  • I've borrowed this telescope from First Light Optics along with the StellaLyra Photo-visual Coma corrector to find out if f/4 is as scary as I remember?
    Video includes - first impressions out the box, overview of what you get and collimation test - I've failed miserably with the last two f/4 imaging Newtonians so maybe it will be 3rd time lucky!

      Thanks MrWacha, I'm sure I will, these GSO made Newtonians generally have very good mirrors, and I'm initially surprised it arrived close to collimated! That's a promising sign for the mirror cell! I hope you have a great night imaging M101, cheers!

    Awesome Chris!!! - Mate I can't wait to see how you enjoy that speed, imaging at f4 (or 4.4 rather as you mentioned with the 1.1x CC) can be a blast for sure, I've had a good few "quattros" over the years, always a bundle of fun haha! 😀
    The scope looks lovely by the way, a great package for the price!
    Out of interest, I don't know if was a trick of the light but is that primary mirror donut a sticker or rather an unaluminised donut like you'd see on some RC's? random question!
    Thanks for sharing matey and good luck for some clear skies!

    • @Astrolavista

      I tell you what Luke, I'm tempted to pin your comment two weeks in the row mate that's a brilliant spot with the primary mirror donut! :) I completely missed that it's un-aluminised! You can see it through the frosted back of the mirror and it looks really cool from the front, almost holographic! I'm going to hazard a guess that some care is taken to do this compared to popping a sticker on which is welcome at f/4 where it counts,,,, it should be nice and centralised.
      I didn't realise you've had several Quattro's in the past Luke! you're like me with telescopes by the sounds of it with many passing through the hands :D
      I'm going to need to order some spacers as the coma corrector has a back focus of 75mm which is a little unusual. Also the scope was a bit to heavy to balance with the one counterweight on the GEM45 so I will need to rig something up as the counterweights are out of stock. There are one or two peeps that want me to try imaging with Evo120 so I'll pop that on the GEM45 in the meantime : )
      Thanks for taking the time to watch mate, and I hope this weekend is a bit more relaxing for you :)

    I first seen this scope in the Orion branding, all black. Think this scope looks awesome in the thumbnail because it had black tube rings but in your unboxing video the tube rings are same colour as the dovetail bar. A small detail that may not bother some but would be a deal breaker for me. If could get this kind of scope with the black tube rings I would defo buy

      Hi J J, me also, I can't wait to use this scope. Thanks for the review! This one looks much better appointed than the 8" F4 GSO one I have :) I like the red dovetail and rings especially. The black color and the covered back are good touches too. The built-in dew shield might be a design feature? or not :D

      @@Astrolavista Well I enjoy your content and have been following for a while so thought I should join and show my support. I'm not sure about my scope being an older model, you're probably right. But I guess they do change up the appearance depending on re-seller. Mine is a GSO branded OG one :D it has Guan Sheng Optics written on it and has a white tube. It has great optics but was a nightmare to collimate, I had to install bob's knobs and when I was replacing the springs found that one of the original springs that hold up the primary were missing :P
      Anyway I do hope you get the most out of this one, I don't have the budget for a premium refractor nor have any way to get one loaned to me ;) so i'm newtonian all the way.

    • @k.h.1587

      @AstroLaVista they certainly do change over the years. The first one I ever got was a hardin star hoc 8-4, rack.and pinion focuser, not sold as an imaging tube, so the focuser had the extension built in to the 2" eyepiece holder and is wouldn't reach focus. I had a friend with the 12" dob version with the same focuser, but it had a more typical ring about 1cm or less thick, at the end of the drawtube. I was able to obtain one for not much money and was able to reach focus with the camera.
      I also had to get new rings because the supplied ones back then (2004) did not have holes on the top, nor a flat portion to drill any holes. I had planned on buying the orion guidescope rings and dovetail kit, that was designed to bolt onto orion rings spaced for either the short, or long sized orion dovetails. No saddles like more recent years, this was a budget option.
      One major improvement that came shortly after, other than the upgrade to machined crayfords rather than the typical sand cast rack and pinions (they were copying the vixen r200SS), was adding a center spot to the primary. Mine didn't have one.
      To solve the rings issue, I bought orion rings, but they were too big. A trip to home depot for some neoprene weather stripping, and some epoxy was a relatively easy fix, as the thin felt easily peeled off the rings, and still was able to be re applied to the epoxied neoprene.
      Yeah I was originally shooting film, with my nexstar 80gtl f11 optical tube as a manual guidescope with 12mm meade plossl reticle, all on a skyview pro dual axis eq5 class mount with 3 11# counterweights

    • @Astrolavista
      @Astrolavista  Рік тому

      Hi Krishna, I love the f/4 for imaging, not only does it capture images quickly it uses the same longer tube of the f/5 model and simply moves the focuser further down the tube creating a dew shield, I've had zero dew issues which is a big deal to me as I live in a damp country. However, I prefer f/5's for all round visual and imaging because they have less coma meaning sharper images off axis, and f/5's have a smaller secondary mirror so better contrast. Oh and f/5's hold collimation better. If I could only own one it would be an f/5, they make great all round telescopes :)

      Not yet, If only there were more hours in the day (or night thinking about it!). As I need to order a couple of bits to image with the 6" f/4 Newt, I could use the time to pop the Evo120 on the GEM45 to see if it balances ok? Is so I can give it a whirl! I'll need long exposures at f/8.3 so the GEM45 will be the tool for the job if it balances :)

    Sir please say the magnificent power of this scope,
    And please say the rate of this scope in indian money. Please sir

    • @Astrolavista
      @Astrolavista  2 роки тому

      Hi Babu, the magnification would only apply if you're using it visually with an eyepiece, in this case the magnification is the focal length of the telescope - 600mm divided by the eyepiece focal length. If you used a 10mm eyepiece the magnification would be 60x for example. For imaging most imagers refer to the focal length instead of power, but it's more accurate to think in terms of pixel scale. This is given by the relationship between the telescopes focal length and you cameras pixel size. E.g with my Fuji XT1 camera the StellaLyra 6" Newtonian will give a pixel scale of 1.6 arcsecond per pixel which is good.
      For a quote follow the link below, add the telescope to the online basked and proceed to the checkout where you can select India as the destination. This will then give you the price minus UK VAT plus the cost of shipping options. @@Astrolavistaapertura, zhumell, TPO, highpoint and Orion are the main sources. And I'm sure I am leaving out others. TPO is OPT's brand, and I bought one of the early ones when they were still about $200, on a black Friday sale fir $179, I got the f6 one to use as a visual scope, with plans on obtaining a gso 6"f8 secondary assembly, to go undersized and make it a planet killer. It turned out my secondary had astigmatism, and OPT said the only option was to swap the scope rather than just send me a new secondary. It was a long as drive so I didn't rush to take care of it, since it was still good up to 100x as a mini light bucket on my stellarvue M3 alt az mount, like a premium tripod mounted dob, it was a joy to use. I got it because I lived on a boat and only kept my M3 and 4"f10 celestron refractor, as well as my pronto and manfrotto tripod. Everything else was in storage. I wanted more aperture, and something inexpensive and low risk that could live in my car or on the boat.
      Unfortunately I got kicked out of the marina and when I was loading some guitars back into storage, some tweakers saw me and within a week or 2 I lost everything, so I never even got a chance to get the scope replaced
      But they won't come with red rings, but they are all made by GSO
