put gauges on as a last resort. check temperature drop across evaporator coil. if it is good leave gauges in truck. a lot of leaks at service port from jacking around with gauges, leave well enough alone

For the cutout holes with the wires, plumber's putty solved my issues. And it can be easily removed.
