I live on St Pete Beach and despite your inference am not rich. In fact St Pete Beach was a reasonable place to live cost wise until about ten years ago when everyone discovered it and the housing prices went through the roof seemingly overnight. I, like you, also had an opportunity to speak with the Sheriffs department regarding the guy (approximately 8:30 in the video) with the trailer. Here is the real story. They stopped him for: 1.) No license plates on the trailer 2.) No lights (brake, turn signal, running) on the trailer 3.) The trailer was home made and did not contain a VIN which is required by state law. 4.) No safety chain in case the trailer hitch failed. 5.) Load was not secured. 6.) Load was higher than allowed per state law. 7.) Trailer was unbalanced and deemed by anyone with common sense to be unsafe. In addition despite what you might think the individual was stopped because some of the items were believed to have been stolen and they were detaining this idiot while waiting for the owner(s) to claim it before arresting the guy for looting. There were several other items in his possession that were probably stolen as well that they did not have a formal report on. They were also looking to impound the truck as it was used in the commission of a felony. Looting is a felony in the state of Florida. Which brings me to my final point.....Looting is a huge issue right now. Thieves are all over the beach communities stealing anything that is not bolted down. My neighbors have lost power tools, garden hoses, a pressure washer, and even items stolen from their cars. The Pinellas County Sheriffs are doing a phenomenal job trying to keep it from getting totally out of control. We have enough problems right now. Consider that all of those mattresses you saw stacked in the streets are from people who for the most part are sleeping somewhere else possibly on the wet ground. Please stay away!

That front porch used to be screened in with a wooden bench swing hanging from the left side and the door and steps on the right hand side. Cynthia, our landlady and friend lived in the house behind us on the same property. She gave my brother and I a quarter to bring her her newspaper in the morning, and shared her coffee ice cream with me. On either side of us were the Lenares and Joe & Grace…and in the white two story house lived Amy, Marci, and Lisa. Mary’s Pier was Hubbard’s Dock back then. My grandmother and grandfather and all of their friends used to sit out on that sidewalk in their aluminum frame folding lawn chairs at night enjoying good conversation and the cool Gulf breezes. Joe and Grace gave huge parties in their backyard serving homemade authentic Spanish food. Mangi taught my brother and I how to cane pole fish off the dock at the end of our street (11th Avenue). Back then it wasn’t as built up as it is now. It was quaint and special. My Uncle Bill sang at the Seahorse Restaurant, and the “Hurricane” restaurant was tiny and only one story; a little shack with “The best burgers on the beach”. ❤😢
That dock you walked out on was the dock I mentioned. I still live in Florida in South Tampa now. We still go and eat at the Seahorse and pass by our old house.

Most of these homes are on islands, fairly well off areas. Living near the beach is a luxury. If i see a go fund me worth supporting i will let you know. We got another storm coming the communities further inland are poorer and this storm definitely will affect them more.

St Petersburg beach is built on a sandbar which is in the ocean not next to the ocean, and the water is supposed to be there. They want to use the word barrier Island but a barrier island is a sandbar. If you're going to build buildings and live on a sandbar in the ocean, make sure everything is made out of concrete and stainless steel, elevate all roads and structures at least 25 ft above the high-water mark. All this destruction can be avoided with proper engineering.
I wouldn't go swimming in the gulf for a long time, especially without foot protection! When the storm surge receded it dragged all sorts of debris back into the gulf. That sharp debris could cut you up badly. Going swimming in the gulf right now could result in a tetanus shot, and a trip to the hospital to get stitches if you get a nasty cut in the water!
I can imagine family conversations right about now in Florida: "Honey, i'm just about fed up with this crap, I think we should move somewhere further inland from the ocean"
I’ve never had $$ to live right next to the ocean, lakes, beaches, rivers. And I’ve never had a flooded home or car. I’ve lived simply and responsibly. I’ve never caused any reason to make taxpayers rebuild my home. I do feel with all my heart to people that suffer through tornadoes through no fault of their own.😢
I've lived on those beaches and it's a simple, happy life. Had 1 storm surge. Insurance paid for it. What this community is going through is heartbreaking.

I was in the middle of the state at the time. My husband and I made the decision to leave in 2017 because of the warming of the planet, and the increased threats for more destructive hurricanes. Not sure I understand your comment. Hurricanes move large amounts of water to areas of drought and can be good. But it's really the steering winds that cause the damage because they push the storms over land.

I'm in Tampa, but not on the ocean but in Zone A. House is ok. Nothing fancy. Would you advise staying put, evacuating, or going to a shelter?

My parents used to have a summer home in St Pete Beach. The odds are is going to hit pretty good over in that area
