I am an Asian and American citizen. At the school I go to there is diversity but there also is segregation amongst groups. But just because you different doesn’t mean you are tied to a specific alliance or group or team.

Quarter mixed people face a similar struggle, my grandfather came from the Phillipines and gained his citizenship through service in the US Navy. I grew up eating American food and Filipino food and (through Facebook) I’m still connected to my family in the Phillipines. If I pick “mixed” on a checkbox I feel like a fake, I feel forced into picking “white” despite feeling no connection to my ethnic heritage there, all my white family just calls themselves “Americans”, no German pride or Lithuanian pride or anything like that. The only culture other than American culture I know is Filipino culture. If you would ask me I would say I identify as American, I’m a mixed up mutt of different cultures who is proud to be surrounded by other mixed up mutts, but that isn’t an option for most things requiring an ethnicity.
