2015: The Internet - Ego Death
    2016: Frank Ocean - Blonde
2017: Tyler the Creator - Flower Boy
2018: Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
Incredible to see in succession, this group was not meant to stay a group. They were all creatives who wanted to do something different with their craft. I think there's something positive about *the way* they fell apart, honestly. Other than Hodgy's brief fall out with Tyler (which just kind of faded away on its own), there wasn't anything really explosive about it. I still don’t understand why Hodgy wasn’t/couldn’t as big as Earl at least. He had the look, personality, style, and was positioned as Tyler’s right hand man when Earl went away. Was he the most supreme lyricist? No, but his work ethic (he had the most material and features out of the crew) along with him getting all his beats from Left Brain made him have a unique sound, which no one, not even dudes in OF had. It’s very clear that once Earl came home all the promo and attention went towards him which makes sense but I still feel like Hodgy could’ve been more. I mean do I see him being the superstar that Tyler is or the undergoing legend that Earl has shaped into? No, but I defiantly feel like he could’ve occupied that middle of the road lane like Vince Staples does now.

using Odd Future as a "case study" what would be your overall takeaway about them and your views on collectives overall?
Do you think they're usually doomed from the start?
Do you think that managers (like Chris Clancy) pick a favorite member knowing that he has the most market value and probability of being a star? (In this case: Tyler). Which results in more time & resources being put into him?

I was only 13 when I discovered OF. I was totally floored. I'll keep it a buck tho, I had been through a lot by this point (including SA) and I adored Tyler and OF's music because I was an angry, hurt little edgelord who wanted to rip shit up. I never read Tyler's lyrics as problematic or malicious, because I held deep resentment towards what my little brain understood as "the mainstream". I admired him for being such a goon while being so visible, and I also leaned into my darker inclinations in my own art. With that being said, the timeline of my growth as a person weirdly aligns with T's growth as an artist, and I've only fallen in love with his art more and more as time passes by. I don't listen to old Tyler or OF anymore, but that time of my life will always have such a soft spot in my heart and I will always be grateful for what their work gave me at that time.

OF was only a vehicle that was meant to help Tyler become a superstar. He wasn't capable of doing it by himself.
The kind of antics he pulled are super appealing when done by a collective than an individual. Kinda like how a choreography always looks better with backup dancers than without, in many cases.
He was always the one. And his rise is the true testament to the fact that in many groups, there's usually one star, and you can't make everyone else (if you're the star) be like you no matter what you do. I think Snoop told A$AP Rocky that in the conversation/interview, when he talked about the "closing the gap" idea.
