought a big shot not too long after I first started paper crafting in 2005 so it has been well-loved and well-used but now I much prefer my Gemini Junior.

At the beginning of my crafty journey I felt I had to buy everything and I bought lot. After some time I found me using way less than I bought. I had shelves full of patterned paper and found me always making my own patternd paper because I barely found the right paper in my stock that matches what I'm looking for. I stopped buying patternd paper and started giving away all the paper packs I don't use. I stopped buying stickers, because I don't use them. I started thinking about my way of crafting and what I do really use. I have round about 200, or more, ink pads and I realized I don't need colored embossing powders, so I don't bought them and stopped thinking about which colors I maybe would need. In the last 6 month I would say I haven't bought any crafty item. I realized I don't really need all the stuff that's on the market. They don't fit my needs and my way of crafting. Since I realized this for me personally I enjoy my crafting way more than I did bevore, because not longer beeing sad about not using this or that I had spend my money on.

ya know, the alcohol markers are a true example of what really happened: lots of people love them. you need lots of them to get them to work, and you bought them thinking you would love them. On the other hand, I am the exact opposite: I bought the watercolor markers to try, and i never use them. I have the entire set of SN and now I also have Ohuhu and some copics. I hear you! I think crafters tend to do exactly what you have done. I have pearl x that I'm not even sure how to use! I would suggest you give away some of these products. Public schools could use some of the glitter that you don't use. As a card maker, I've been buying the clear stamps lately. They are so beautiful! I'd suggest you cull your stamps and give them as gifts or incentives to your subscribers or students.
I have a really old sizzzix machine the kind before the crank! I keep telling myself I'd like a big shot or the equivalent, maybe I should think about that!
Your pearl glues I'd do the same thing, go through what is still good and offer it to students. If you send things in the mail just ask your selected people to pick up the postage. I find it much easier to get rid of stuff if I think someone else might like to use it, and enjoy it. Oh, your Nuevo type drops that could also go to schools. Some large school districts have a central area that art teachers etc. can come and get supplies. Other districts you just give to the school and let the art teacher distribute use the supplies. You can just ask!

Buyer's remorse is an epidemic problem amongst paper crafters. I went to a scrapbooking retreat this fall. We played a game of truths. If the statement was true to us then we remained seated. If not true then we stood up. The statement was have we ever bought something and never used it. Out of over 100 women, all remained seated. It was funny at the time but now I'm thinking not so much. The money wasted and absolute guilt and shame of doing such a thing is huge. We as parents teach our children this very thing. Don't buy things your not going to use. Shame on us. We need to doing something about this problem. But I am at a loss as to what.

There's so much great content available online, I'm sorry you feel the need to go, you're certainly entitled to that. I hope you find the path to your creative journey!

please don't use a disability as a reason not to use your crank machines there are people who wish for things like that and can't have them for any number of reasons.

I donate a lot of my supplies to people that can't buy them so I would appreciate you not to judge me. I've had arthritis since I was 18 years old (I'm 45 now) and I'm allowed to say that this machine would not be good for someone who has arthritis or fibromyalgia as they would not be able to crank it. It's a tip for those people to help them buy the right machine. I hope you don't suffer from any ailment that prevents you from doing things, however many of my viewers do and they are always appreciative of any tips that help them create. If I were you, I would consider exercising more kindness and less judgement.

@@KerenTamir I actually have cp. And while I agree crank machines can be painful. Having to lose a lot of freedom and mobility due to lack of care in my area it's harder to craft with just scissors and a lot of my favorite stamp companies have gone to die and stamp sets. not your fault it just makes what i can use limited.
Sorry I came off so cruel

@@maryebert3884 I appreciate your comment and it is exactly the reason why I was saying that. I was recommending that if you're to buy a machine and you suffer from those ailments like RA, CT, FM then an electronic one would be best. Of course I understand some people can't afford it but I also know that some people have found older machines in craft sales and thrift stores. or even online on facebook sales. I hope you find one that's right for you
