The thing is, it _doesn't_ have to be discussed. It's something that some extreme activist on Twitter said, once...and then people like Peterson ran with it, and never shut up about it, as though it's some huge deal that every liberal is teaching their kids. The only reason anyone has heard that there are people with this opinion is because people like Peterson comb through Twitter looking for things that are woke that they can be outraged about. This is why people like him and the other anti-SJWs are hard to take seriously. They are just selling a slightly different kind of performative outrage from the kind the SJWs specialise in. It's the same kind of bullshit grievance mongering as some SJW pretending to be outraged about Darwin calling black people 'savages', only it's packaged differently, and sold to conservatives instead of lefties.

I am a seventy year old man. I feel no ill will towards gay men or women or bisexual or transgender people. I understand that " differing from the norm " has been historically difficult. I recall my first transgender person. I saw Christine Jorgensen on a TV show in the early sixties. I thought it was strange but it didn't impact my life. As I matured, I became aware of the concepts of homosexuality and lesbianism through life experiences. Nowadays, these and other proclivities have adopted a strident tone, demanding acceptance and attacking any who disagree. Isn't labeling someone as a bigot because they would prefer not to date a transgender person a dangerous prejudice?
Totally agree. Some like small women and some like them with long hair, large bottoms etc… not all women exhibit the same attributes and qualities. We don’t have to justify what external attributes we feel drawn to. At least, I don’t feel I have to. Freedom of choose what sex we define ourselves by is ok, freedom to choose who we feel attracted to is fundamental even if there is probably no such thing as independence of choice, as long as we do not look down or humiliate anyone, our freedom of choice does not have to be questioned. That’s my view and I rally don’t care about how it will be judged.
“There’s a big difference between prejudice and discrimination” The word they were both looking for was discernment. Discernment allows you to make a judgment without being judgmental.

On another note, it usually pays to be kind, so at least try. - I enjoy Jordans lectures, even if I don't necessarily agree with all of them.

Prejudice doesn't necessarily mean 'hate', it just means that you've prejudged. Peterson should have used the term 'bias' because it is more clear. An example of prejudice: When I see a car driving slowly in front of me and wavering somewhat, I tend to prejudge that there is an elderly driver. Many times when I finally pass the car I see that I am correct, which reinforces that prejudice, but every once in awhile it is a new driver, or perhaps an inebriated driver, or perhaps just an XX. (My wife figures out the poor female drivers more often than me; it's a driving game that she often wins)
Wow how true: "You can't have preferences without having prejudices." Now that's a strong postulation that could lead into a contentious philosophical debate.
The quote is a non sequitur. There’s no logical relation between preference and prejudice. I suspect however that, rather than “prejudice”, what they were really referring to was something more along the lines of “bias” which does arguably have a logical relation to “preference”.

I’m trans but I gotta agree here. Almost forcing someone to date you is disgusting behavior. I’ve been rejected a few times in my life and I learned to just respect someone’s preferences. Everyone is different and no one is going to change how they are just because you want to date them. Just move on to the next person as 7 billion of them live here
A guy I was dating told me he had previously dated a trans woman. He refused to tell me if she was post op or preop…not that it mattered to me. I am not homophobic or transphobic but he couldn’t wrap his mind around me not wanting to date him( a man that has sex with a man). It just is not my preference. I want a heterosexual man. Simple.
There also medical reality to this. The CDC says that bisexual and gay men have higher incidents of STIs and HIV due to the riskier kind of sex. Women (human adult females) can easily get infected due to their genitalia being more vunerable. Why would any straight woman want to be expose to that type of risk?
I literally just came across a video where the men in the comments said they liked both trans and natural born women. They considered themselves straight 😂 it’s so scary and sad because like you I’d NEVER date a man that date trans women

As Joe is someone engaged in combat sports, I expected him to also to use the weight classes argument in MMAs or Boxing. I mean when men fight men, they were mindful not to engage men of vast difference in weight as it’s also unfair for a lightweight to flight a heavyweight. So if we go to this much differentiation within the same gender, how can we simply ignore the role of growing up with Testosterone in shaping the body. Weight transition is possible however like the case of Manny Pacquiao who competed and won in 8 different weight classes (thanks Wikipedia :D)
Hugh Ropp someone like Brock Lesnar going up against anyone under his weight class is entirely mismatched, size and weight are two of the biggest factors in a fight
@Hugh Ropp So you're saying the bigger man wins most of the time? Dude there is a reason combat sports have weight classes. If Lesnar were to fight Mighty Mouse (arguably one of the best MMA fighters of all time), who would win? Lesnar would thrash him with one arm behind his back.
You are 100% correct. Not only this, but men also train against men, who go hard with each other. Odds are, if you are a women, while training, you likely don't get pressed as hard because nobody wants to be the guy picking on a girl, and maybe the men let you win because nobody wants to be the dick bullying the girl. So even with biological differences aside, in a male dominated sport, such as mma, women would have a hard time keeping up just because of how the gender roles are defined within the sport.
@Hugh Ropp ohhhhh sorry I didn't know you were clinically an idiot, my bad! You're talking about super small percentages. Sure, I could beat Jon Jones. That one time out of 10 milion because he made a mistake. It's not the norm. If you have 2 virtually identical fighters weighing 200lb and 175lbs, the bigger guy will have an advantage advantage, you literally can't argue that. I'm not even going to get into the woman vs men thing because it's already been biologically disproven.
Having an understanding of the word Phobia is a marvellous thing to have. I do not like onions, i am not a fan of them. I choose not to consume them due to that dislike. I do not have a phobia of them, they are simply not to my taste. I chose to ignore them and would be angry if somebody tried to force them on me. I am not transphobic because i do not fear transgender people. Irrationally or rationally. I just do not care about them and will not be forced to do so. Arachnaphobia is real. A fear of something you could kill in a second is irrational. A lot of the people shouting about transphobia have an irrational fear of REALITY.
The trans community has found a way to change vocabulary to suit their needs and manipulate others into believing everything they say and do. For instance, gender identity disorder was changed to gender dysphoria instead because of the stigma associated with the word disorder. It's just silly. I have no problem with people being free and choosing to do whatever they want as long as no harm comes to others. I do have a problem with delusional thinking affecting society and culture. It makes no sense. Not all trans people are like this but it seems a good majority are. It is probably due to the scientifically proven higher rate of personal disorders in the trans community.
So we finally achieved acceptance of the LGBT community, to some extent, where the argument was one shouldn't shame another based on their sexuality. And now, shaming a man for being heterosexual is ok? Nope. Sorry but if I dated a guy who turned around a few months down the track and said oh by the way, I have a vagina, I'd be gone and pretty annoyed. There is no need to deceive people in this day and age. I have two kids, and I know single mothers who deliberately hide that fact from men out of selfishness to try and get him emotionally attached and less likely to reject them. I mean, do you want to have that moment where he feels lied to and ultimately leaves anyway because he ain't about that life? I sure don't. I've always told them from the jump and if they decline I completely get it, some men can't handle it and there's nothing wrong with them for feeling that way. If everyone has the right to choose who they are intimate with, then everyone has the right to make an INFORMED choice on who they are intimate with.
Ya, that is pathetic, I believe that is cruel to hide your kids from a potential partner. I would think that impacts the kids, what if they found that out

There is no need to tell them until you want to proceed with a committed relationship. You have no idea how dangerous the world is for women and children without protection.
We have all become so obsessed with offending someone for something, the fact we still have to argue about our own morality takes the fact of our personal choices away from us. To be told we are bigoted about our sexual preferences is as big a discrimination as choosing not to have that discussion.
I’m a female but why would a man want to date/marry a trans gender if he wants kids and his preference isn’t to adopt? So basically a transgender person can call you a bigot for going against you’re own personal preferences and desires, in your own life but they are free to do what they want in their own life, to their own desires and preferences freely without prejudice.

This is exactly the point I've always seen as the reductio ad absurdum in terms of transgendering. A long as trans people keep the "trans" terminology when referring to themselves as a man or woman or whatever, I couldn't care less what they call themselves. Their lifestyle is their choice. I don't think anyone should mock or belittle them for it. But just as they ask us to respect their lifestyle choices, there has to be quid pro quo, i.e. respect the lifestyle choices and preferences of those who aren't looking for that in their intimate relationships. It's annoying when I have to be extra critical of the pics on a dating profile and realize something's not quite right, then scroll down to where they finally admit to being trans. That should have been honestly stated in the gender field initially. To be fair, that doesn't come up often, and most profiles of trans people I've seen do own up to it up front, but not all. And the fact that this has happened at all is exactly the issue. I remember some years ago having a conversation on this topic with a very Liberal woman friend, and she scorned me saying that trans people know better than to open themselves to that kind of situation and that it's just a homophobic myth that a trans woman would ever do otherwise than to mention that up front. I didn't feel like it was worth arguing, so agreed to disagree. Now I've seen it show up myself. It was eventually mentioned in their profile, but not in the initial gender field where it should have been. And the apps don't offer a preference to only show sys hetero profiles. I'm given a preference to only show women, I'm allowed to prefer a certain level of athleticism, of similar interests, etc. And the apps will try to show matches of those preferences, but not this one?

I dont even think many of the world class female mma fighters could beat (well maybe they could outpoint me using quick movement) and I basically sucked and just did it for fun. well maybe somebody like cris cyborg, amanda nunes or gabi garcia could take me down and destroy my ego. point is, there is reason why men fight men and women fight women.

The alternative is to just let everyone compete against each other. And women lose once again. There would be maybe 1 woman in each of the sport leagues and she will be low in the rankings. Be great for men though, so many more opportunities if their gender didn't prevent them from competing.

Hugh Ropp I’m no expert. So your point is that they can eliminate the weight classes in MMA and Boxing? a relic of the past?

Arachnaphobia is real. A fear of something you could kill in a second is irrational.

But onions have layers. Delicious layers that stink, make you cry, and turn brown when you leave them in the sun sprouting little white hairs.

It’s okay to not be attracted to a certain skin tone or other racial features on specific people.
It’s okay to not be attracted to specific hairstyles, clothing accents, heights, weight of specific people.
It’s okay to not be attracted to specific people.
It’s okay to not be attracted to people at all.
It’s not okay if the reason behind these things are hateful. But it’s tolerable. It’s not tolerable if this is expressed in a harmful way that, instead of staying inside your head, comes out to effect others negatively.
Otherwise, no one tells you what you can and can’t like by nature. And not being attracted to something isn’t inherently out of general dislike for that type of person in a grand prejudice or hateful way.

"Everything isn't the same about everything all the time."
