it's worth noting that if your "control" device does not use much power, the "switched" outlets may not power on. Change your 'threshold' to a lower setting so the powerstrip can detect your control device.

For anyone wondering, when you have your tv or pc plug in to the “control slot”, your threshold (if you have this same brand) has to be either Medium or Low for the green outlets to turn on
for anybody in a rush just trying to get the switch part on, just plug something into the control socket. if it’s a computer, do the computer into the control, the control is what turns the switch on
Trickle star is geared more to the family who doesn’t mind wasting power. My purpose is to cutoff any electrical load not being used. My tv in standby uses 13 watts. On a regular power strip that would be 0 watts. On the trickle star that would be burning 13 watts 24/7. In the control switch you have to give it power to turn on your other switches so that means leaving the tv on burning 13 watts at all time. This will waste power for me.
Firesticks/ FireTV won't work in the switched outlet it has to be in always on, mine reset and wiped my firestick are putting it in switched. That sucked so remember they have limited on hands experience you have to play with it and test it yourself
If you plug you audio equipment into this when you turn off your tv you will damage your speakers. But any other use it is a great idea, but with audio, i disagree.
Thank you so much for this tutorial... I have one of the power strips that he was using and I was so frustrated with it because I didn't know how to use it.
I hate how my parents got this but we don’t even have power bills which causes all 5 of my devices because the military didn’t care about building houses so I have like no outlets in my room
You HAVE to have something the switches on and off in the master switch to order for the teal plugs to work. A router does not work. I have nothing to place in the master switch, I don't watch much TV nor do I have a computer in my living room. Any ideas?
Is there a product that has switched outlets that are normally on??? I am a carpenter, and I have a heater in my trailer. I plug my trailer into the customer house for power, normally a 15A circuit. I have to turn the heater off if I need to keep my compressor turned on, because the two running at the same time will overload the breaker. I want a power device that will turn off the heater whenever the compressor cycles. (runs for about 30 seconds) then turn the heater back on again.
i assume this decides the threshold of power used by the control plug in order for the switched plugs to turn on. For example, high threshold means that the control plug must be using a significant amount of power for the switched plugs to turn on. Low threshold means that the control plug only needs to use a little bit of power for the switched plugs to turn on.
WARNING; don't buy one of these damn things unless it is specifically for that exact use; TV...it's a royal pita for other unrelated things that you might want to plug in that are UNrelated to the TV. how would this work if you had a motion sensor flood light plugged into the TV or computer.??? Might be another use depending on if the circuit to detect motion will not allow the unit to work.
The TV or computer would are "always-on" when plugged into the control switch. Certain advanced power strips, like this Tricklestar model, have an adjustable threshold, so you may be able to set it to ignore when the light comes on but respond when the computer is turned on. This also allows you to set the threshold for a computer to turn your peripherals off when the computer goes to sleep but isn't completely powered down.
most of these strips do not have a always on plug, my Pc setup includes always on, modem, router, weather station, DVR, switch, and only 3 devices that do not to be always on, my PC, printer and scanner
I dont have a clock or DVR for the always on, my trickle star is like this: Always On: Cable Box, Empty Control: TV Switched: PS4, Fan It's not working for me now, but it was working thr other day, but now the green light for the switched is turned off now, this is actually only confusing me more and more
That's correct. This is why it's important to always look for the ENERGY STAR certified label when buying a TV because there are standby power limits in place for both internet-connected TVs that need to respond to internet "wake" commands as well as a passive standby mode.
How about if you don't have a TV to plug in the control one? What can I put in the control plug? All I have right now is my ALL IN ONE COMPUTER and maybe some chargers!

Raul Citraro plug your pc into the controlled outlet, then plug any device that is used when the pc is on into the switch outlet (example: monitor, speakers, printer). Therefore ...when your pc is off your printer, monitor and speakers will also be off and not getting any power.
I'm %90 sure if a Console or PC is suddenly disconnected from power when it's on it's unhealthy for it so i think people like me who have multiple consoles or PCs sharing the same surge protector/Power strip it would not be a good idea to link the power source to the TV like this because out of hobbit sometimes the TV will be powered off while a console or PC is still on. Same thing goes for your pc power source being tied to it's monitor if you use a Monitor like me.

I hate how my parents got this but we don’t even have power bills which causes all 5 of my devices because the military didn’t care about building houses so I have like no outlets in my room
So I have to reset my internet Everytime I turn off the TV?
Yup, although a router doesn't draw enough power to control it. Terrible technology.
Plug internet into always on
Plug your cable box and router into the always on outlets to keep from losing settings

What about a computer, monitor, and external hard drive?
Do you want the power to be completely off to those items when you turn off the master plug? If so then yes.
You should make the computer your "control" device in this scenario.
