    The path being the middle way, it is interesting to look at history and religion itself needing to course correct, both on the macro and micro level..... And maybe it is because a piece of humanity is always battling against the total surrender that is asked of us from Allah, so that it becomes this "too many rules" or "not enough rules", etc. We warp one way, then the other...until we finally perhaps choose to bow in the center of the Light.

    I like Sh. Hamza Yusuf , he is a sincere fellow ; its erudition in arabic language and islamic tradition is based on solid knowledge. However, honesty compels me to say that his thoughts about Rabelais betrays quite a serious misunderstanding of the latter. Alister Crowley is in no way a "trickle down effect" of thelema's rabelaisian myth. Crowley's thelema is a kind of sadian madhouse. Rabelais is in no case involved in such a thing. In a previous talk somewhere, we can hear Shaykh Hamza blaming Albert Camus as a "nihilist thinker", falsely claiming that Camus commited suicide. As a mattrer of fact, Camus died in a car accident. And again, HY misread Camus : this one did not advocate nihilism. In fact, it's the opposite. For Camus, nihilism is a puzzling sign of time, and the task of serious thinking is to find a way out of that state. I'm French, and the way HY tends to despise French philosophers (as he's name dropping them with morgue; Foucault, Derrida, Rousseau...) amazes me. It's obvious that he didn't read nor study any of them. (What he says about Rousseau is distressing).
    Thelema Abbey is a place - which is nowhere to be found - that is to say : an u-topia - where law cease to be necessary as a ruling factor, since this very place ends a spiritual journey (an initiatic path - a real Odissey) during which the residents have gained enough light to be free and purely educated and ethical. Rabelais is a giant.

    • @mtom2237
      @mtom2237 Рік тому

      On the other hand, Camus focused most of his philosophy around existential questions. The absurdity of life, the inevitable ending (death) is highlighted in his acts. His belief was that the absurd-life being void of meaning, or man's inability to know that meaning if it were to exist-was something that man should embrace. His anti-Christianity, his commitment to individual moral freedom and responsibility are only a few of the similarities with other existential writers.[84] More importantly, Camus addressed one of the fundamental questions of existentialism: the problem of suicide. He wrote: "There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide."[85] Camus viewed the question of suicide as arising naturally as a solution to the absurdity of life.[47]

    Good show; Trueman attack in Wordsworth is over the top. The shows a divine structure to the world. Give me a break. Certainly, other romantics lead a path away from a lose of values. Everyone learns from pattern they are exposed to. Instinct is not the correct term. Books are not the only method to distribute the concept of cause and effect. Sequential translation into language then to writing and back by the reader in a loop over and over. This is academia, which defines ths as the only way and declares any other mode of transmission is for the "masses." Hamza Yusuf has so very good comments
